Now our Japanese fellows can play this wonderful game in Japanish!
Well, that's a good thing, but that's not what I've put up this topic to talk about.
The company CCP's got help with launching EVE in Japan is Nexon, a Korean corporation, maybe one of the biggest gaming companies in South Korea. Nexon is famous for several games, such as Maple Story (a casual 2D sidescrolling MMORPG).
Now why would CCP leave all the Japanese gaming companies and work with a Korean corporation for a project for launching EVE in Japan?
Nexon is very infamous in adapting MT systems into their games. Probably the best in the world. As a Korean gamer I can tell you this because I've seen 3, 4 games by Nexon that started off as a great free-to-play or subscription game, but came down to its knees because it was later plagued with MT's.
Nexon is the corporation that set the benchmark for the Korean gaming environment to be so filled with MT's. Ask about Nexon to any Korean hardcore gamer: you probably won't get good replies.
I'm starting to see a connection here..
.
I know about the CSM conference, and that there probably isn't anything to worry about, but I'm not feeling that good about CCP holding hands with Nexon.
Probably just a conspiracy, but not something with absolutely no credibility.

NEXON is also responsible for the game "Combat Arms"...quite possibly the most hack filled pile of garbage on the planet, it was long postulated that not only did NEXON ignore the hackers, they actively encouraged them so as to fill their player base.
Anything NEXON touches in utter poo, they have an absolutely horrible reputation...only very bad things will come from this.

Hi CCP
As a Japanese player, it's nice to hear EVE is coming to Japan
Right now the Japanese community seems to be concerned about the payment method. Are there going to be any changes? Are we forced to pay through NEXON from this Autumn? Or can we just pay directly to CCP like we are doing now, may be if we don't bother to use the localized client?
I personally, don't want NEXON to have any of my personal information, so if we are forced to get involved with that company, well, I guess I can't accept it

I can understand that CCP first wants to inform the press and have them the big headlines, that is all fine. But hopefully they will post also some announcement here on the forum later on.
To me it looks like two independent news parts:
1) Japanese localisation of the EVE client. Available for all and everyone who plays EVE, just like the german and russian localisations. (CCP is increasing efforts for the japanese market. If you look at the jobs CCP has to offer, you will see that they are also searching for japanese speaking gamemasters.)
2) CCP working together with Nexon to promote EVE. |

The other article from famous Japanese online game information site. All written in Japanese, use Google translate or something to read.
They said NEXON version will have "Micro Transaction", along with monthly subscription.
Personally I don't like that company. I've been heard that they work on a lot of MT (P2W type of course) based MMO. The article also says Japanese player connect to TQ from thier Japanese client.
As the Japanese player, I'd like CCP to clarify few thing;
1) Will existing Japanese player continue to use CCP services directly, as is now? - Not force to change to NEXON one.
2) Does NEXON EVE have non-vanity type of MT ? - think that would have very big impact to EVE since they connect to TQ. Also, NEXON has thier own virtual currency which seems to be traded on RMT market a lot. Do you introduce other virual currency than AUR?

Maybe because CCP is failing again and again with communicating with their player base. Sure it is good to inform the news media, but it would be really nice if they could manage to directly inform us too. With no blogs, the only thing we get is this second-hand information which leads to an aweful lot of "tinfoilhattery".

Briljant marketing , create a market yet keep the promice. " hey, its not on your client, we kept our word!"
People also want the upgrades, creating a -black- market, People will scream bloody murder.. Demanding these items on there client also.
Ccp caves in ( lol ) and give the people the p2w items they want.
**** what a scam, bows.. Briljant!

It's pretty clear in the announce. Quote: EVE Online will be added to the ever-expanding portfolio of titles available through Nexon's portal site, utilizing Nexon's billing system
If you want the japanese version you will have to use Nexon system.
I just don't understand why they need Nexon for a japanese version if it's on the same server.

Any idea if there will be a own server for Korean/Japanese players? So this wont have any effect on TQ at all? Because such a model would work in that part of the world. Nothing against players from that part of the world, but they sort of got another culture when it comes to mmos and gaming than we do here in the west.

What would be really interesting and keep EvE going is if the wormhole was re-opened to Old Earth and Old Earth came looking for us in New Eden. Of course there would be empires that would gladly except the renunion of Old Earth and New Eden...but then there would be the empires who would revolt not wanting to be part of the Old Earth New Eden Alliance thus causing a whole new chapter in New Eden to emerge.

I'm worried about the prejudice that all Japanese player uses this -black- market, if NEXON EVE is online with TQ. It's very sad for the existing Japanese player.
BTW, I don't buy any $1000 jeans in Japan. Most of Japanese don't. That wording make me feel uncomfortable, really.

Hmm, I don't think it's clear enough for me.
I would like to know what exactly happens to existing Japanese players. At some point we are forced to get a NEXON ID or something?
Although a localized client is nice, I would rather play EVE in English if it's necessary to go through NEXON, and rather quit EVE if there is no way for a resident of Japan to avoid NEXON

Eeeks.... Nexon. I used to play their game Combat Arms quite a bit before it was taken over by hackers. They didn't seem to want to do too much about hackers in the game, and in my opinion, were more focused one getting people to buy NX (like our Aurum) instead of stopping the hacking.
Only other game I played of theirs is Kart Rider when it was in Beta, but for some reason, they pulled it off the North American market and haven't brought it back. That was a pretty fun game.
There is one thing about Nexon though, you can earn their NX by doing surveys, or product trials and stuff like that, and get rewarded NX for participating. It's completely optional though.
Oh yeah, and their NX priced items are no way near as far fetched as CCPs idea of NEX items, lol. Can get a permanent gun in Combat Arms for only about $20.

Nonsense! You can access the german and russian localised version as easily as you will be able to access the japanese version. Just press ESC in your EVE-Client, go to the languages section and choose english, german, russian or in future japanese.
It is like when they added EVE to Steam. No one was forced to use Steam. It was just an additional service and to get a bit more popular. Same now.

They don't and they won't. No idea why you think they need Nexon for the localised version. CCP will be working together with Nexon because they think it opens up the japanese market better. |

I don't know who Nexon are but in this instance they seem more like a PR firm for EVE then and in that sense a strategic partner but not a developement partner.
Its probably better to let a japanese/korean firm manage that part of the community because its a totally different culture and language. Promoting the game through NeXon sure doesn't sound like a bad way to get exposure in a very active market.
Its something to keep an eye on though in terms of what kind of players will flow into eve. But EVE is a complex and hard game and the people that are attracted to EVE and keep playing do so because of the sandbox, and not in spite of it.

Edited by: Aethlyn on 07/07/2011 09:34:40 I'll just quote myself from the other thread...
Quote: I don't have ny worries here. Almost all MMORPGs expanding to the east somehow adjust their payment/subscription models for those regions but I haven't seen any combining free2play/pay2win. Honestly, I'm really sick of all those threads trying to fan fear, getting people to unsub, etc.
In general, most tend to adapt a "pay per minute" or "pay per hour" model for eastern expansions rather than "pay per month". And that's about it. It's a lot easier to implement for them. They don't have to balance the game around that, no new items or modifications, etc. Why should they "reinvent" the game economy for an expansion that might fail due to other games (maybe even some we don't play/know over here)?
Honestly, please stop that stupid "let's create rumors how they'll screw us". It's getting old - very, very old. I have fun in the game right now, so I play the game. If they ever decide to include stuff I don't like (e.g. micro transactions of ships or skills), I can still quit. It's not like the time before would be wasted (or not). I play the game to have fun, not as some kind of investment. If I'd like to do investments and win money I'd talk to my banker.
Also, why shouldn't they try to cooperate with some company that already got experience in that market? E.g. they don't have to hire translators, they don't have to hire lawyers and accountants familiar with the laws over there, etc. Such partnerships aren't that uncommon, even in the gaming world. Most often we don't even notice them as it's not like they're telling you on US/EU retail boxes and such. Just think about it. Also why should they change the western market/platform to gain something for the eastern one? They don't need an item mall or whatever, just read my quote above again, if you're looking for explanations/alternatives to this.
