Edited by: The Babyface on 29/06/2011 00:45:10 So one of my accounts today has been banned by CCP, supposedly due to a "security leak" and said it may have been hacked and used to spam forums or sell isk. Has anyone else had this? I'll feel more comfortable knowing that there are others in the community having account issues due to security. I know this will likely spark all kinds of conspiracy theories, but frankly I'm a little unsettled myself given light of current events....

Yes, CCP is mass banning accounts of people pointing out their failures.
Accounts associated with the Eve-online official forums as well as any account names used on 3rd party sites are also being banned.
CCP has initiated a process of completely hunting and banning all detractors on any part of the internet.

While that may be the logical conclusion, most of my responses have usually been pretty neutral, or more antagonistic towards the naysayers and account closers. I've been outspoken about the fact that I think trolling CCP and calling them fail is counterproductive, meaning the ruder we are to CCP the more they ignore us (as evidenced by Hilmar's email - lets see what the do, ignore what they say). I've certainly questioned CCP decision making and direction of Eve, but only in the context of saying we need honesty from them, but I haven't gone as far as to put them down and ridicule them.
I hardly see how my posts would have called for the ban hammer, that's why I'll simply re-post with this account, tell the community about my ban, and see if lightning strikes twice. If this account disappears as well, I'll know what's going on.
For the record, I've done a complete system scan with multiple anti-virus/spyware/malware, no evidence of any bugs, key-loggers, or trojans. Never had anything like this happen before.
Thanks, looking forward to seeing the extent of these bans - does anyone have any idea how many accounts are affected, or know where there is a discussion of these bans elsewhere on the net??
Is this related to the lulzsec hack??

Edited by: Katrina Cortez on 29/06/2011 00:56:06 Sounds like someone flagged you as an ISK spammer/seller... I would just petition it and ask for clarification. PS - there used to be a way to see who logged into your account from the account management screen (ip addresses)

Hopefully a moderator or other CCP person will be able to clarify - if they've been having systemic security issues, there's bound to be others with this situation. They could tell you what to expect.
The other big plus to some CCP comment here would be to stifle some of the rumor of random bans with no reason or explanation. We don't need any further damage due to misinformation or false speculation.

LOL. Nah, not in one the big alliances. I've dabbled, but never enjoyed being told what to do every time I've logged on, or being locked out of all my ships and goods when my alliance lost sov where I'd stashed my stuffs.
There's plenty of isk to be made in FW, I assure you, just ask the big alliances cause they come here to farm our missions a lot. I'd just prefer to have an extra carrier or three to hot drop for fun, instead of a monocle that will only show up in icons and provide me with nothing to support my fleets. We all have our ways of spending our iskies/aurum/plex, whatever. its all the same now.

From what I've seen in the past bannings of this nature are generally do to someone hacking into your account. CCP suspends the account until you get things straightened out with them. This is actually a good thing for you since it will limit the amount of damage that can be caused to you. If you haven't already done so go ahead and submit a petition.

me2, & I used some language that really should have got me banned. In fact for awhile there I really went overboard by my usual standards.
Also my criticism has been unrelenting & constant & will continue until; a) I get banned. b)my sub runs out. c) I get bored with the increasing number of CCP Alts defending the indefensible Vs. the declining number of informed & sane players as their subs end.

Nah,I haven't ever been to Jita. I'm hoping its a simple hack, (though that's really not comforting at all) and I still don't think its because of my commments.
I've been calling bull**** on both sides of the warzone. I think CCP's done a horrible job of being sensitive to its communities feelings on the matter, and owed the CSM more honesty before Incarna was deployed.
On the other hand, I think calling CCP employees cheats, thieves, scam artists, and *******s is counterproductive. It's rude and ungrateful to the talent who have worked hard, even if its not what they wanted to give the community (o7 John Turbefield). We cant change the stockholders needs for money, or second guess them. All we can hope for is to demand a louder voice in the direction of major issues such as RMT, and be able to shape the WAY we give them more of our money.
I don't see what's ban worthy about that.
...one other thing - if this was hacked, what could i expect when I do regain access? Has this happened to others in the community? Did you lose anything?

Nope, never been to Jita. The character and associated account that got locked down were enrolled in Minmatar militia, I couldn't have flown to Jita if I wanted to. And I've never traded isk for anything other than a PLEX.

Edited by: GM Lelouch on 30/06/2011 04:27:01 Hello all,
I'd like to talk about and clarify our account banning processes a little bit to give you a better idea of when accounts are banned, and why. There are in general three main reasons for why an account would be banned:
1. An account can be banned, either temporarily or permanently, if the account has been involved in a EULA/ToS violation of some sort. 2. An account is temporarily closed if we obtain indications that it has been accessed by hackers. An "account ban" is not really the proper terminology here as that inherently suggests that the account holder is being punished. These "bans", or account closures, are only done for the player's protection; to ensure that no further damage is done (if any has been done) to the account while its security is restored. 3. Accounts can be closed down pending investigation into some sort of alleged yet still unconfirmed EULA/ToS violation if there is a need to freeze assets while the matter is looked into. Such a ban might for example be applied if we suspect that a corp theft was conducted through the use of an account not belonging to the thief.
There are three "ban types" which can be applied to an account:
a. Temporary bans with a set duration, most often used in response to EULA/ToS violations. b. Permanent bans. As the name suggests, they're permanent bans used in response to serious EULA/ToS violations. c. Pending bans. These have no set duration and they're used when we need to freeze an account while an investigation of some sort takes place. This is the ban type used for point #3 above and it is often used for hacked accounts as well.
A message stating the ban type, duration (in case of a temporary ban) and reason for the ban should be displayed when an attempt is made to log on to a banned account. An e-mail outlining the reason for the ban should also be sent to the e-mail address registered for the account and this mail can be responded to directly in order to contact us here at customer support.
Constructive criticism of our operations will not lead to an account ban and the rumors that bans have been handed out en-masse for merely participating in the recent Jita protests are false. Individual bans may have been applied to some participants for EULA violations of some sort.
Originally by: Dinner Isu One of my friends got banned and CCP won't even tell him why. He emailed them, and they didn't want to tell him what he had done wrong. He has since cancelled his account.
It sounds like your friend is not sharing the whole story with you as there are no circumstances under which we will not tell a player the reason for why the ban was applied. We'll even tell undisputed RMTers that they've been banned for involvement in RMT; we might not tell them how they were caught as that would be counter-productive to our investigative methods, but we will never withhold the actual reason for the ban.
---
The Babyface: I've taken a look at your account and it has been re-opened at this point in time. Blitzproxy: I can see that you've got an outstanding petition right now, a response was sent to it by a GM a little while ago and the matter will hopefully be sorted quickly. Yuki Zetsubo: I couldn't find a banned account in our system which fit this character's registration information, nor could I locate a petition. I'd recommend that you reply to the banmail that should've been sent to your e-mail address, or send an e-mail to [email protected] if you got none for some reason.
I'll keep an eye on this thread for the next few days and perhaps address further questions regarding the account banning process if there are any and time allows. Please note however that disputes of individual bans will not be discussed here, such matters are discussed privately and a petition needs to be filed for that purpose.
Best regards, Senior GM Lelouch EVE Online Customer Support

I disagree, in general.
Those who dropped/spammed cans and shuttles with the intent to cause the node to crash/lag, yes, they could/should be in trouble.
Those who shot the monument as a symbol of 'serious bizness' civil disobedience, no, I don't think so.
ofc, I'm in the second group, so flame me all you wish.
I consider the monument shooters/protesters as a wonderful example of 'emergent gameplay' / 'expressing the soul of eve'.

Just because Helicity organized the griefer-base once a year to trash ships so a bunch of people could $$Profit$$, doesn't mean he had an excuse to act like he did. His level of immaturity in those communications that he proudly released was almost laughable and sadly pathetic. I honestly can't think of a word to describe how unfortunate it was. Needless to say, he deserved what he got, and shouldn't be back any time soon. At this point, I'm sure even an apology isn't enough.

Husos***yi :
Hi there!
Three of my friends are in the same shoes as you. They never do anything against the TOS or the EULA. But they get banned earlier of this week. They sent 3 different petition because they not get a single bit of info why they get banned. No e-mail no log screen message nothing. The first one still open and not yet answered the 2nd and the 3rd already closed and the GM ask pls not send multiple petitions for the same issue... (sometimes they play from the same house)
They dont know anything about the issue because they not get any info. Thats why they file different petitions.
I hope there is "only" something with the login server or something like that, and all "innocent" player will get their accounts recovered and get compensated at least with the lost gametime and the missing skillpoints.
Best luck!
So they are MORE ! HELP US pretty please !

I'll keep you updated then : A Senior GM is watching this thread. He stated that every ban comes with a reason. I didn't get any reason of ban, no email, nothing. Do you actually believe if I was guilty and aware of it I would waste my time on forum? The logic says "NO". I'm here to find answers, found a Senior GM who seems to be interested in this thread and I don't want to lose the chance to talk to him or at least get some info.

Guess what kid, if you want to contact a GM or discuss a ban - this is not the place.
And as a general point, got to wonder how many people in this thread are "not recieving emails notifying them of ban details" because those e-mails are going to the original account owner... #justsaying

Here, read it a few times, u never know, maybe u get it :
A message stating the ban type, duration (in case of a temporary ban) and reason for the ban should be displayed when an attempt is made to log on to a banned account. An e-mail outlining the reason for the ban should also be sent to the e-mail address registered for the account and this mail can be responded to directly in order to contact us here at customer support.
I didn't get any message, email, no notification, nothing on ece account management...is it clear now? I'm asking WHY ?

P.S. if nobody bar yourself and the GM's know anything and you want to be left alone, why are you posting in a public forum? *hint* there is an email address there, use it. They will not discuss individual bans on the forums.

I had an alt account "banned" by CCP as a hacker compromised it. I was notified by email and with CCPs help managed to get the account back under my control and reverse most of the damage that was done to the account. The process was swift and mostly "painless" apart from the damage done to my ship and mineral collection. I strongly urge all players to use long and complex passwords using a combination of upper and lower case characters as well as numbers and symbols in a randomised, non sequential order. I used a simple word and payed the price. It will not happen again. |

From the moment the clients dropped all 3 at the same time, I tried many times and tried to log on all...Nobody could actually stay in game if it was password hack cos I would've kicked him out as soon as I was logging...instead all accounts were banned, that is my belief. Either CCP detected something and froze them all to prevent damage, either they had another reason. But as long as I know for sure I didn't use bots, selling isk for real money (RMT thingie) and I'm not aware of breaking any rules, I really don't know what to say...I thought it over and over, can't figure out what is going on.
I don't understand either why I haven't been informed of what's happening to my accounts since Senior GM just stated that all users are informed why they got banned. I didn't receive any mail, no message in Eve account management, nothing at all.
Maybe Senior GM will answer in private/email or however he/she wishes to. I am helpless, I hate this silence and seems like nobody from CCP bothers to clarify the situation.Since June 18th, I'm waiting for something and I'm losing hope. It's just beyond my comprehension...

This is a very good point and it bears mention that we will under no circumstances request your account password. If you get a mail claiming that one or more of your accounts have been banned yet your accounts have not been banned then chances are that you've gotten a phishing mail.
If you have any reason to suspect that the banmail you've gotten is not legitimate, do mail [email protected] rather than responding to the mail itself. Another thing of note is that our banmails do not have any links within them, if the mail asks you to go to log in to a webpage of some sort in order to sort the matter out then it is a phishing mail.

Poor choice of words on my part, nice catch! Criticism alone, constructive or otherwise, is not a bannable offense. Action may be taken if the form of criticism violates the EULA/TOS, the chances of which are much higher if the criticism is of the non-constructive variety. Threatening bodily harm to any of our staff or another player would examples of such a violation.

Yes this happened to my account once, Reset all your passwords (not to the same thing) and wait for the ban to lift. Once ccp give you access to your account again, change that password as well, and you should be good to go.

I do not get a failure when logging in that my account is banned, just that my password is incorrect. I just tried to recover my password since I was wondering maybe it was a pirshing mail, and now I get this beautiful line of text:
"Доступ в игру для вашей учетной записи запрещен. Вы не можете перейти на эту страницу."
Now, that's beyond my comprehention. But, however, I've send an mail to support@eve and there's a petition open (should be on this char). Any help would be briljant (or even a reason that it was banned next to just violation of the EULA).

I'm probably going to unsub my other accounts, at least until my main is restored to me. All of my other accounts are there to support my main one way or another so there's no use in me paying if I won't be playing (wow look at that, it rhymes).
Anyway, if this is going to take way longer than 2 weeks no way in hell I'm giving money to CCP for not having access to the game. They might reimburse some time on the main account but I'm pretty sure they won't do it on the other accounts (and I don't really expect them to, either).
I'll probably give them till the end of this week and then I'll put my accounts on hibernation.

this thread is pretty damming proof of the failure to follow through by CCP representitives.
we witnessed 2 posts from a GM telling us how CCP always communicates their ban reasons, yet most of the posters cite a lack of coms and info from the GMs
If the system works so damn well why did a GM have to come into this thread to resolve CS issues and discuss bans?
and why did that take half a month?
Seriously guys, there are flashes of brilliance from the CS department but they are all tarnished by the overall failure of the CS department to do their jobs in a timely fashion or to the complete satisfaction of the customers

I am wondering, if as a certain person said "The tone and demeanor of my blog on Friday did not correctly portray my emotions towards the community and player base at large. I love and respect EVE and its community on a level that's hard to really do justice in words. However I let my frustration take charge of me, fueled by emotions that had built up due to a breach of trust we at CCP have been experiencing over the past few days. I know that sounds ironic considering those are the exact same feelings you have been having towards CCP."
A slight tangent here, I wonder if CCP would consider, as a gesture, taking a more conciliatory tone towards certain players who let off rather too much steam during those frantic few days.
Certainly nobody deserves threats and abuse just for doing their job and I can certainly understand taking the ban hammer to enforce a cool down for hot heads, but don't we all deserve a second chance when reacting in the heat of the moment? just like Arnar did and does?

I can only agree, then again I live by a philosophy that work should be enjoyable, maybe it's a luxury that I actually enjoy my rl work, dunno..
Then again, the ban hammer for cooling down hot heads? I very much disagree, that's a wrong reaction to what is going on. That would be like if you work at a service point and a customer complains that his service/product is not working and you throwing him out because you cannot handle your emotions. If I was your boss you could hit the pavement, giving a response and hearing them out is all they need 90% of the time, the other 10 is actually solving problems.
Further more, if you read a bit up, most of the people being helped (or waiting to being helped, like me! :P) are not banned for shouting at CCP or ingame to other players. They are banned and either don't know why and/or feel it's not justified while getting no reaction on their petitions or mails. This is about customer service and to be honest, CCP is slacking a bit in that department?
People ingame are saying that CCP are up to their neck in all kinds of stuff, so I can understand that petition reaction can be slow, the problem is, there is nothing being said at all. Being banned from a game with my main supporting account for 15 days and still not have a reaction with what I've actually done just seems like stupid? They don't give back lost time or skillpoints. Imagine how you would feel if it happend to you?
Anyways, still love the game, just hoping they will make it better for me again by looking into it and actually tell me what I did wrong or lemme know they made a mistake?
Yours,
Ubi
