Question for all really. I'm not a n00b to eve but i am a n00b to pvp. I have three accounts two of which are carebear accounts and this one that i'm trying to go grizzly.
The problem is that the militia seems pretty weak at the moment that or very paranoid about new commers. Either case i'm sorta stuck without any action as going out to solo in the miltia is pretty much suicide.
This toon is really low SP but i've managed to train up enough to fit my rifter with all tech II gear (minus the rigs). So i'm not totally useless and figured i'd make a semi-decent tackler at least to start with. I've even applied with a few corps and haven't heard anything back from them. So again wandering if it's just new commer paranoia.
Question is should i have just applied for a low sec pirate corp over the militia? I was thinking that operating out of high sec roaming and killing in low sec then retreating to high sec would be a good start to PvP, was i wrong should i have just made the plunge into low sec and leave the carebear mentality behind, even though they fund this toon as a "trust fund baby"?

The militia operates almost entirely in lowsec. It's where the fighting or "front" is. It seems you may not be 100% comfortable with living in lowsec, but are at least willing to enter it, which is the first step. I would talk to Cosmic Raider, he's been around and runs a noob friendly militia corp. I strongly recomend joining it, at least to get the hang of things.
Another issue is you may be just too low SP for some corps. With a lot of fleet strategys involving kiting fleets, your rifter may not survive to get even close enough to tackle something. Cosmic Raiders corp can provide guidance and training to help you learn PvP and give you advice on how to adjust your skill training to best benefit militia fleets.

General militia for any faction is full of paranoia and not always helpful.
Keep applying and there will be a corp that takes you. I seriously doubt it's that hard to get into a solid corp.
The biggest challenge b/w the Caldari/Gallente front is alot of the fights occur with a BC/BS/T2 fleet. It's a rarity seeing t1 Frig/Cruiser gangs rolling around unless it's from a corp. Those are few and far between. I think more of these types of fleets would draw more people into FW.

Apply to my militia corp, i'm all for training new people to learn stuff. Hell, just yesterday someone with couple of years under her belt got her very first killmail after flying five minutes with me. Granted it was just a pirate cyno heron but you have to start somewhere

Optimus, if working with either Cosmic or Damar doesn't work out, send me a mail. I've got a couple of new guys, and we can always find a role for a Rifter...

Thanks for the advice guys, It's not that i'm unwilling to train any other ships or anything i just figured that since i'm at such a low sp and don't really have any of the supporting skills trained up yet, that me in an interceptor and AF would be pretty sad if i don't even have skills high enough to really support it. As the ship is only as good as the person flying it and the skills that person has trained. After all isn't a scrambler a scrambler regardless of what ship it's on?
I fly minie ships which happen to be the most expensive Tech II frigs in the game. Seems like just to get the idea and hang of things its going to cost me just over 20mil per ship and since i'm a n00b at this i'll need to burn through a few hundred million just to learn the basics. Which isn't a huge problem it's just that i had planned on training up all the supporting skills while flying something cheap and inexpensive. I mean i can be in an interceptor within two weeks. But i don't think i'll be that much more effective since i don't know what i'm doing lol and don't really have the support skills needed to really take advantage of the ship as is much less a Tech II ship.

Just fly the standard PvP Rifter for now. No sense in wasting isk on ships you can't get the full potential out of. Frigates can have a role in almost any gang and its one of the most competitive T1 solo frigs out there. Also, Stabbers and Ruptures are also cheap, effective gang and solo ships. So you don't have to get Gucci to contribute...

I'd be ver interested in joining an FW Corp, but having only a single account I don't want to be forever farming isk to only lose my ship in the first fight.

If your "carebear" accounts means mission runners, use those guys
You'll hardly get anywhere as a nobody, lowskill alt. Use a better character. ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

In EVE there are no bad pilots. Just uncreative ones or those who lack imagination. Frigs and tacklers play many different roles in fleet combat. It's also incorrect to assume that you'll instantly get primaried in a fleet full of BCs/BC and will lose them all the time. I've seen many fleet fights where rifters or cruisers have stayed alive through the fight because the more expensive ships were getting primaried. Who wants to primary a rifter when they can primary the Zealot that is more of a threat?
Join a corp, x up, and just soak it all in. Many perceptions that you have of FW or pvp in general will be dispelled. You'll be fine.

You have to strike a balance between isk-making and PvP. The first step is only flying those ships you can afford to lose. If you're a new character and can't generate isk quickly, only fly T1 frigates/Dessies. Believe it or not, there are roles in the fleet for those types of ships, pretty much in any type of fight. If you have the ability to crank out a 100 million isk in an afternoon of mission running, then you're in a position to fly and lose bigger, more capable stuff.

Thats the nice thing about FW missions, you can run level 4's for a couple hours and make a little over 600 mil. 600 Mil goes a long way unless you flying nothing but faction cruisers, commandships, recons, and BS.
