CCP Pann,
First off I would like to say that I feel sorry for you. You were the sacrificial lamb thrown to the slaughter. Those above you hoped that your skills in communication would defuse the situation, or at least buy them some time to think, they were wrong.
Now on to the issue at hand. There are several of us that have been around for a very long time. While this account, nor my other have been around EVE as long as I have, I promise you I remember tougher days for players. I remember EVE: Armageddon, the fact that we had to uninstall the client every time you patched during beta. I remember the release of battleships and so on. I have left and come back to Eve several times, however with this latest meltdown, I'm afraid I may never come back.
The issue isn't the outrageous cost of Nex items, or even to a large part the performance issues. It's the fact that we have been lied to for apparently years now. We have been promised on multiple occasions that MT would never come to eve. I personally remember "Unholy Rage" being a big deal. Now it seems that CCP and its executives have decided to simply put the RMT sellers out of business by taking their place. MT is not acceptable in a game like eve. Eve is about conflict in a sand box. Eve is a place where people get by with their wits and skills, and with the introduction of MT, even for "vanity" items that will no longer be the case. As seen from the leaked "fearless" document; our fears of P2W were well founded. It seems that had been the plan all along.
Does anyone remember what caused the CSM to come into existence? I do. It was a direct result of one developer giving an unfair in game advantage to a single alliance. Btw Pann, what happened to t20?
The simple fact of the matter is that CCP has proven time and again that they cannot be trusted. This is especially bad when they publish a game that has a major currency in trust. Does anyone in their corp give BPO access to new members? Only the dumb do. However CCP doesn't seem to understand that we want to be able to trust them, and they keep proving we can't.
The issue they sent you to deal with is one that you simply can't. You cannot make us trust them, they have to earn that trust. This is going to be exceptionally difficult given their own words in "fearless".
We want answers, but not from you. We want heads to roll, but not yours. We want an honest and open discussion with those that would ruin OUR game. Can you deliver that message for us?

The biggest problem with non-vanity items is simple.
We play the game to avoid real life hassles and money!!!! If you introduce RL into a game economy, you will lose everyone that can't afford to keep up!

You can't do a Pay to Win model on top of a subscription based Pay to Play model.
People accept Pay to Win models for games that don't have other means of paying the bills, because people understand that the server bills and development costs need to be paid.
People accept PLEX because blackmarket RMT exists and can't be directly stamped out. PLEX at least manage this problem. People understand that setting up a system for paying someone who actually plays the game $15 for some isk is by far a lesser evil than having that $15 go towards encouraging hackers and bots.
People accept paying a monthly subscription fee to play a game because they understand MMOs have new content and that running the servers isn't free.
EVE likes to talk about their free expansions, but the fact of the matter is that most other MMOs do free expansions all the time. WoW is putting out a free expansion next week, and they do so about as often as EVE releases expansions.
CCP is getting compensated for their work.
CCP needs to stop trying to cook up ways to get paid twice. Right now CCP isn't even delivering the new content that would justify their being paid the first time. |

Well never thought this would be my first real post after almost 5 years of reading these forums.
From: Warp to Zero to Microtransactions
It's easy to look back now and see the progression of greed. We sneered at the "bitter vets" rage quitting over the softening of EVE. "adapt or die" we told them followed with "Can I have your stuff". When to many cried we got the C.S.M. and when that didn't work we got "H.T.F.U.". Now just lies, disrespect, and greed.
I'm not raging mad, probably should be, mostly sad and disappointed. I was looking forward to Incarna (still am) but microtransactions is a deal breaker. I'll see what you have to say tomarrow before my three accounts go.

I smellà free subscriptions. You know, that thing that happens when a company thinks it can win more customers without a subscription fee but rather charge for "upgrade" items than to just make a solid, fun game.

Although I'm already gone from the game I thought I'd post one last time. (Encore)
Invitation
It is very obvious where CCP's loyalties are right now, there's no way to deny it anymore considering the way the game has (de)evolved since Dominion.
Now, to anyone reading this, unless you are plexed into oblivion I suggest you cancel your account if you haven't already. As some troll mentioned earlier reactivating is easy, so if CCP sees the light again (don't hold your breath please) in the course of the next couple of months you can always come back.
But for now the best way to pressure them to answer to our demands and make the changes needed is hitting them where they hurt the most: Their wallets.
No matter how well seated the higher ups are, if their stupid decisions start costing the company enough money heads will roll. And they will be more than happy to display them on the central plaza in Jita for all the Capsuleers to see. In an attempt to gain our money back of course.
We've been through this crap many times before with crappy corporations, gankings and just good old lulz. So, if you think they are underestimating you I invite you to show them what a (very legal) players' wardec can do to their company. And don't forget to leave them a nice farewell message on the comments/feedback section while cancelling.
And add 2 cancelled accounts (plus another 2 I didn't reactivate due to recent events) to the list should you happen to be counting them. Benri out. __________

CCP,
You have broken my heart. I trusted you to deliver on your promises, but instead it feels like you have cheated and lied to me. Micro transactions damage, cheapen, and ruin games. I was willing to tolerate the [A] you told me I was getting, but then you sprung on me [B][C][D] and {E]. We where offered incarna, told that our expansion would come, we would walk in our captain quarters and experience a new level of immersion. However you decided to not finish our CQ, leaving us with one race (massively breaking immersion) just so had dev time for MT, a feature we didn't want. Hold a poll, just ask the people here. You will find the vast majority desired the CQ they where promised over MT. We are your customers, your partners in the company, a stake holder if you will. Don't hurt us and expect us to stick around.
You let me down

So this.
Originally by: Jade Constantine Sure when you have been playing Eve as long as we have you learn to take the rough with the smooth but you do so with the general feeling that CCP developers understand and ôgetö what makes Eve great û and thatÆs the problem now. This internal newsletter (if real) shows that one of the leading developers does not ôget eveö does not care about eve, and simply sees eve as a cash cow to be milked ferociously to fund other projects. This is about keeping the golden goose of eve subscriptions (on a drip feed if necessary) while chasing and grubbing every little loose cent he can from the player base.
Let me give you a couple of examples of how this can and does (and has already) impacted our enjoyment of this game:
1. The Captains Quarters û itÆs not gameplay its a display cabinet for vanity items. And the price of this display cabinet for you and I is that multi-client performance in stations is now terrible û if you have a bad graphic card itÆs a jerk fest û if you have a decent graphics card itÆs heat-fest. I can run 3-4 clients with CQÆs turned on û I can run it smoothly û but do I want to? Hell no because my Gtx 580 sounds like its melting my motherboard now! So I need to turn off the CQÆs on multiple accounts and as a result have more limited functionality on those accounts and an ugly wallpaper. No more station environment, no more clicking on my ship to open cargo hold, no more dragging ship to the hanger to board it. The delivery of the CQ vanity item display case has impacted my gameplay.
CCP could have made it optional and given us the option of keeping the old hanger view and added a ôdisembark shipö option to the UI but ôoh noö to do that would have meant we werenÆt being forced to look the vanity display case that marketing insisted must be front and centre if weÆre to even think about buying these ridiculously overpriced items from the Noble store.
2. If you read the newsletter youÆll see reference to saved fitting slots û and I donÆt know about you Verone but in JF weÆve run out of saved corp ship fittings. We want CCP to up the limit but is that really going to happen while the ôbiz-devsö talk honeyed words about how to squeeze extra income from players for such ôminor upgrades.ö? How long till we pay aurum for extra corp standing slots? For wardec options? For a usable corp management screen?
3. And who develops these vanity items? Yes thats right its Eve artists and developers whose salary we pay with our subscriptions. Given the choice wouldnÆt you rather have engine trails and flashy cyno effect for all players rather than a bunch of overpriced tat in the Aur store for a fleeced few?
Because that is precisely the compromise being made here -> CCP using our subs money to pay for vanity item production they want to sell back to us for greedy prices and it is something you SHOULD get mad about.
So hereÆs the thing.
The time to fight for the game we love is not in six months time when these concepts have bedded down and CCP is feeling bold enough to start selling Noble Faction ammo and +9 implants. The time to fight is now. Because this newsletter embodies everything that many of us feared but didnÆt want to believe CCP were becoming capable of. It is a massive betrayal of the compact we shared as players and developers of this game and indicates that CCP is preparing to leap down a very dark and deep path of self-immolation in the months to come.
I donÆt want to see Eve Online die Verone. That sounds dramatic I know, but gameworlds die when the dreams and visions are extinguished and that can happen through a succession of bad ideas foisted on a community by people who really donÆt have much of a clue in business.

Its the "messing with internet space ship"
You can do what you want with incarna, you can sell what items you want for real money.
But don't expect to change the spaceships, the way to fly spaceship, they way to get skills to fly the spaceships, the way to make spaceships, its ammo, its mods and NOT expect a reaction.
For years "WE WILL NEVER MT INTERNET SPACESHIP!" - CCP Now CCP Newsletter "HOW ABOUT WE MT INTERNET SPACESHIPS?" - CCP Fearless
If incarna makes internet spaceships slow (overheating etc). I IS GOING TO *****.
But I ***** for you to sort the problem.. and quickly. So I can continue paying my 150 bucks a month. But doing nothing leads me to the first "cancel" - IF I COULD HAVE FOUND THE RUDDY THING!

Originally by: Voltaire Leriel Though the content of this memo is rather disturbing, the most shocking thing for me is the tone of it.
It's extremely patronizing. Does CCP really see us as some kind of untapped cash reservoir that they need to exploit at all costs?
Are we just sheep with wallets, morons waiting to be duped out of our hard-earned cash for a piece of virtual cloth that costs as much or more than a real piece of cloth?
I think they severely underestimate the intelligence level of their playerbase, just how stupid do they think we are?
I've been getting a bad feeling about CCP for a while now... Every time I see a dev on the alliance tourney panel who doesn't know EVE from a hole in the ground.
I used to look up to CCP as one of the warmer and more understanding companies in the game industry. But I have lost a lot of respect for it today.
You guys don't know your game anymore, you don't play it anymore, you don't know your playerbase and you certainly don't know me or why I like or play this game, even though you have met me at several FanFests.
I have played since beta, I've never unsubbed my account, and I feel substantially betrayed.
CCP sums up it's subscribers wants/concerns with :lolcustomers: or :playersdontdodesign: internally, should be no surprise at this point.

Kinda like, every major eve **** up since t20.
This isnt going to change, the desire to milk more and more money from the cow that is eve, will remain.
Theyll just create some new BS story, IA, IA for IA, or CSM, implimented poorly and fobbed off to us as a solution.
By all means, make our voices heard about this new state of BS eve has rolled into, however, its not going to change the fact, CCP care more about your money, than your gaming experience. History shows this, the future will too.
Its a shame. My passion with eve was started due to watching a mutual passion displayed by the developers.
But all I see these days is a passion for cash and status.
This will have a lasting effect.
Instead of free advertising of "EVE has walking in stations in its latest free expansion".
Readers are now seeing "$70 for a space sim monacle".
Like the t20 incident did? That story got out, infact it got so far out, when I walked into a supermarket, in New Zealand wearing a guristas tshirt, the checkout operator said "Oh thats that game with the cheating devs isnt it"
But people forget, CCP know this, and plays off it.
This event, in time, will be forgotten, like every other major dramabomb.

Edited by: Weeble Tauri on 24/06/2011 07:45:56 I tried looking through this thread, but seeing how a CCP employ was only responding every 10 pages or so, that's asking a lot.
I have 2 accounts that are active until mid August. CCP has until then to straighten up their act and at least give the inkling they will fix glaring problems.
When I leave I'm willing to guarantee 5 local corp-mates will too. We laughed at the monocle and overpriced NEX items and just shrugged it aside. However, that newsletter really rustled our jimmies. We left WoW for a reason.
Edit: CCP should take a lesson from Bungie, at least they give the fatade of being concerned with their customers. Not to mention they have to deal with far more bull**** than CCP ever will.

Well I think it's fair to say that CCP messed up; Even if you think that's just on the PR front alone (ignoring player cries of "pity us, pity the game").
Now CCP appears to be going through it's "teenage years". They are no longer small tightly knit group of people who code for fun, they have matured and grown and realised what their strengths are.
And then abused it in a typical teenage tantrum kind of thing.
Today, tomorrow perhaps, the teenager will come back with an apology (of sorts). There will be explanations, excuses, maybe the odd promise of a change of behavior. However, like most teenagers I suspect the underlying trend will continue.
And for this I am truly sorry as I liked CCP when they were younger.
Perhaps the teenager will mature even more and grow into a sensible adult (who, like most people, make the odd mistake).
I live in hope. But I don't live in game anymore.
Grow up CCP and learn from your mistakes please. We all want you to succeed but as a player base we can only do so much

This responce is on the basis that i have not read all replys but i could portion of them.
This is ultimately becoming a trust issue either the CSM was left out as saleene has stated or they were simply asleep, certainly they have not been leading the way and we could argue this has happened on their watch. But CCP who is ultimately responsible for this mess must now look for a way to build trust and turn this game around to capture its core principles. Personally I would like to see some sort of covenant defined an MOU (memorandum of understanding) if you like drawn up by the CSM (And hence its players) and CCP, that clearly lays out our core principles for eve. That both the customers and CCP can use to align their business priorities with. Perhaps we can capture for both sides what this game means and then explore the way forward. Ultimately no piece of paper will solve trust issues unless CCP wholeheartedly embrace a process that can be transparent. Lastly, I have been playing the game since 2005 I am not a bitter vet, but if the mentioned changes continue through and this whole shop business launches then I shall be a sad pod pilot.
