I have been checking out the explorer path in EVE. I like the idea and I enjoy hunting things down with probes. but what I find is to much for my n00b skillz to handel. So far I have found..
in 1.0 space - an unstable worm hole O.o and my first jump inside the USWH got me one shotted by something call a sleeper. then in .6 space a dozen bloodraider cruisers and maybe 2 dozen frigs that freed my pod from my frig before i could align.
So I've googled and read the "how to" explore, but could someone point me in the direction as to WHAT i should be exploring in a frig with one month of sp? or should I go back to mission running?

The exploration resource thread will give you a few links, I liked this one, alot of the stuff you find in the stickied links are older/not quite upto date but the basic info is there.

Edited by: Sam Redshift on 06/07/2011 20:31:32 Annabell, I recommend NP Crusaider's Exploration Almanac as an excellent introduction into exploration. It is a 14 days exploration crash course for new Eve characters. I personally really enjoyed the reading. NPC recommends to focus on radar for ISK making during skilling up for exploration.
Check it out: http://explorationalmanac.blogspot.com/2010/06/preface.html

Normally the stuff you find in highsec shouldn't be too hard, you're actually kind of lucky to have found a wormhole on your first try, but it'll be a while before you wanna go into those.

Shouldn't take much longer than a couple of days to train up for a cruiser that can do most of the sites in highsec. (except the ones that wont let anything above destroyers in of course)
A drone cruiser like the arbitrator/vexor are generally best, as you are then free to use the slots for salvagers/probe launchers/hackers/analyzers etc.

1) Cosmic Anomalies are simple sites that are fairly easy to run. They are also easy to find (with just the Directional Scan), but are mostly ignored because of their low value.
2) Cosmic Signature - Unknown are combat sites. These are probably going to be to difficult to complete on your own at this time.
Note that they can also be wormholes. Stay out of them. Sleepers will devour you. (They are intended to be threats to high-level players)
3) Cosmic Signature - Radar are hacking sites. You need a Codebreaker module and the Hacking skill. These are highly valuable sites with weaker NPC pirates. You should be able to clear the sites you find from 1.0 - 0.7 security space.
In these sites you will find items in space with the storage container icon (diamond). You must target the cans and activate the Codebreaker module on each item before you can open it.
Notes: Sometimes on trying to open a can more NPC rats will spawn. Do not panic, they will generally not be more difficult than the original rats, and in fewer numbers.
DO NOT WARP OFF ONCE YOU HAVE USED THE CODEBREAKER MODULE OR THE SITE WILL DESPAWN IMMEDIATELY.
Even in hisec space, you can make 5-10 million a site. Look for items that are Reports, Procedures and other documents.
3) Cosmic Signature - Gravimetric. These are higher value asteroid belts than those you can normally warp too. With a month-old character, there's very little direct value to these, but you may be able to sell the sites to mining characters for a few million a piece.
Just be aware that if you do try to mine the sites, they don't despawn like Radar sites, and there are throwaway NPC rats that spawn infrequently.
4) Cosmic Signature - Magnetometric. These sites are like Radar sites, but are worth a lot less. You will need Salvagers and Analyzers to open the containers in this site. These require the Salvaging and Archaeology (sp) skills respectively.
As a new character, these may be worthwhile to run.
5) Cosmic Signature - Ladar. These are gas cloud sites. I've never found one, so I have no first-hand knowledge of these. You need specialized skills to use these (Gas Cloud Harvesting) as well as specialized Gas mining equipment.
If you find one in 15 jumps of Dodixie, please let me know, I want to run at least one.
I think that's all of them. I miss anything?

Just a clarification. Combat sites come in two different forms.
1) DED complexes, they are one shot complexes which once completed drop some faction stuff. You recognize them because when you warp to them you get a popup with some text and ending in "DED rating: x/10".
2) Escalation sites. Those are still combat sites, usually easier than DED complexes. They don't usually drop much, but when you complete them you have the change to get an escalation, i.e. being sent to a more diffucult combat site, somewhere else, including systems with a different security rating. The new site could escalate again, up to five escalation levels (or so I hear), and the last level could drop some very juicy stuff. However it is usually believed (still from hearsay) that the effort to travel among a wide range of systems, combined with the chance to not be escalated up to the last level does not justify the possible drop in the last complex. I wouldn't know as I have not much experience in escalation complexes. Too chance-based for my tastes.
Also, cosmic anomalies have a small chance to trigger an escalation.

Most combat complexes will have a DED rating which affects the difficulty and class of ship you can bring. In a frigate, DED 1/10 and 2/10 should be doable. Anything above that is designed for cruisers and up.
A good quick money maker are the radar sites. These are clearable in a frig, just be sure to fit a hacking device so you can loot the cans.
Stay out of wormholes for awhile. You'll need at least a battlecruiser for the easiest ones, C1's, you'll need more than one person for C2 and up. Plus it's 0.0 space, there can be warp bubbles and gankers. Most easy wormholes with high sec entrances will be occupied.

DED 1/10 and 2/10 are static plexes, you can find them on your universe map. With exploration you should find only DED 3/10 and above.

Edited by: Zey Nadar on 08/07/2011 07:33:42 The bottom line is, you will need some kind of combat ship to clear the rats from the exploration sites, although in highsec the sites are pretty easy frigs and cruisers. All the sites will have some rats protecting them. At first I would recommend you concentrating on radar sites, they can offer some lucrative items to sell in the market in highsec. You will need to be able to use the module "codebreaker I" to hack into the special containers.
I recommend you steer clear of wormholes, as sleepers are tough and sometimes wormholes have even tougher players who will kill you.
Learn toward a battlecruiser or such. Your ultimate goal as an explorer could be a tech 3 ship such as tengu. |

You won't find Ladars around Dodixie. Ladars only appear in specific regions and the combat Ladars are only found in Low and Null from my experience.
If you're in Dodixie, Lonetrek, Solitude and Aridia and Molten Heath are the closest places you'll find gas.
Lonetrek has Golden gas (I think) Solitude has Celadon gas Molten Heath has Azure gas Aridia has Malachite gas
Combat Ladars range from the common Chemical Labs which I've seen drop T1 Gas Harvesters, drug related implants, Synth reactions and skills.
The real Ladar combat sites are the low sec Distribution Base and the Production Bases in Null Sec. These drop Standard and above reactions, BPCs, skills and some very questionable things. These sites are also some of the hardest sites to scan so you will probably need something stronger than a scanning frig + rigs + Sister equipment.
Cloud sites are more common and from my living in low sec, I've seen 3 types.
The high sec nebula which has about 1000 units of Myko gas (used only in Synth drugs). The uber high sec nebula which has 3 clouds of 1000 Myko. The Lowsec nebula which tends to have 500 units of cyto which is used for standard drugs. I have seen some of these sites have more than just 500, though.
I haven't harvested gas in null sec because unless its blue space or you know of a wormhole to a system with a cloud, its usually not worth risking. Nullsec clouds are also apparently defended as well with hazards.
Since gas is dependent on regions, it makes getting some gas a little difficult. Namely Amber, Vermilion and Viridian which are only available in Nullsec |
