So, I'm reached an impasse in my EVE career, and am thinking about running some missions. I am training to use a Noctis right now, and overall am just excited to be doing something new.
My question is simple: is salvaging time/cost effective between missions, or is it faster to just plow through the missions one after another?
Thanks, and I appreciate your responses!

Imo it's best to blitz all your missions and salvage other ppl. missions.

I run my missions with my navy domi then salvage with my noctis afterwards.can clear a level 4 site in about 10-15 minutes with the noctis.
on advice from a friend I then melt anything below meta 4 that I loot down, and sell the refined resources and salvaging. saves a lot of clutter.
would only recommend salvaging your own missions from maybe late l3, early l4. just not enough ships to make it worth your time below that. by the way, destroyers like the catalyst makes great salvage boats too while you're waiting for the noctis, which is worth its weight in gold.

Definitely worth it in Sansha/Blood missions. Armour plates and TPCs. (Armour plates used to be 320k+ each, and a mission like The Blockade usually yields 30+ of them)
Almost worth it in Angel/Drone missions for Trit bars and the Drone minerals. Depends what you're going to do with it.
Not worth it in Guristas/Serp missions. **** loot, **** salvage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Depends how long it takes you to complete missions. 15 - 45 minutes per mission, then I'd say don't salvage. Longer than that, then salvage.

i do a mission and then salvage every time......even duo of death it just breaks the time up for me and then make rigs as and when it looks like theres not a lot on sale in which ever system im in.....its not efficient in any way but i play to have fun my way not the way everyone tells you how you are supposed to play a bit like me not pvp'ing even when im told its lame that a old time player like me should only do pvp

Im doing begginer lvl 1 missions and salvaging doubles my payout basically. not on every mission is the salvage worth it but the armor plates and tripped power seem to come in batches so you have to kind of salvage everything i think. when they do come they make up for it. adds alot of valuable isk to lvl 1 missions. not to mention if you plan on making modules in the future they are good to keep i think.

I pretty much always salvage my lvl 4's, I feel its worth it, i get isk for the mission, salvage for rig construction which turns into isk, loot I reprocess for corp ship construction. I keep the meta 4 loot to fit the ships our corp makes. So salvaging is pretty handy. Probably dont make as much cause i dont blitz them, but having all the loot and salvage makes everything else possible.

This is probably the right answer, though I'd add that anything with a really, really high number of cruiser-sized missile boats is often worth salvaging/looting just to pull out a few meta 3 and maybe a meta 4 heavy/ham launcher.
Note that in this case if you're only going for one size, go for medium over large. In all other cases take large only.
Also: what the hell? Is that actually you?

Its totally worth it on 2 accounts, dunno about 1.
To expand on what others have said, its better to always rush certain missions IMHO. I.E. recon II, WC, The Assault. Cargo delivery was one but I heard that was nerfed, have not confirmed. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

If you like ISK, Noctis salvaging your missions is worth it. Can clean up Angel Extravaganza in 10 mins and come away with 10-15 mil average.

hell yeah it is. Have someone in your corp build modules or have high refining skills( our corp of five people spent about 80 mill on all blueprints for modules medium and under (tech 1)). Go put some on the market (you will be surprised how much you can charge just ebcause people are too lazy to do like 6 jumps to purchase a module of their need) and watch your money fly in.
Honestly if you are willing to put in the time and thought you can really bank on salvaging missions. Like drone missions BLOW, but their materials are usually awesome.

Edited by: Jak Silverheart on 04/07/2011 19:23:54 Personally I don't I find it not to be worth it when I'm blitzing through missions. I can generally make a lot more cash doing another mission than salvaging. So I started putting a tractor beam on a nighthawk so I loot while blasting away everything in the mission, I get the loot and no increase to mission time. So I make more money.
But in the past when my skills wern't as good it was profitable to salvage, this was the pre-noctis days.

Its not.
Maybe if you have a young alt that can fly the Noctis until its trained enough to fly a real ship and run a 2nd mission.
Salvage price nerf via multiple size rigs, mission loot nerf and then the Noctis put the final nail in the mission loot/salvage being worth the time
...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

I'm not sure that a Noctis is worth it, in terms of generating more isk than you'd get from just blitzing. I fancy marauders for looting while you pew pew, and this means no coming back later. The major downside for many is that training up to a marauder is not something you can do overnight, whereas a Noctis won't require you to sink a lot of time into training.
If you have two accounts, you can certainly use one for salvaging. Others will argue that you'd be better off having both accounts actively ploughing through missions.

Yeah I hate to admit it but isk/hour way I'm starting to think maurauders may be one of the better ones with the ability to tractor and salvage while still killing everything. I know my income from missions increased when I equiped that tractor beam on the nighthawk and started looting. Would have been nice if I could have crammed a salvager in there as well.

Why wouldn't you just run another mission on that 2nd account?
2x Mission is worth much more than 1x Mission + 1x Salvage in the same amount of time.

I started running level 4 missions. I find it makes the mission much more profitable if you do loot and salvage. For me, I run my looting and salvage operation simultaneously with two characters. Hasn't proven too profitable for me, but then again, I've only been doing it for a couple days. Confucius say... If you aren't a drone pilot, I'd say no. But I do l4s the lazy/easy way. I just send the drones out of my Dominix, then fly around with tractor beams and salvagers in the high slots as my drones clear out the area. Obviously, if you have gunnery skills, you can crank out more dps and get through the missions faster, but I don't and I like money.

1a) Do you make money salvaging? Yes.
1b) Do you make as much salvaging as you do running another mission? No.
2a) Does having a 2nd account make more money? Yes.
2b) Does having a 2nd account to salvage make as much as running a 2nd mission simultaneously? No.

I dunno, it seems to me that around 8 months ago salvage got nerfed and we started getting metal scrap crap a lot. Then more recently, salvage seemed to get even worse with the upgrade before Incarna.
Now with Incarna, I just don't care anymore.
But yeah, you need two accounts to make salvage uh, fast anyway.
Used my Noctis for a while, parked it, might start using it in wormholes.

Im pretty sure if your flying a high DPS ship like a Mach in LvL 4's then blitzing is definatley better isk/hr than salvaging. Even if you have 2 accounts and you plan on using one for salvaging on the go it would be best to use it as a second missioner, ya know, run 2 missions at once --------------------------------------------------

2x Mission is worth much more than 1x Mission + 1x Salvage in the same amount of time.
People act like they can run 2 missions as efficiently as 1. No, I wouldn't. Its twice as much work for less than twice as much money. I would rather salvage .
Look at it like WC3 and break it down into actions per minute.
Running a mission say 100 APM. Salvaging 40 APM.
Salvaging plus mission = 140 APM. Mission + Mission = 200 APM.
But you get diminishing returns on the missions if you cant keep up with the micro, which if you are human and not a bot you will.

This is such a loaded question it is hard to say. It all depends on how fast you can do one vs the other.
For example, I am really new to 4's. I kind of rushed into a Dominix (it wasnt in my plan but I changed things up anyhow). So since I have it I thought I would try lvl 4's. I have high drone skills so I don't do too bad. The isk/hr is still better than lvl 3's it seems.
So I ran Blockade over the weekend. It took me maybe 45min to complete. It was 22mil in mission+bonus+ bounties. It took me 7 minutes to salvage with a noctis, and generated an additional 9 mil in salvage + loot.
So at my level I generated close to 30% more isk from that mission in a fraction of the time it took me to run it.
Now as my skills progress, if I can run the same mission in say 15 minutes, now I would be better off running it quickly twice.
So there really isnt a hard and fast answer. Also, it depends on what you enjoy. I actually enjoy running my noctis to see how fast and efficiently I can salvage. It breaks up the mission feeling. also, when i ran lvl 3's i would blitz through 4-5 missions then salvage them all at once.

Edited by: Borun Tal on 11/07/2011 18:06:11 I've mentioned this before, but I earn enough isk for plex every month from drops *alone* to pay for my accounts. Doesn't include bounty, salvage, or LP cash-ins, this is L4 drops only. I use the salvage to build T1 rigs to increase the bottom line even further. And no, I don't grind for hours on end. I have a life.
Edit: I use an alt with max Noctis to clean up the messes I make.

Good answer Derath.
If you want to run missions and don't want to go back with your main in a salvager or use an alt to salvage, hire a salvager. They are usually available and you can make some extra money for yourself (and help out younger players) by running L4s with a salvager in a noctis following behind.
