Well, I dont post much on these forums but, quite honestly, enough is enough.
I've been subbed to Eve pretty much from day 1. (2-3 accounts)
I've spent the last few hours staring at the cancel sub screen - trying to grow a pair and actually cancel.
Well I have and so have around 90% of my long time friends in game and in RL. (at a guess somewhere between 40 and 60 accounts)
Unless you (CCP) sort your **** out and start communicating and listening to your customers - we wont be back.
Such a sad day
plz leave the game plz plz plz

ARE YOU MOVING BEYOND AURUM-FOR-VANITY ITEMS?
So i can know should i continue to play and spend time on your game or not.
I think I can answer that for you.
Selling vanity only items (even at dumb prices) will only net you so much money, not everyone is willing to buy them. The vanity items are also not cheap to design, model and implement, and vanity must be feed and updated continuously. CCP's 6+ month lead time on making 1-2 new models/shirts/accessories would rendered the vanity only NeX store a joke eventually.
The only thing they could sell consistently in NeX is pay-to-win things. After that happens, its just a matter of how fast things go down hill.
But there is more.
The funny thing about most pay-to-win items is they have basically ZERO development cost. Add SP? Probably 10 lines of code to add points to the system already in place. Gold ammo? Take faction ammo, pallet shift the icon, adjust stats and you are done. Same with modules, BPCs and implants.
Vanity ships, or 'custom' paintjobs and logos will take more work, they've been requested forever and now that greed and a cracking whip are in full command, you'll see them very soon.
Pay-to-win items are just too easy, and too (short term) lucrative for the 'Greed is Good' mentality of CCP to pass up.
CCP will not come out and say directly "Yes non-vanity items will be sold." because they are trying to be subtle on this (and only this it seems). String people along, slowly ease 'innocent' pay-to-win items in the store, and hope people are blind enough to not only pay a subscription, but also pay out the nose for items all but required to play the game.
IS CCP moving beyond aurum-for-vanity items? Yes, at full speed.
Greed is Good after all.
One of the only posts so far I've deemed worthy of replying to, this is a common marketing tactic to break down peoples negative views or 'Ease in' less pleasant functions of a system, they've just tried to cut the corners of getting people onto the treadmill in the first place, I was saying to some of my alliance mates the other day this very same thing.
it worked for world of warcraft, they went the CCG route first, this put some susceptible people in a position where they had unique items, and their exclusivity made them desirable, as demonstrated by the Ebay trade in the in game item cards, then when people were slavering for in game items that made them more noticable because of their spectral wotsit, or rocket thingie they started releasing sparkle ponies, and millions of people payed ten pounds for a sparkling ethereal horse, of course the horse didn't cost more than a decent spaceship!
I am pretty awed at how much the Aurum system has impacted the trade market already, I've seen the most horrendous tshirt for sale at nearly half a billion isk, and I am constantly horrified at the thought that one day I'm going to log in and someone will have purchased it.
Don't get me wrong I have no issue with CCP catering to people who want bangles and frippery for their avatar, its personally not me however, but introducing a pay to win infrastructure as it has been so aptly identified is going to cost CCP monthly fees for two accounts from me, I don't use plex, I understand why people might, but I don't mind in the slightest paying a few quid a month for the entertainment that eve provides, in the same breath however, I'll survive without it too if I'm forced to, which I suspect is going to be the case.

Edited by: Demontang on 25/06/2011 20:19:55 This is the most r e t a r d e d blog response to a crisis I've ever heard. It demonstrates to me that there still is a very large disconnect between CCP and the players that pay to play the game.
It addressed zero issues the players have and only enlarged them. The primary question players are upset over are that CCP is interested in is how much can CCP make money and get away with it instead of focusing on a making a great game that because it is great in and of itself will generate revenue.
Instead, Arnar Hrafn Gylfason talks about the prestige value of wearing $1,000 jeans instead of $50 jeans.
Most of us could really care less about vanity items. I don't care if they sell monacles for $1,000. I will just laugh at everyone who wears them anyway. What everyone is really concerned with is how far will CCP go to introducing non-vanity items into the new item mall and how that will affect the gameplay. It certainly seemed from the leaked article that CCP did not give a flying rats ass whether the new item mall was limited strictly to vanity items.

The timing of all of this is ironic to say the least. Right now CCP's only source of revenue comes directly from the EvE player base, so they actually need us - for now at least.
CCP - It must really suck that you can't just tell us to "go stuff it - quit if you don't like it". We know you want to. If Dust were released you'd be free to micro transact everything in EvE to your heart's content. After all, its only an aged MMO nearing the end of its project life-cycle, thats served its purpose and now can be regulated to the role of enhancing the experience for the new Dust players. EvE Online - Nukes from Space!.
But you can't do that yet. So, what assurances do we players have that when Dust comes out you won't put skillpoints, spaceships, superturrets, T4 ammo, the faction towers that were quietly removed a while back, faction rep and whatever whacky gamebreaking items that you can think of into your cash shop? None. And since your trust and credibility is utterly ruined, a lot of people wouldn't believe it anyhow even if CCP were to state that it will never happen.
Get Hilmar to post a dev blog to outline a credible plan of moving forward, and follow it up by making meaningful improvements to convince us and you'll keep some of the subscribers that are walking out the door. But that will likely not happen until a significant amount of the player base has left, which would be too late for CCP and too late for the players.
Might be a good idea for you devs at CCP to forget about EvE altogether now and fast track Dust. The industry's used to crap being released as bug-ridden disasters rushed out the door way too early, so you'd be right in sync with the norm. Just package a monocled barbie doll in the collector's edition and you'll be fine.
Now one person's voice means absolutely nothing here, but when enough of us are gone you can consider our collective message of "you're all fired" sent. EvE with gamebreaking micro transactions is absolutely unacceptable.
And before anyone asks.. yes you can have my stuff. I'm thinking of officer fitting my loki and taking a trip out to the EvE gate before my game time runs out. If you can gank me before I can get there then whatever drops is all yours. I really don't care anymore.

Still no response to anything that matters.
CCP you realy need to give your self a /golfclap on this one.
If you dontcare about EvE any mopre then you need to move on or sell it to people that do, if were just beta testers for WoD then you need to come clean and say so.
But so far you have stuck your middle finger up at us in your response and you have shown your true colour's.
Lets not forget if it wasnt for us the playerbase you wouldnt have an EvE and you would never have gotten all the publicity you recieved because of us and the grand wars we had and everything that goes with it.

This is what I want:
Listen to the CSM. Put all future resources into fixing large battle lag, nothing else new until that is done. Revert jumpbridges. Reduce Aurum pricing. Promise to never use Aurum for non-vanity items.
Apologize for banning people for expressing their opinion, you stupid POSes. Then maybe I will resub. Pre-emptive bans, thread deletion? Honestly this is the issue that sent me over the edge. I want a firm commitment that you ****s will never do this again.

I too am concerned about the non vanity items that may come into the nex store (which it seems they probably will).
I have already cancelled my two subs. Don't expect to be putting anymore money into the game if it continues on this path.
I would say to CCP, that this seems to be a defining moment in your company's future. You may believe you have a strong financial outlook from this, but it seems from the thread that you will be taking a significant loss.
Don't let this turn into a pride issue of not wanting to appear wrong.

I realize that after the angry element leaves, you may manage to lure enough new players interested in monocles and virtual clothing stores to keep making money, I wish you luck. Because from where I stand, this looks allot like what SOE did with Star Wars Galaxies. EVE is not LoTR, EVE is not DDO, EVE is not Allods Online, and you're fools if you think it's players want the same things.
You may laugh on the way to the bank, but not with my $15.
Not to mention the fact that SOE just canned Star Wars Galaxies as the business model failed completely.

My guess is DUST will be released as a stand-alone to help with cashflow for the winding down of CCPGame as they sell the assets etc.
There is a chance though that CCP will just keep going as a black box for Icelandic billionare money.

It's kinda sad that you can afford to devote all these resources to designing useless **** that 90% of your player base not only doesn't care about but actually actively HATES and you can't be arsed to higher someone to give us less transparent marketing lies...
Think a little on this:
If I was a builder people would pay me to build them houses.
So how many of my clients are going to get excited when I announce that I'm stopping construction on their homes, BUT I be compensating them by supplying free hand-made Hello Kitty dolls. Additionally I'll will supply hand-made clothes for them to wear (at 10 times the price the home itself, these are ****ing designer dolls after all!).

Well CCP... if my calculations are correct based on the feedback and counting how many people have claimed to unsub in the three forum posts going that combined amount to the largest revolt I've ever seen in Eve Online (:sniffle: I'm so proud of our community! :sniffle:) then:
52 monocles ~ $5,000 US in 48 hours
2473 lost subscribers ~ -$38,000 US in 48 hours
Good job. I'm sure your investors will be quite pleased with this new marketing strategy.

Ok guys I've read thru a lot of the pages here and all I got to say get and grip and a life. eve is a game and ccp is the company that makes it. you have access to a great game with free updates so what if ccp wants to cash in on what other people have been doing for years. there are website out there that offer ships skillbook and other items for real cash. why not let ccp do the same and shout down all the bot miners and isk farmers that make eve a pain some times to play. I've heard alot of people say it will let other players win. when did eve turn into a game that had a win to it LOL. if you don't like it go play something else and give it a rest. ccp has the right to do what they want to eve and you have the right not to play eve. so stop being little kids and grow up.
CCP I hope you keep putting out station updates and I can't wait to rent a station slot and open a bar or a shop and sell the items I buy with myAUR to these guy that are being such babies LOL. CCP keep up the GREAT Work and I love every update and change you do to make eve a better place. |

Hmmm.
@ Arnar Hrafn Gylfason, Senior Producer of EVE Online
Quote: "Why would you want to wear a pair of $1,000 jeans when you can get perfectly similar jeans for under $50?"
Because you don't you imbecilic dumbass!
Seriously WTF is the matter with you? Is it the f**king water in Iceland or something?
The reason why you'd spend $1,000 USD on a pair of jeans is because of the f**king quality. Just like a $5,000 suit has a enormously higher quality than a $200 suit. The fabric. The stitching. But what we're discussing is virtual clothing with no quality whatsoever!
Holy Christ on a Crutch you buggers at CCP are utter and complete idiots.
