Edited by: NameWasTakenAlready on 28/06/2011 05:26:04 I'm dead serious. This is NOT my idea. It was posted in another thread, but I think this course of action could be a decent source of income for CCP in the short term. It also doesn't violate the sandbox, the RP and story of the game, or change the mechanics at all. The game is basically a dystopian megacorp run future, so I don't think anyone would mind if we saw Coke ads on the billboards.
Thoughts?

It's been thought of before, way back in 2004.
With many vets leaving, i've noticed a influx of new players hooking up with the amount of press eve has been getting the past week.
The MT will not effect the PVE side of EVE and null sec PVP is boring at best of times, fight lag, fight spies, fight corp thieves, seriously, who would want null sec pvp?

would be funny flying along and seeing the mcdonalds golden arches floating in space, swiftly replaced by something totally random like.. an ad for ford

Yes, because what EVE needs is FANTA ads!

So, why not sell the ad-space on the gate billboards (and perhaps even on the various tickers on the TV and whatnot) for Aurum to players and organizations? It'd generate CCP some small amount of supplementary income and add a pretty cool element of immersion to the universe (the placement of player-made organizations in the world and such).

This I would go for.

CCP could sell add space to ingame corporations for Aurum. I don't really see a problem with that. If you just restrict it to big corps it would seriously reduce the amount of *****es.

The trick would be to keep the level of immersion, making sure the ads are appropriately designed for a futuristic setting.
No 1000km wide billboards next to jumpgates!
Once the rest of Incarna is released there will be alot of highly sought after advertising space in all the stations.
They could even beta it on us (like they will anyway) with internal ads for Dust initially. |

Great idea. Although if successful the advertising would require nothing short of a media department given the time sharing, rate settings, TOS and other logistics. That equates to more workload, which equates to longer work hours for existing employees, or more employees on the payroll. Given the current situation that kind of overhead would probably outweigh the venture or keep the cost of the service out of reach to be practical. --------------------------------------------- My expectations aren't high enough to be overly disappointed. |

Google manages to do it with what amounts to automated algorithms with their advertisement system; I'm sure CCP could come up with something that works. Perhaps an Aurum fee for a certain duration of advertisement, with any given period of time having a certain amount of "slots" to advertise in, which are booked in advance and held in a rolling queue.
All that would be necessary is perhaps a small team of people (while they do their other jobs in CCP) or an individual to inspect the various submitted ads for eligibility (no offensive language, etc) and you'd be golden.

This, although i shudder to think at the prices, they could even be regionally devided.
They could start with the commercials from the AT's. (They should not break immersion though, I wouldn't like to see shattered crystal adds) ------------------------------------------------- A friend of death, a brother of luck and a son of a *****
