Will it be WoW with fangs or more complex/challenging than traditional grind n spiders?
Will it be subscription based or f2p/p2w?
Will it be conflict based/sandbox like EvE or much more like typical structured linear mmos?
Assuming we don't know much, any fans of the WW IP let on what they think would work well? Speculate as to what CCP is likely to go with?

Extra: I like the camera angles and general psuedo-first person or third person views in Incarna and I'd hope to see a gritty Deus Ex type game environment but I suspect it will have to be isometric to function well.
Also pvp .. how is that going to work? I'd hate to see it just be crap area effect and point n' own like standard fantasy mmos.

Who cares what World of Twilight will be like or what we know about it. It'll probably end up getting its arse kicked by Guild Wars 2 anyways. ----

Well it depends on how its designed doesn't it? I'm not sure how they're going to do it - which is why I am asking. I'm hoping it will be complex sandbox stuff like EvE but I'm not sure if there's a market for that kind of complexity. Or maybe there is; WW has a dedicated fanbase and most RP'ers are above average IQ and enjoy the same kind of challenges speccy nerds do.

We don't know jack ****. That's unfortunately the short answer.
All I'm aware of is a tech demo of the cloth effects. Hot girl in a neat dress poses a bit and walks over some stairs so you see how the hair and cloth move. Looked pretty good. The reveal video was just a fast slideshow of concept art...
Hard to know more without looking into the source material for yourself.

I think they'll release DUST before they release world of twilight. Imagine the ****storm it would cause and people shouting from the roof tops, "this is why EVE doesn't have X, or this is why you've done Y! What about dust??!?!?!?!" and so on.. gothika you hit my -10 list for comparing world of darkness to twilight.
Go down to a game store, pick up a vampire the masquerade book at read it.
WORLD OF DARKNESS is ****ed up more than some of the eve chronicles, most of world of darkness is methods of torture level. see while twilight is all sparkly and love stories, world of darkness include many references to Caine the son of adam, Rasputin. This is a game where people slit each others throats for the lulz, and the only way to advance in the world is to kill the guy in front of you.
flesh eaters
There is one vampire clan called the Tzimisce - flesh crafters they purposely kill people and mangle their dead bodies into horrific creatures that only know how to kill.
Tzimisce
Now CCP has stated that WOD is pre-gahenna so it would be vampire the masquerade. So looking at all 15 vampire clans, hunters and werewolves. The grand masquerade is in sept so more should be known about it then. But last year they said it would be more politics in the initial release with huge pvp.
Also, if you watch those links, there is not anything sparkley about WoD. Rest assured that anyone who makes a character named edward, bella, or anything related to twilight, can and will be ganked, griefed, scammed, out of game.

What's your source for that? Or just speculating? I'm not so sure myself - as that kind of business model just does not work in a sandbox. It encourages short participation spans based on high spend and drop off in interest ie. player churn. That doesn't compliment 'interaction and politics' at all.
My guess is that if it will be f2p and MT based it will be shallow and accessible. I'd be surprised if ccp produced a game that was like that - ever - tbh. Games like that don't last 8 years do they?
For a complex mmo you need a subscription and real time skill training imho. MT can play a part but I don't think you can base a sandbox on MT, it has to be about resource monopoly which requires, by implication, long term commitment from players. I guess we'll have to see what the future brings.

Edited by: Tara Moss on 06/07/2011 10:13:47 I have a strong suspicion Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is indicative of the kind of world CCP is aiming to create -namely Gothic, sexy with a healhy dose of horror and a black sense of humour.
With this in mind, my two concerns are:
> CCP does not do 'sexy' very well -characters & clothing in Eve are pretty ugly > Story telling is not CCP's strong point
As for PvP/PvE content etc...it's a bit too early to tell.
Edit: I really hope WoD is a success because Dust sure as hell won't be. Besides the Goth/Vampire genre is pretty under-represented.

Well given White Wolf is the creator of the WoD game universe(s) I should hope that the WW part of CCP will be in charge of the setting and the storytelling. The Atlanta team know their own products a hell of a lot better than the Icelandic side would so we'll see who gets to call those particular shots.
The F2P-MT model is a huge turn-off for me though; pity as I like the oWoD setting. |

I do believe you are hitting on me with that line, are you the girl they talk about on all the men's room walls, daughter of Janus.
Malcanis - that is going to be a huge debate and debocle. EvE is the flagship and test game for CCP and MT aren't being received too well here, however that maybe different for WoD.
However that being said, WoD still is property of Whitewolf, and all development and marketing lies with them, so it will be a toss up. However even if they did it would most likely be vanity only.
now for the subject of PVP.
If anyone who has played WoD games, you know you just can't gank anyone, especially in public places. So you will have your safe areas where there is no pvp, and then everything else which is free game. However killing someone in WoD has reprocussions, loss of humanity, loss of masquerade points, and are subject to being arrested by non vampire law, aka the police. So most pvp in WoD is going to be covert, back alley, back stabbing set ups, no real brawls or anything like that, however bar fights seem likely.

I played a lot of table top WoD back from the mid 90s, up till 2001.
I've played a number of table top games over the years (D&D, Traveller, Harn, Morrow Project, Paranoia (best game concept EVER...), Twilight 2000, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Rifts, etc.... and WoD)
Of all of them, WoD had, by FAR, the best back story (although Traveller will always have a special place in my heart....)
Having said the above, I seriously doubt the back story will play a significant role in the on-line game. On-line role play is a pale shadow of 'good' table top role play games.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Last year at the Grand Masquerade, White Wolf stated that WOD would be pre-Gehenna, so it would be original Vampire the Masquerade. So none of this Requiem crap. |

Would it still include those turncout vampires, Tremere working for Brujah and so on and so forth? Which is minmaxing at its worst, just picking what attributes you want then siding with someone else entirely... |

Traveller was great, I read somewhere that the devs where inspired by it as part of the initial creation of Eve online.
I was always a sci-fi / cyberpunk / D&D Pnp fan..
Paranoia was indeed a laugh a minute.. *think happy thoughts or die*..
I know a few people that used to play masquerade and they are pretty serious (see scary) roleplayers..
I don't know the idea of a dark twisted world where the main goal is to roleplay and slit peoples throats would be a difficult world to create and at the same time so worthy of creation.

So pre-Gehenna, which clans are included there? Brujah i hope :)
Rerally loved playing VTM:B when it came out, the haunted hotel area scared me witless!
I also think PVP will be done in the shadows or safe areas maybe.
I am also curious if there will be any corps/clans beyond your own background?

Gosh, Paranoia. I vaguely remember that from the 70s or early 80s. Utterly bonkers but brilliant.
I played a lot of Traveller and tried the updated version but, somehow, the original version was better. Though I do remember the character rolling was flawed; oh look, I have got yet another vice-admiral of the fleet...
The game I loved most of all was the Play By Mail monster, SuperNova II.
