Sony and Verant Management: No one is going to quit the game due to these changes. They've invested too much time in their characters. Stop worrying. They'll accept the NGE.
2011
CCP Management: No one is going to quit if we move Aurum toward non-vanity purchases. Our playerbase has years invested in this game. They are not going anywhere. Stop worrying.
Disclaimer: This quote illustrates the overall perception of former Star Wars Galxies veterans who have migrated to EVE. We know our history, and any MMO company should learn from it.
That said, SOE didn't listen to us. Is CCP listening to us? Belatedly so, perhaps they are. It remains to be seen if they will take their listening skills to action.
This is why I'm worried, I've seen this before, like so many SWG veterans here.
I quit SWG after they dropped the ball on the CURB, I didn't wait around for them to try to fix things with NGE. After nearly 5 years of Eve, I still don't care nearly as much about it as I did SWG. Stop listening to your players, think you always know whats best...think we won't leave?
Going down this route would be suicide from a business perspective. As an ex-SWG vet though (master commando pre-cu). This release is no where near the game breaking and re-arranging that happened in the CU and NGE. So I'm taking a wait and see approach. Non-vanity microtransaction items though would be a deal breaker .

Dear CCP
I reactivated 2 accounts out of 3, about 2 weeks ago. in anticipation of incarna and the long promised WiS update. i also brought one vet back into the fold with his 2 accounts, and other friends with 3 accounts total, all subbed. because i always believed in the vision that was EVE and the maverick attitude of CCP with regards to avoiding the pitfalls mainstream MMOG development. i preached the gospel of EVE to my friends, spent time showing them the ropes to get them into the game the right way, to make good customers for you.
and then i get slapped across the face with this steaming pile of rotten dog turd.
if even a quarter of what was in that leeked newsletter is being seriously considered, EVE is a game dead on its feet just waiting for the finishing blow. and for what... dust514... which will require the EVE player base to provide a goal for the console players... and WoD... WTH? Twilight was last years news. no one give a flying **** about sparkly emo vampires anymore. and those that do are teenage girls too busy cutting their wrists and writing depressing poetry to play games. much less have an attention span to play a MMOG.
this leek has shed light on a cancer growing in your organization. the development philosophy of EVE is skewing into dangerously suicidal territory. a cancer that needs to be cut out if your company has any prayer of survival at this point.
you have 2 games in development, in need of funding, and your "cash cow" has been made aware of its place in the CCP scheme. i seriously question how many more canceled subscriptions CCP as a company can sustain without laying off employees or suspending development of Dust, WoD, or both to try to save the EVE "cash cow".
I, for one, am glad i reactivated with paypal with the automatic payment option turned off, i dont even have to cancel my account, just consider it closed forever if i dont hear some very good news before the next payment rolls around. depending on the devblog, i will be advising my friends to do the same. -7 more subs.
you have 1 course of action before you. dissolve the Nex shop into a group in the normal market, abandon all future MT plans, and immediately start planning the next major expansion to be either 100% pew pew content, or WiS fully implemented. anything less i fear will be too little to appease the cow.
our milk teats are shriving up from your touch CCP. change now or start updating your resumes. ::insert witty signature here:: |

Like I said, I wonÆt be able to answer all of your questions tonight, but I promise weÆll start getting some info out tomorrow. As I see it, the chief complaint is regarding the high cost of goods in the Noble Market. Second, many people are unhappy about the CaptainÆs Quarters. Third, there are some performance issues with Incarna. I would appreciate it if you would confirm my observations or tell me what IÆm missing, but I do ask that you do it in a productive way. I will remove posts without prejudice if they are counterproductive to the conversation I hope to have with you.
If youÆve read this much, thanks for staying with me. If you have something to say, IÆd like very much to hear it.
Humbly yours, ~P~
*edited to fix a "doh!" typo
Thanks for stepping in front of the firing squad, mate. First, here's what I like:
1. I like that I can see my avatars. That's sexy. That's good, I like it. Some people may disagree and say we're becoming The Space Sims, but I honestly don't care. I like it, I've been looking forward to WiS ever since it was announced several years ago. The whole thing is quite pretty. 2. The new turrets are sexy (can we do something with missile launchers too?)
Here's what I don't like:
1. This comes across as a money-grab. Plain and simple. Especially with that "newsletter" (whether or not it's the real deal). Eve should be subscription based, or MT-based. NOT both. Being that Eve has been, since its creation, a purely subscription-based service, with ALL players having the same access and ability to become the same rich *******s, I liked it that way. The difference between the billionaire in the officer fitted faction battleship and the poor n00b in an Impairor was "time". The n00b could one day be that same *******.
2. It's creeping Eve in a direction that I think the vast majority of players are angry to see it go, justifiably so.
3. Yes, the items are damned expensive and EXTREMELY limited. I understand there's a number of graphical bugs to work out (my favorite was the Panty-Peeler bug I found on SiSi). Maybe it shouldn't have been released just yet.
4. Hardware/software issues. I've got an Nvidia graphics card that's only 6 months old, and CQ is causing this computer to do sudden heat-related shutdowns. There's something wrong there.
So now here are my questions:
1. How far is CCP planning on taking this, with RMT? If it's just vanity stuff, that MIGHT be okay (though I'm annoyed at the prices. I mean really, 30$ for a skirt and boots), but is this going to eventually migrate to game-affecting items (ie better ammunition, better ships, etc)?
2. If CCP is moving more toward RMT, will subscription fees be going DOWN?
I won't ask about hardware/software issues, as CCP has always been pretty good about fixing physical stuff. Anyhow, thanks for stepping out there and trying to address concerns. Glad to see a CCP response to this!

I'll be quick.
1. A debate must have 2 sides so I do not look too harshly on CCP Soundwave's MT position. That said there is one standout issue. "Right now, you can store 50 personal fittings on our servers." and "Why not add more storage space for a small amount of money?". We had the ability to store more fittings just a few months ago. Taking something away and then selling it back to the player base as a MT is unacceptable.
2. MT for Standings, ships, ammo, guns and/or character attribute/skill enhancements is also unacceptable. DUST 514 is being build as a MT based game, it is fine to do that there. Eve is a subscription based game, do not ever introduce anything that is more then eye candy as a MT.
3. The prices of goods on the Noble Exchange are nothing more then laughable. There is no defense here. At the rate your going a ship paint job is looking to be about the cost of a Titan. The real world monetary equivalent is joke and make CCP a laughing stock of the gaming industry. By the way, the ISK value is also insane. A pair of pants for the cost of a Command Ship or a monocle for the cost of a Dread? Most important thing is that your killing your potential new subs because of word of mouth and news reports of inane MT costs.
4. A point that is missed with all of the MT conversation. I was speaking with someone last night and they bought it up. A subscription is automatic. You don't think about it, it just goes on your credit card. A MT is an active choice. When you introduce a MT that becomes a "must have" for game play then the player has to make an active decision to buy. That means they have the option to make the active decision to not buy. If the choice of not making the purchase means they will lose out to people who do, that choice to not buy the MT leads to the inevitable choice of them canceling their account. Fewer players, lower income.
5. Need to be able to opt out of CQ and have the old hanger back.
Everything else has been already covered in great depth so no need to do so again.
In the end, Incarna can be summed up as an expansion that makes Eve less then it was and is leading us to a future that no one wants.

And also, for some reason, take hideously long to load when viewing them as icons in the hangar.

You can say whatever you wish now but when Dust bombs you WILL do what the newsletter discussed. You intend doing it for Dust and WoD anyway and Eve will be no different.

This entire thread is mostly an atrocity. You're complaining to regular human beings, not gods, and demanding that they give you what you want or you'll stamp and shake your fists until you finally cancel your subscription.
There are good points. But most of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

i get a strange feeling here. You make a "new" thread, apologize for not answering (not because of how disrespectful you where in the newsletter), and now...you can't answer our questions anyways.
In the meantime, everyone posts here, and the thread with the newsletter-link will be ignored. Everything was already written in there. Interesting, if that was your goal, you did well. Maybe your forum-fu is stronger then we think.

Not that i care, nor that i think that you actually will read this post... last i spoke with a GM he told me to "close the accounts if i am unhappy". Eve will not change for the players, no matter what you say. Eve is changing only in one direction : to force the players to spend more.
My first account will expire Jul 11, all 9 of them by Aug 14.

CCP has dumped a ton of money into two other projects DUST and WoD.
To pay for these they want to do it on the backs of the EvE player base. They pretty much said just that in the PDF.
They sent resources into these other games. Games we as EvE players are funding to get made. While in the Leaked PDF they act as if we are Freeloaders. When it is in fact the so called Freeloaders that pay the bills for them.
I cant help but feel that they see us as serfs to be exploited and not customers. Heck for a while now its felt like that are completely and dangerously out of touch with the customers and playerbase.
Why are you slitting the throat of your so called "golden goose".

ok 2 quick points before i call it a night before work: 1) if this is what you think the problem is there are currently 65+ pages of ppl telling you to go die in a fire due to the fact that you added MT's and all you see are the 2 pages of ppl complainging about prices, you're an idiot 2) go ahead censor this thread, you think its bad now just wait till you actually try and make ppl stop telling you how much they hate your latest failure, the last time you tried to gag a thread like this it wound up on 1 ezine for gamers, given the level of pure hated evidenced by this thread you can probly bet on every gaming ezine, magazine and website ppl can email will know about this 5 mins after you start censoring things, so yeah good luck with that threat bro, cuase if you're dumb enough to follow through on it, this **** storm may quite possibly get even more unpleasant for you then it already is and thats saying something.

Pretty much this. I'm not going to make a long-winded post expressing my feelings, since I've done that before about this issue and it clearly doesn't mean a thing to CCP. I'll just not renew my subs until MT for anything but vanity items is dead and buried as an option.
