During missions we occasionally come across "parked" ships, mainly t1 industrials. It would be great if we could actually capture these ships by having a trained pilot come retrieve them. If this can't be allowed then how about being able to salvage the ships? As they sometimes drop loot when popped.
Station structures in the missions would be great for salvaging but due to their size would require a larger ship to handle the salvage and loot. Perhaps a orca or it's larger sister ship can be modified as such a salvager type ship. It could have the same size holds but instead of geared for mining it is a salvage base / command ship. +1 on the boarding and capture idea.
Boarding pilot would need specific skill trained to lvl5 (if it were easy, everyone would do it)

I agree it capturing the ship should be skill based with a chance of the ship self destructing in the process. Level one is good for low end ships, and level 5 for high end ships. The skill can be called ship acquisition. Where each level grants a percentage of successful capture. Say between 10 to 15 percent per level. If you have a ship capable of transporting the ship then it would require another skill called remote ship acquisition. that has similar attributes. As for skill points earned, I'll let someone else figure that one.
I would like to at least see those static ships be turned in to wrecks after being destroyed. So that they can be salvaged.

You are aware that some missions have idle Caracal Navy Issues and Nalfgar dreadnoughts sitting in them... right??
With your idea this mean we get to have free multi-tens-of-millions to billion ISK ships essentially for... FREE???
The idea appeals to me (hey, who doesn't want a free dred or faction cruiser)... but I shudder to think how how this might affect the market overall. People would be farming missions (more than they are now) for said ships. |

I can understand your desire to reach out and take the NPC ship that's just sitting there, the same way you could if it were an abandoned player ship, but no, just no.
It doesn't add anything really. After you get the ship home it's just extra loot. Game mechanic wise it's the same as blowing up the parked Bestower, and finding a jet can with a Bestower (WTF? okay something the same value as a Bestower) in it, except more programming involved.
Let's just say that when NPCs park their cars they remember the lock the doors such that you in your tank could easily blast or crush it, but picking the lock's impractical. |

c Unless of course you had a handy dandy hacking device. Then once you cleared the room, you can usit to unlock the ship and make off with it. Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up!"

kinda hard to steal a ship that doesn't have the right hardware to link to a pod.
For all intents and purposes the ships work like so:
- NPC ships = "normal" crew compliment, and don't have any way to hook up a pod.
- T1 ships = ships that have been retrofitted from "NPC Standard" (which is why they all have histories with their owning faction)
- Pirate/Faction = "better than normal" retrofits of the T1 ships
- T2 ships = ships that are built for use by capsuleers (i.e. they're not retrofits
- T3 ships = even better pilot/pod integration than T2
least that's my take from snippets of lore/backstory/chronicles. =========================

I still feel they should show up as npc ships the same way the mission npcs do and they should be destructable(which they are), lootable(some are on a great occasion), and salvagable(they never are).
They're a ship. Reguardless of whether they're parked or not they should be treated as such and fall into the same category as every other ship in the game.

There is great possibility these ships are not capsule ships, so capturing them is impossible. But nice idea BTW. Armor shatters; Raven`s shadow obscures my sight; Capsule cracks. - Khanid Death Poem. |
