+1 for an alternative to creating something out of nothing.
-1 for some issues, which I will list below:
- If these were BPOs for clothing items instead of the items themselves, you run into a problem of only a small number of people have to spend the aurum and everyone gets them. This doesn't provide CCP with the user data they were hoping to generate concerning how much interest really exists for this kind of stuff, and thus an indicator of how much more dev time they would consider spending on making new items of this nature.
- These items can't really be compared to other items (ships/modules/whatever) because those items are expendable. You make an Ishtar, I buy it, pew pew in it for a while, it gets blown up and I need to buy a new one. I would never need to buy a second monocle, except possibly a different design. Once everyone who cares for a <whateveritemhere> has one, the market inflates, price goes to nothing, and really no one benefits from its existence. There would have to be some kind of minimum price set on the market for it to be worth it for you to spend the cash on the BPO.
You can technically make anything destroyable. If it's on your character it can go with your character. Not to mention if they added things like decay. Though in this game nanites solve that problem. You can make it so if items are worn and you get podded you lose it.(possibly) If not as the game expands and becomes more complex and deep you could eventually find ways to do it.(Theft. fires in stations other ilke things. the more environment the more possibilities. Obviously genericly makingin fires from a simpl random is bad. But if enough infrastructure exists it is possibly one reasonable grounds. Like cooking fires and live NPC AI. Or purposeful action. Needs proper mechanics and consideration to implement but it is possible.)
Originally by: HELLBOUNDMAN I like this suggestion, simply because it give players that don't wish to buy plexes in or out of game a chance to buy these items. It also adds another layer to the market.
The only question I have is, if they allow you to buy aurum items such as new ship colors, racing stripes, or chromed out weapons, how would this fit into your suggestion?
Would the player have to buy the item and then build the ship with that item in the materials list?
So to say if i wanted chrome weapons, would i buy the chrome from the aurum store and then build the weapon with the material added?
Or would i be allowed to just buy the chrome from the market and chrome out an already created item?
Kill two birds with one stone! BOTH. 8) One is temp(aka paint or magnetic painting.) The other is permanent and the color. Or some other things fitting the storyline. The storyline can always add proper dynamics. Or it will add them appropriately to the story/world which will give the answer.
