Wow, this is supposedly the best MMO community and this is what we have to show for ourselves.
Point #1: If I was Hilmer I would order the forums shut down until the community can get a healthy dose of perspective. The major question of "Will there be non-vanity item in the NEX store?" is not a topic of this dev blog. CCP Zulu clarified as much and still the community ignores the point of the dev blog. THIS IS A GAME!. THIS IS A HOBBY! Do you guys really like what you've turned into over a hobby? Can you really look in the mirror and be proud of raging this much over a hobby? This is how riots happen after a sporting event. How silly do these look? We have it right here.
Poing #2: A better question to be asking is acknowledging that this is not the blog with the answer to THE QUESTION and asking who is responsible for it.
Point #3: Subscribers do not write the paychecks for CCP employees. NEWSFLASH! Those checks are written by CCP incorporated. Does anyone truely know where CCP gets all of their money from? Threatening CCP employees paychecks is not only wrong but just shows immaturity.
There are ways to disagree respectfully and there are ways to look like a total jerk. I'm seeing many more jerks than people with something intelligent to say.

The main questions are unanswered. Terrible response. I expected better from you guys, really.
Are MTs going beyond vanity items or is that all? What I care is about game balance without extra money affecting it.

Wow, just wow.
I wrote a long post about what the heck is CCP doing/thinking, but really just wow.
I'm already down to just keeping training going until this account and one other cancelled account expires. I might just stop that as well. Two other accounts already cancelled based on Incarna (WoD beta) prescience.
Wow.
Sadness.

You guys don't get it. You are dancing around the 500 pound gorilla in the room. The more you try to re-frame the discussion and spin this thing or try to straw man this topic into something more favorable the more our worst fears are reinforced and the more ****ed we get.
We can tell what your plans for the future are by your actions in the present. The fact that you can not opt out of the insanely obvious marketing propaganda the CQ is and the fact that AUR is the only thing in our wallet that is bright aqua colored so as to stand out so we can't miss it tells us volumes about where your intent and focus lies. If this was truly about giving options to players and not a get rich quick scheme you would make leaving your ship optional and AUR would be the same white color as everything else in our wallet.
We don't want to pay $15 per month to be actively involved in a propaganda marketing campaign.
Cable TV started out as paying money to not have commercials. When they started putting commercials on TV I paid to watch I canceled my subscription. I used to buy DVDs when the started putting commercials on DVDs I stopped buying them. When the went from previews before the movie started in movie theaters to commercials 10 minutes after the movies was supposed to start I stopped going to movies. I want a game that is fun to play and that my $15 per month is all that is asked of me. I do not want to pay to be marketed to. You can either provide me that service or you can not.

Hey,
Thanks for the update. I don't think that the blog fully addressed what folks seem to be upset about, though. Seems to be that a mob mentality has flared up over a perceived betrayal. It won't matter what issue you choose to talk about if you don't correct the perception of betrayal. It doesn't really matter whether or not there was any intent to actually follow through on some of the different ideas presented by the different folks in the internal newsletter, the perception of serious consideration of ideas which many folks think of as dangerous to the continuation of their virtual lives as they know them is present. It's only a game, but paradoxically it is also more than a game.
I would think that you might want to extinguish the source of the fire that's burning your house, so to speak. Yeah, I have no idea how you should go about doing that, sorry. Blunt honesty about specific items from the newsletter, perhaps? It wasn't supposed to be a public item, yet here it is. You may as well open up the brainstorming on each idea with the whole EvE community. Establish some threads to talk reasonably about each point. That way everybody feels as if they've been heard. Of course, those who want to rage will rage anyway, but that's probably just the way they are. I don't know if that idea would do any good for you, but it might.
As far as the brainstorming by CCP employees in the newsletter is concerned, personally I'm not bothered by it at all. Companies have to brainstorm about various things in order to progress. EvE has existed for quite awhile, and I've got no doubts that it will continue to exist for a long time to come. There is no other game like it.
Funny thing about all the comparisons to Star Wars Galaxies: New Game Enhancements: If you look around, you'll find a lot of posts by folks who quit out of sheer disillusionment who went back to it after a couple years and found the changes were actually pleasant, but by then the damage to SWG's reputation was done. When you're too close to something, you sometimes can't appreciate the value of change. But that doesn't eliminate the serious danger of the perception of betrayal to any company.
Anywho, Incarna looks like it has a promising future. I'm not really sure whether or not I'll purchase anything through the NeX, but judging by my history in mmo's I certainly might, lol. Probably not at those prices, though.
My only concern/request is over the loss of the hangar view. I'd honestly like to have the hangar as the default view with a "Disembark Ship" button right above the "Undock" button (or wherever you want to put it). To me, MMO's are all about freedom. The kind of freedom that you don't get in other games. Personally, I'd like the freedom to stay on the ship or disembark from the ship as I please.
Thanks for hearing me out, Dobbs

Good job at totally avoiding the elephant in the room (again).
I guess I'll repeat my question again:
Will the MT store sell non vanity items or not?
Since all your recent communications failed on purpose to avoid the subject I assume they will. Subs are canceled and will not be renewed if that's the case.

Fearless?
Study History of MMORPGs, specially the case of Star Wars Galaxies, wich player base voices were ignored by developers. Star Wars Galaxies lost ninetynine percent of suscribers slightly after the launch of NGE (New Game Experience) and is going to definitively shut down its servers at this fall.
Pricing structure?
Obviously you dont understand your players point of view. Yesterday CCP was a company that served and developed a game for us and now we see a company wich is wasting time and our PC resources in unnecesary features like the Aurum and all that related ****. No comment for the fact that really our game experience has been affected when you decided not to do CQ an optional feature. But most important of the point, we see that CCP is opening a door to get more money at the expense of serious unbalance in game.

I seldom use my main to post but, CCP Zulu, your devblog response to the huge volume of dis-satisfaction that's been expressed on the forum in the past 48 hours is staggering. You haven't answered a single question and your attempt to slip in self-praise over the patch deployment suggests to me that you have seriously mis-judged the mood of your audience.
In all seriousness you are more than welcome to contact me in-game and I will happily assist you in writing a devblog that will change the vast majority of posts from (bizarre) anger over a computer game to something more along the lines of "it bloody took them long enough, but at least this time they're answering the questions". I'll even do it free of charge.
As I see it, that's option 1. Option 2 would appear to be that you have another crack at it yourself, but I've read your blogs in the past and you don't appear to be that good at damage control. That's an objective analysis of your postings, rather than a personal attack.
Option 3 is this:

How the **** can u compare REAL life quality items with bag of **** virtual items?? You have clearly lost the ****ing plot!
The tirade of abuse and "****storm" relating to you internal newsletter is justified you ****-wits, your employees chose to commit those words to print hence they must believe them on some level so why the **** shouldn't they get a ****storm of abuse from the people that pay their wages!
To post that to the general populace and not expect even more **** being slung your way is laughable.
Quit now while ur ahead, give everyone ISK/SP/AUR and hope for the best cuz in the years that EvE has been up and running you are clearly losing the connection with the people that PAY YOUR ****ING WAGES!

First of all i would just like to say this is terrible.
Your example of using the spending $1000 on jeans because no one else has them and you want to look cool is a very bad example. Also if i spent $1000 on a pair of jeans i would want everyone to see them, who is going to see my brand new monacle in eve that costs $60? No one because im the only one that can walk around my captains quarters so no one will ever see a 3d version of them except me. I will take a guess that your portrait updates to show you own a monacle but $60 for a 2d picture of a monacle on my face you must be having a laugh.
I have played many mmo's that deal in MT or micro transactions wow being the main one, in most of these games the items you buy are vanity items and can be seen by everyone in the game and cant really be lost if you die. Now if you go down the route of selling ships in the nobel exchange this is the worst thing ever because these ships just become even more of a target in this game as they can be destroyed and lost.
I think you are failing to miss the point of the entire player base, some games can make money from mt and micro transactions but due to the nature of this game it is just not one of those. Maybe you should work on it for dust if this is the route you want to go down and make it fesable.

When it was first introduced in the Devblog, we assumed that the price points for vanity items would be quite a bit lower, and there would be more options to choose from. Instead, we get incredibly high prices that are insane for people to purchase. These aren't real threads. I pay $150 for my shirts, and over $1000 for my suits. Why the hell would I pay the same for pixels in a game? The idea that they should be equal is not fully getting the playerbase. Period.
In regards to your answer on the Fearless magazine, I understand and I think it's an adequate response.
If you were to introduce Incarna with an ample selection of clothes each for a small amount, say $1 or $2 each, then in the following months you can introduce more expensive things that you think people would want to purchase as "vanity" items. Let's face it - the current selection of clothes in the character creator is a little sparse, so we assumed that you'd be filling in that void with cheap alternatives. Eventually you'll be introducing vanity items.
If the goal is to make money, I don't think you'll succeed because the price point is way higher than the target market. If you want to make a market in Eve for these goods so it isn't saturated, make some truly amazing things that we want to buy, and make them cost whatever you think people will pay for them. But introducing such a low amount of products at the high cost is a slap in the face to those of us looking forward to playing with Incarna and experiencing the cool things it has to offer.

I have cancelled all 7 accounts. 4 are 6-month subs with various end dates. 3 are PLEX and will expire in about 36 days (I'm sad now that I JUST re-PLEXED on all 3 =/)
Seems everyone in our alliance is doing the same. I highly suggest everyone that pays a recurring sub goes into their account mgmt and cancels their sub. This will be instant hard data to those in charge at CCP that this...whatever this is, isn't going to end well for them if they continue down this path of denial, lying, and not having a clue that there's a massive rift between players and developers.
Threadnaught doesn't even begin to describe this event. As Helicity said, it is a singularity event. When the bright flash comes, don't bother covering your eyes. Embrace it as the moment when a very large number of us have the biggest gaming moment of our lives. Both players and developers. We will talk about this for years in a way that makes the T20 event seem like an insignificant event.
I'm incredibly insulted by this devblog. I'm incredibly insulted by CCP's response over EVERYTHING right now. It is an utter slap in the face. I don't profess to know the inner workings of CCP, and I can only assume it is typical of other game developers/publishers in the sense that at some point money becomes more important than the products that are being sold to willing, passionate customers. Customers who absolutely do NOT want to believe this is happening are suddenly living the nightmare.
I've played since beta 2003. My wife earned her college degree doing homework every night while mining, missioning, etc. We've subbed repeatedly over the years, coming back to Eve when things like wormholes and T3's were introduced, and cancelled when things like T20 happened. If this is not resolved to our liking, this will be the last time we ever sub Eve again. Seven accounts isn't much in the big scheme of things, but that is $100+ per month that can go to paying off a mortgage early, saving up for a vacation, or playing other MMO's that haven't hit the failscade that Eve suddenly has.
I've rarely posted on these forums. I'm no one important, this isn't even my main (already cancelled him and couldn't be bothered to post with him honestly, this is the last post I'll make until something, or, nothing happens. I'm not even going to tell you what I think you need to do to resolve this. I think you can get a pretty good idea based on the massive firebomb that has exploded in your midst.
This post will get lost in the rabble and walls of text, but I'm ok with that. I hope someone at CCP reads it. The ride over the years has been incredible. No other game has given me the adrenaline rush and excitement as pvp in Eve has. I will miss it. But I won't be lied to, deceived, insulted, or placated. I won't even demand answers or satisfaction. What you DO will speak louder than anything you can say at this point.
Look at what is happening in Jita right now. Amarr. Look at what is happening on your forums. I'm seeing players post that I haven't seen post in years. I'm seeing in-game enemies, friends, alliance mates, etc posting. It is a shame. A downright shame.

We are in full witness of the DunningûKruger effect on this dev blog. Professors of social psychology Justin Kruger and David Dunning put forth the hypothesized phenomenon where "... people are incompetent in the strategies they adopt to achieve success and satisfaction, they suffer a dual burden: Not only do they reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices, but their incompetence robs them of the ability to realize it.. ". In other words there are people that are so stupid they can't realize just how stupid they are.
We have a new poster boy for the Dunning-Kruger effect: CCP Zulu.
I'm sure someone can come along behind me with a Photoshopped example.

Zulu,
A serious non-trolling question.
Why would I want to spend 2-8 month's worth of subscription on a vanity item? <1 month ($1-$15), sure; perhaps upto $50 for an uber-unique item. But you seem to be implying that $30-70 per-item is the norm; and that prices are likely to be outside these values ($100, $150?!).
I think CCP have missed the point of microtransactions.

If you took a few minutes to look at my account time you will realize IÆve been around for a while, and IÆve read quite a bit about what has happened before. As someone who had the utmost Faith in CCP I canÆt believe how short sighted and downright arrogant that Blog was, while simultaneously not producing even the slightest hint at understanding.
As a person, a Player and endorser of EVE and CCP, I supported CQ, and Microtransactions for the good of the company.
CaptainÆs quarters is a fantastic feature, however you missed a mark by NOT releasing them all at once, and not giving us any kind of warning or timeframe as to WHEN you will be getting the missing ones to us.
One the hot bed of MicrotransactionÆs I was all for it so long as it was affordable and reasonable, and a way to improve players looks and feel. The idea that a pair of in game pants should go for anything over $5 real dollars is just freaking narrow-minded and wreaks of leaching customers for everything they are worth. You missed the point of Microtransaction, even more you missed the point of your own game. The fact it is a game should be enough to tell you just how much something as insignificant as a Monical is worth. The fact they cost over 80 in currency is justà I really donÆt have a word for it.
Guess what CCP, MicrotransactionÆs are not a status symbol, nor are they even equitable. Your pricing policy is prohibitive and makes a mockery of your customers. How you thought that would fly is beyond me. What especially baffles me is that there was a point when you told the community that based on our feedback you would adjust your pricing scheme accordingly. Where has that mentality gone?
More importantly however is helping the player in understanding your direction. Something you did not answer at all. In fact you want to far as to call your customizer base basically a bunch of opinionated dumbasses.
I personally canÆt condone the fact that people have targeted specific people for their opinions or dragged them through the mud. That I am ashamed of as part of the community. However that doesnÆt change that you answered nothing, gave your player base nothing, and basically just told us all to ****off.
If that is how you are going to treat us. I donÆt need you or your game.
I had been expecting an enlightened cool, and informative response from your Development team, and instead I got unimpressive jargon that didnÆt even manage to white wash me with pretty words and interesting opinions. You blog was essentially no better then some of the opinions on this Forum.
I understand that your angry at your player base for smearing your employeeÆs but its your duty as a representative of the company to be above the mud slinging of your more childish community and give us hard answers to hard questions.
You didnÆt do that Zulu, you didnÆt do that at all.
I really wish you hadnÆt gave all my fears about CCP credence. You were suppose to dash them, not make them larger.

How old do you think I am? Jesus, what a pitiful life one must have if one needs to impress "friends" with his expensive pants, yet alone pixel ones?
