Edited by: Mirabi Tiane on 03/07/2011 15:23:56 Either there's a very good reason for it that you haven't mentioned yet, or it's just a random derpy decision on the part of the modeler who positioned it.
Please, no jokes.
(I know neither of you can fix it yourselves, unless you have 3D skills I haven't heard about, but I assume you could ask someone who can.) |

Edited by: Oberine Noriepa on 03/07/2011 16:34:54 I don't really understand why the capsule is placed on an open balcony. Wouldn't capsuleers want some privacy? They're almost nude when inside their capsules, after all.
It would make more sense to have it designed like this:
Captain's Quarters ^ | | |->----- Capsule Room | | v Balcony
This video and other videos showing off ambulation have the capsule in its own room. It doesn't make sense to just scrap everything.

Consider for a moment that CQ and WiS is -not finished-.
Placing the pod on the balcony is probably just a short term fix until they can finish the capsule room, or the capsule room may in fact be an upgrade for 'expanded captains quarters' customization.
I tend to hope and lean toward the concept that the capsule room just wasn't finished yet, so they did not add it with the initial release, and the plans to move the pod inside it later have been there all along.
If there was no pod at all, I suspect a majority of people would be whining about "OMG HOW DID WE GO FROM SHIP TO CQ WHERE IS OUR POD?!"

Our characters have wires sticked in and out of their backs and had to undergo all kinds of horrid surgery. I don't think they would be very concerned about nudity...
And even if they were... you are in a hangar! There is no one there but you?

Moreover, a capsuleer is closely linked with the ship - the 'muscles' are the ship's thrusters and weapons, one 'feels' what the ship's sensors receive, and so on. So when flying a ship, the capsuleer is the ship, in a sense.
And I think that would definitely change someone's outlook about what is considered 'oneself' and therefore any considerations about nudity.

There would be cool if we had some sort of pod disembarking animation or something...
As for pod placement on the balcony..why not ?
The most mentioned reason that i see is Nudity. Why is nudity a problem ? In RL in last 100 years nudity in all forms and shapes and places almost stopped to be an issue... I mean 10k years in the future, where you fly spaceships and can unleash destruction comparable of whole RL modern day armies... Would you really be bothered if someone can see your "willy" or "titie" ? Baseliners can have whole calendars of you naked for all you care, they are lesser beings after all, and capsuleers are gods, and gods are beyond petty issues like that.
For me there is no real issue that there isn't pod disembarking chamber. It was on that old walking in stations promo pictures and they scrapped that ones and started again afaik, so new concept didn't included it.

Edited by: Mirabi Tiane on 04/07/2011 16:01:13 Nudity isn't the problem.
In the pod, a capsuleer floats in goo. They need an immediate shower to wash off the ectoplasm that remains on them after their pod has been drained and they've been dumped out of it. With the pod where it is, they'd be climbing those stairs and then drip-dripping their way through their "quarters" (motel room).
Maybe nanites clean them off as they leave their pod, now. That would make sense. But there's still the issue that they are probably not alone in their hangar. There's probably a standing hangar crew and maintenance tasks being performed on the ships and the hangar itself. And what if a sniper got in? Would a capsuleer ever accept that risk, however unlikely it might be? That possibility makes the entire exposed balcony ridiculous. Move the pod indoors and put a window (presumably made of something very durable but transparent) over the balcony.
Let's not forget that those stairs are made of a thin metal grate. It's probably rusty in some cases, too. The tetanus vaccine and treatment businesses must be booming. |

I think for many capsuleers nude and naked are two very different things.
You might feel naked out side of a ship even when fully clothed and not naked even when nude in your ship.

Exactly what I said. The perception of oneself would definitely shift if your're able to integrate yourself into some machinery that much that it becomes a part of your self (yourself or your self, yes, there is a slight difference in semantics).
Even more so if you're quite aware that your consciousness is just a stream of bits transferred across the galaxy if you 'die' or choose to clonejump... and that the fleshly body your 'self' inhabits may have been anything from algae goop to human corpses.
So... nothing to be ashamed of..?

This is pretty close to what happened. There was some discussion of whether the pod should appear at all, and the creative leads involved ultimately voted to have the pod show up off of the balcony. Not everyone agreed, but that's the way the ball bounced. In the future, I hope the location of the pod will be in its own clone/med bay chamber, which is how it was originally conceived. Edited by: Tarron DiValerian on 05/07/2011 16:11:58 To add another tidbit to think about, even after The Powers That Be(tm) have spoken... Nanites can do pretty much, like repairing ship hulls and manufacturing... So why not stitching the clothes onto the capsuleer's body and removing them as needed, as well as cleaning up the remains of the pod goo?
That would fit with the picture of the Noble Exchange store... One doesn't purchase the actual item which gets lost once the capsuleer has been podded, but the construction plans for the nanites to make it? :)

Thank you for the response. :) Even though you're neither Abraxas nor Dropbear, you've provided helpful insight into what happened, and also provided hope that the pod might be moved to a more appropriate location eventually. |

Also, if it's going to stay that every time we dock to pick up ammo or something, we actually move our pods out of the ship, and ourselves out of the pod, can we get some alterations to the existing fiction or new fiction to explain why this is? As it is, it's a huge mismatch with existing fiction, and hugely impairs immersion. I'm not even sure how it's possible for my character to end up in her quarters so fast, let alone why she feels the need to do that.

Much better to fix the game design to agree with the lore than to "fix" the lore to agree with the game design. |

I agree, but according to the CSM, CCP are %100 percent firm in the idea that you will be in Captain's Quarters on every single undock. So, lore it is.
I do find it ironic that Captain's Quarters has actually been the single most immersion-breaking, lore-challenging expansion yet. And it was touted as being a roleplayers dream!

So true.
"We must break immersion to create immersion!"
You know, I got spare pods I can set as active ship. What is that thing at the end of the stairs then supposed to mean?

Does this take when you are docked in just your pod, too; with regards to the balcony view. If my pod is in the med-bay, why is it floating above the balcony as well?
