Edited by: Ace Echo on 02/07/2011 16:31:54 Ok - I've been having some problems trying to install eve on my linux box - since my MacBook can't run eve with SM3 anymore.
I've added wine's PPA repository, installed wine 1.2, but when I then try to run the eve installer, it gives me a weird error with 'pixmap' in it a few times. I then thought that perhaps just changing to beta 1.3 would fix it, but then I get another problem: when running the installer, after about 10 seconds of install it pops up with the error 'Cannot find library: pythondll'
How have you ubuntu users successfully gotten it to work?

Ah fixed it myself.
I didn't know what dll it was missing so I just installed all the vcrun dlls... remembering seeing 'vcrun' and 'eve' on the same webpage yesterday - so went ahead and installed them all. It's installing now.

You really need to post hardware info Ace. Without that, you are spittin' in the wind for a solution.
As in: ubuntu will load on older non "Eve-capable" hardware...doesn't mean EVE will run.

I do not have a solution for you but my brand new Acer with an i5 chip and GEFORCE GT540M will not even properly install the NVIDIA drivers under Ubuntu.
I'd double check that your drivers are installed properly. But then again, I am sure you have done that already ;-)

Yeah - It's weird - I don't know if it's just a graphics problem or something else.
The only winetricks I have are the vcrun libraries, nothing else. Might I be missing something there?

First, you should check if your 3D-graphics is really working. Ubuntu had some trouble with the original nouveau module and some had to blacklist it, in order to get the binary nvidia-driver to work.
Install tuxracer or sth that needs OpenGL and run it, check framerates.
If you are sure, that your graphics driver work properly, which is NOT the case for the major part of players experiencing difficulties, then begin to tinker with eve/wine.

I hadn't seen mention of the corefonts through winetricks in this tread yet, it may not be part of the problem but unless something has changed you will need the arial font installed.
