WOW now Free to play forever.
No I am not jokeing.
and yes you can grind the PvP twink gear for level 19 Twink PVP bracket and PvP in WoW at the 19 bracket forever as well.
Pardon me whil I go sob quietly in the corner because if blizzard, a company that is making money from WOW at sutch a rate that they are literaly flushing a billion USD a year way in payments to stockholders is going to the FTP forever modle then I suspect thats bascialy the end of subscription mmos. .End of line.
If your too paranoid to play EvE. . . ...then your not paranoid enough to play EvE ----------------

Edited by: Bane Necran on 28/06/2011 23:53:08 - A level cap of 20. - A maximum of 10 gold. - Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks. - Unable to trade via the Auction House, mailbox, or player-to-player. - In-game access to public chat channels unavailable. Players are limited to communicating using only say, party, or whisper. - Characters will be unable to create or join guilds. - Characters are not able to send whispers to other characters unless they have been added to the characters' friends lists or have received a whisper from a character first. - Characters will not be able to invite other players into a party. - Characters will not be able to join parties with other characters above level 20. - Voice chat disabled on Starter Edition accounts. - Realms experiencing login queues will prioritize players who have full, paid accounts. - Starter Edition accounts are not eligible for character transfers - RealID features are disabled on all Starter Edition Accounts.
In other news, i guess i was right about their subs dropping dramatically.
Don't worry, OP, i'm sure nothing will be free in their new MMO. Due out next year, is it?

To put this in context. It'd be like an unlimited Eve free trial where you could only buy from NPC seeded orders, couldn't fly anything better than a T1 frigate or do anything but level 1 missions, and couldn't leave highsec. And couldn't earn more than 10 million ISK.
Its essentially an unlimited duration trial, not anything like real F2P.

Incorrect. The market in WoW is not the center of the game so comparing it to the EVE market just isn't possible. Again comparing low level stuff to level 1 missions is stupid. Wow the low level stuff is fun and alot of people choose to play at this level instead of their high level characters.
This move by blizzard could really put pressure on alot of the other MMOs out there.

Basically the only change is that their trial versions now have the content from the burning crusade (+2 races) and they don't stop after 2 weeks.

Sometimes businesses have to change due to the consumer... and sometimes the consumer has to change due to the business. I guess you can blame the part of our brain that says $5.00 just isnt all that much.

Sad thing is, I bet theres going to be more of ex-WoW addicts in denial of there love for the game signing up than new WoW players.
This trial basically equals a s*** version of guildwars... Just get GW or buy a WoW sub... Don't be dumb and think you wont get bored of the trial within 2 days.
Pretty cool for the people that never played it though :)

They won't do very well as twink pvpers in the 10-14 and 15-19 brackets without heirloom gear. And only full accounts are able to get that stuff. Again, it'd be like only being able to do T1 frigate pvp fights in Eve. A minority might find that exciting, but most will either buy the full game and move on, or get bored pretty quick.

A level 20 cap?
So they got rid of the 15 day free trial and replaced it with a 2 day free trial!
I suppose they just want to grab gullible people before they realise just how much rubbish WoW actually is!

It used to be 15 days *with* a level 20 cap. So it is less restrictive now, if there's anyone out there who *hasn't* tried out the bloody thing in the 5+ years its been out.

Does getting blitzed and then having the chick you made get pretty much naked and run around town screaming about roofies count as trying it?

I watched other people play it, I actually started downloading the trial once upon a time, then changed my mind and canceled the download. And it's nearly 7 years, not 5 (November 23, 2004 according to wikipedia). _

I hated Diku style MUDS. They only seemed to appeal to aspie trolls who liked repetative risk free behaviour.
WOW is just graphical Diku. There's arguably even less social interaction going on in these types of MMO's than in EvE. Its truly depressing grind.
Also its not F2P. Its just spin on an unlimited free trial init.

BattleForge is a lot of fun. It is a fantasy rts based on magic cards. And it is F2P up till a certain point.

This is not a bad idea actually. I played WOW from mid 2005 to the end of 2007, hitting 2 level caps with a main, but spending most of my time in PVP with an alt.
Thinking back, the good part were those times in Westfall, Duskwood, and Straglethorn.
Everything after that feels like a memory of an endless grind. Seriously, "kill 15 pirates and bring back their underwear" get's old after 20 levels. At the end of 2007 it was PVP or hang myself with the mouse cord.
Another problem was the graphics. At the lower levels it's OK, but the higher you go, your toon and everything else starts to look like the work of a very bored art student who played too much D&D. Yeah, little things floating around my head giving off sparks and crap - I get it, it's magic. Big deal.
