I only noticed this the other day but I haven't seen anybody else say it. Is it just me or does your ship look massive from the couch but slightly smaller up close?
Maybe itÆs a bug maybe itÆs some optical allusion, just bugs me a bit.

Optical illusion caused by not having any real depth cues when all you're looking at is the ship, compared to when it's in the background and you can compare it to the doorway or balcony arches. Also, your bran has no concept of how large the ship or the hangar is, so it extrapolates freely from anything it can get its hands on.
If you hold up a ruler or something similar to the screen as you move forward, you'll notice that it actually stays the same size (or becomes a little larger) as you move closer, depending on the ship and the resolution.
Ask yourself, if you were standing 1-2km away from an oil tanker and moved 30m closer, how much larger would the tanker look, and would you, just by looking at the tanker, notice that you've moved closer at all? Those are roughly the scales and distances we're talking about for a cruiser/BC-sized ship. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

The part I noticed straight away that I didn't like was that in a Minmatar station, if you look straight down from the balcony, those little glowing orange squares are TINY, they are the same lights seen on the ships, and I had always assumed those lights on ships where supposed to be windows?
If they are then either they are ridiculously small... Or the character is a giant.. Eitehr way, it just looks wrong to me :|

I believe it is actually a similar effect to the "dolly shot" they use in movies.

The ship sits in the skybox. The skybox is stationary in relationship to the character, so is always the same distance from you.

It's an optical illusion just like when you look at the moon. When the moon is high in the sky and far from the horizon (i.e. trees and such) it looks smaller. When it is rising just on the horizon it looks bigger due to the relative size of the stuff in front of it on the Earth.

your ship is A) huge and B) quite a long way away. bear in mind that even a frigate is the size of a jet airliner and seen from about a hundred and fifty meters away or so. A battleship or freighter that's hovering about two or three thousand meters away isn't going to change its apparent size much in the space of the twenty meters or so between the couch and the balcony railing.
If you live in a city with a large landmark structure that dominates the skyline, try standing a mile or so from it, walk fifty paces towards it, then look again. The landmark won't be much larger, but nearby park benches, street lamps, dogs or parked cars will have dramatically changed their apparent size as you move.
same principle applies with CQ. it's just the unusual juxtaposition of such a familiar-sized thing as a couch next to a monstrously, incomprehensibly large thing like a battleship, and the fact that there are no intervening landmarks for reference, that might catch you off-guard. -

It's a pretty substantial size difference which I think they will fix with the next major content patch. It is clearly not scaling properly as my shuttle looks to be the size of a small planet when I am standing in the doorway of my CQ, and then shrinks to the size of a ... well a shuttle, when I reach the end of the hangar deck,

It's not so much about the scale, but the position.
They seem to reposition the ship away from the balcony, the closer you get. So from the CQ interior it looks too big and too close to the balcony. When you're on the balcony some ships look too big, because they are closer than they should.
I think the whole viewpoint repositioning needs a rework and the current situation can be considered as bug. Better scrap the repositioning and have all ships on the same position, which should render shuttles much smaller than battleships.

It's as though the hangars were designed by Father Dougal
Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These [he points to some plastic cows on the table] Father Ted: are very small; those [pointing at some cows out of the window] Father Ted: are far away...

actually what I see is that the ship is always the same distance (and scale) from your toon. it does not change, it moves with you keeping the same distance.
the motion you see and the scaling are all due to points of reference (or the lack thereof) and the motion of the background.
the moon looks bigger on the horizon because of visual references to its scale being seen on the horizon, like trees or buildings. Up in the sky it is still the same size but appears smaller due to a lack of references
