I was just doing a mission earlier when a ninja salvager appears, first time it's happened to me. Anyway i don't mind that i wasn't going to salvage anyway, but when he first arrived he was neutral to me, then after a short while he turned red, was this some kind of trick into making me attack him or something? I just ignored him but I'm wondering what he was upto.

Sounds like he looted one of your wrecks. You could have attacked him, but he would have been able to shoot back without CONCORD interfering.

While many ninjas are indeed there for the salvage (note, salvage, not loot); quite a few are really PVPers who are really doing just another version of can flipping. The former are fun to play with if you're in a Noctis (they can't tractor, you can); and the latter get really annoyed when you ignore them.

You probably did the right thing.
Yes, he probably wanted you to attack him, so he could come back with his shiny PvP boat and blow you to bits.

A buddy of mine ran into a salvager for the first time ever in his faction fitted megathron. he decided to shoot on the salvager when he turned red. So after he shot him a roqual ( i think, i don't remember all the details of the story) came in with a couple of guys and locked him and gave him an ultimatum, pay up or be destroyed. There was one guy outside of his ship in a capsule waiting for him to leave his ship (just in case) and my budy told them to **** off. They blew up his ship and he was a sad panda.
Lesson here? Only shoot if you can replace.

I'm sorry, but the image of a Rorqual warping into a mission and 'acting tough' with a couple of body guards is too hilarious. ---------------

I'd be interested to see this hi-sec rorqual.

spawn everything and warp off. I had a ninja complaining in local that he almost lost his catalyst and I was being mean as he was a noob and the salvage didn't belong to anyone.. its also fun to watch them try and salvage when you tractor in a noctis. But it does sound like your ninja had other more devious plans, in which case just leave them and broadcast in local what they are up to.. that will get them all excited.. I normally also throw in some kill board links

Thought the salvager's corpmates (presumably) wouldn't have kill rights on the Megathron if the salvager originally commited the theft and was retaliated against. The Mega's corp, however, would have kill rights on the salvager.

I did alot of lvl 4s in a Raven and never got bothered, buts as soon as i upgraded into a CNR i get people nosin around about once a week or so. They come in something small(buzzard, cheetah), turn red and orbit me for about 10 minutes, then leave. Sometimes tey target me, sometimes not. Just ignore them, and put your drone on passive, just to be safe. |

Fit a web and scram, and shoot them. Make sure you have a few safespots in the system, or do a logoffski in a safe after you've popped them. Mission in something cheap with a huge sig so they can scan you easily, or use heavy drones, or even both. Domi or Ishtar works well... |

You meant the aggression timer, right? Once you aggress someone in a player corp, you're a red flashy to the whole corp for the 15 minute duration(this, of course, trumps fleet mechanics, as fleeted non-corpmates won't be able to shoot someone who aggressed you).
If you actually did mean kill rights, then the 15-minute timer still applies to the corp, but only the player whose ship you destroyed will actually have kill rights on you. It's commonly used in can-flipping too. Flip a miner's can, they shoot at you, now your 15 corpmates in local can come blow him to bits.

The misconceptions in this thread are pretty hilarious. Lots of chest beating and few facts. As a former ninja and ganker with dozens of mission runner killmails, let me share a few choice pieces of wisdom.
- Ninjas loot cans to get *aggro* - not kill rights. they can only get this if you shoot them. So if you don't want to fight, don't shoot. - it wasn't a rorqual that came into your friend's mission, it was an orca. These are the ninja Swiss army knife. In addition to scanning and bait ships, they can carry a ship up to BC size. Sleipnir come out of nowhere after you shot that Worm? Now you know. - kill rights are only given when you are shot illegitimately, like in lowsec or a suicide gank. No kill rights are exchanged in your average ninja/MR confrontation. So you can't shoot them later for free. - if you happen to kill a ninja's ship, you cannot pod them. Whoever suggested this is dumb as a brick. - any active tanked ship is likely to die to a ninja. Expect to be neuted, hard. I used to fit two heavy neuts on my typhoon for ganking. Even faction fit ships will go down quickly to that. Even your average cane/sleipnir gank ship will outlast you. - you DO NOT incur whole corp aggro by shooting one guy who stole from you. You WILL incur it if you take something from his can. (don't do this.) -fitting a web and scram doesn't automagically make you a pwn machine. It just takes useful slots away. Pve mods for pve. If you want to pvp, dock and switch. - throwing killboard links into local is like blood in the water to sharks. It's just chest beating. You're a wuss to a ninja until you prove otherwise. KB links are worthless and just make you look silly.
Want to kill a ninja? Be prepared. Set a trap. Bring friends. One of the trade secrets of ninjas in general is that they are actually quite cowardly. I was one. They despise and disparage 'real' pvp. They don't want to embarrass themselves by dying to you. Also some of their ships are quite expensive. I used to fly with faction tanking gear and domination points (150 mil by itself). Arden elenduil, formerly of suddenly ninjas, flew a 6 bil isk Loki at one point, built specifically to kill MRs. so bring more (competent) people to the party and you win. Fly with idiots and you will lose to a combination of powerful ships and RR buddies.
If you happen to lose a ship, don't cry about. And never, ever pay a ransom in high sec. There is zero incentive to keep it since you will in all likelihood never see that particular ninja again.
Any questions?

Good trap in a populated ninja system:
Get damsel in distress Wait to blow pleasure gardens until ninja ship arrives Laugh
Got 2 this way screwing around in motsu once.

I fit a remote Repper and "tag" them. They get lit up by the NPC's in the mission. Ninja tears are tastey.

Fit remote rep, target aggressor, rep aggressor, aggressor fires on you, BLAM! CONCORDOKEN for the both of you.
EVE basic NPC have stupidier AI then EQ1 circa 1999, at least they swapped to the clerics when they cast Cheal. EVE shows that people try way to hard to ruin someone's day, just have to fire on them instead of posting dumb crap like repping random people in throw away ships.
Best way to deal with people in the lolMMO called EVE is to ignore them, don't talk to them, and just leave. Use DScan even in highsec, find probes, turn wrecks blue, pop wrecks, as they try to near NPC battleships you seek light drones on (lol seriously, lights won't kill a BS before downtime), switch targets to another NPC battleship and create wreck, they fly towards it, you go back to first one but keep second BS wreck target, BLAM! as they near it. Cause them to fly around like a puppet on strings.

Seriously???... please say your joking. I RR them and they, (usually fitted with a small, can hardly do any DPS to a Drake or BS class ship) run in a Stabber or similar. They fire upon me, they get Concordokken'd. RR is not an aggressionable offense. Talk to a Mod and they will definitively state it.
Also, have never gotten CC'd due to it... In fact, it makes the mission funnier as the ninja is now involved and has to work for their take.
I would advise trying the method before stating its implications... The worse you would get is a WD and even then... All part of the game.

Remote repping a criminal used to be an offense, but I think they fixed that a while back. I think the repper shuts down if the target gets a GCC while you're repping him, but repping him after he gets one still brings in CONCORD. ______________________________________________________ PVP is a question that has no one right answer but a lot of wrong ones. - Aelana Anais

Nothing "ninja" about it. Just another ******* stealing and trying to bait you into combat. Probably doesn't have the stones for low or null.

This
True, you wouldn't know that your stuff was being taken until it was gone if it is a "true" ninja.
