So would you create an "alt" for a strategic cruiser so that you basically don't train other ships to waste skill points...because you'll wind up spending it all on sybsystems to be podded to spend it again on subsystems?

Dedicated alts that fly T3s are generally leadership characters with ganglinks (okay, Tengu pilots could be PvE alts/bots). Ganklink T3s rarely die tbh.
...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

If you aren't losing T3s hand over fist like this guy, you should be good having T3 skills on your main.

Most prerequisites for T3 ships are very useful to have on your main character and/or you should have them maxed anyway. The basic ship skill "(Race) Strategic Cruiser" can be ignored (unless you plan to use overloading; then it might become useful). The subsystem skills all got a 1x modificator, so level 5 will take less than 4 days with maxed attributes at default/non-remapped values. If all that keeps you away is the fear to lose skill points, just eject before it's destroyed (if ever, depending on what you're doing they can withstand quite some punch).

Actually it seems he has done quite a bit more damage than what he has lost. It looks like he basically only flies tengus and hence only looses them...but he does a lot of destruction in between. Hence in a case like this, I guess you would spend a good deal of training on Strategic Cruisers.

Most of his kills could have been pulled off with a stealth bomber. If you are losing two T3s a week ganking ratters, you are bad.
