Black Prophecy. It's free to play, but interestingly, they don't sell skill points or uber mods/ships.
Wouldn't be so sure about that, I heard the best ship in the game had to be rented for like 15$/7days and weapon systems were a bit more.
No such thing. You must've confused it with something else. You can't change ships at all, just place different subsystems on it that changes its appearance and functionality. Think t3, but with changes being more drastic.
Their vanity stores sell stuff that indirectly affect gameplay, like crafting chance booster (thinking invention chances), which are also rare drops from rats, not just cash exclusive.
It's what you would call a healthy amount of greed, for a free to play game. Comparing to CCP making you pay monthly subscription, then sell SP and uber mods...
As for selling source code, companies tend to hold on to it for a long time, until its outdated and interest wane, instead of selling it. That is, unless the company goes bankrupt outright, no one's willing to take it in, and they're forced to liquidate.

Umm the new Jump Gate was canceled a couple of months ago.
Perpetuum looks to be the closest thing to EVE. I might be a bit primitive.

Sadly i think Jumpgate is vaporware. So many problems for so long.
Hopefully some smart programmers, willing to take a risk, will recognize the giant gap that just blew open in the MMO market and rush to fill it.

Greed is good, those that are greedy do not have debt and bills to pay. Without greed there is nothing!. Not everything is green and dandy or fair in this world mate. If you think it is, then grow your hair long, wear flowery clothes and go protest with a spliff hanging from ya mouth!.

If it ever gets finished, does seem like it would be awesome - or at least their tech demo's make me drool (and they crowdsource if you're technically/artistically inclined as well).

They're paying bills just fine. However, they don't have expensive development bills for certain PS3 title that need to be paid. Ends meet if you don't have bottomless pits to fill.

Starfarer looks like it'll be good once it's finished if you're into the single player thing. It's only $10 currently. Check it out and support an indie!

Other than KOTOR I havn't liked any star wars games... and after Dragon age 2 I don't trust bioware at all... They've stated to wanting to directly compete with WOW...
I'll rather wait and see what people think.

Edited by: Vic Mason on 25/06/2011 05:18:06 This MMO isn't out yet but it's literally another world and on another level compared to EVE Online. It has one of the Senior Staff from Epic Games working on it with the creator and a loyal community that actually help create the game by offering free ship models in the game forums. Check out the videos first, they're just beautiful, planetary entry, every star is clickable from your spaceship.

Spam it everywhere imo, this game needs more support and it's just amazing, it's also in many respects what EVE Online could have become.

Jumpgate is vaporware (which is sad, as the original was fun.) Going from EvE to Perpetuum is like trading a Ferrari for a rusty bicycle. Earthrise is a possibility depending on what kind of attitude the devs there have, but I've heard that it's half finished and not doing well.
The best hope I've found for a full-on EVE replacement is Infinity, but I've been dropping in on that site a couple times a year since '05 and they still don't have an alpha out. (On the other hand, the fact that it's actually still being worked on, with a slowly growing dev team, does give me hope that those people have enough drive to actually put out something playable one of these years.)
I don't know what I'm going to do for my sandbox fix, but I'm currently downloading Black Prophecy to see if it fills the Internet Spaceship fix.

Interesting, I stand corrected, Though I recall very distinctly it being that game but it got alot of harsh press about it and was passed over more or less upon release because of it.. Sounds like they fixed it though, Which is interesting. Have fun in it!

Mostly because it's the closest thing to EVE out at the moment, and you can forgive it's lack of polish because it's only just made it out of beta. Remember how bad EVE looked around beta/just after?

Im going to go back to SC2, at least until GW2 and SW:TOR come out. At least SC2 is free, and afaik there is no ****ing $70 monocle in that game. Actually, coincidentally enough, the monocle in EVE costs more than the boxed version of SC2 :D Who woulda thought.

Might be Battlestar Galactica Online, they let you Captain a 2km long Baseship/Battlestar for 10k Merits but they are awarded through PVP.
The game is the only other Space MMO I know that goes beyond Fighters Jetplanes in Space with Escort and Line Ships. Not counting STO of course.
