Edited by: Cassiopeia Andromedae on 08/07/2011 13:54:32 First, SP for ISK, would be serious boost to EVE's economy.
It's good idea and very easily it could be brought to the game.
Example
Player 1 trains some skillpoints, let's say Gallente Battleship, and then realises that GD gallente SUCKS!
What to do?
Well he could get rid of those Gallente Battleship skill skillpoints, and put them on the market for sale.
Then Player 2 is wondering how she could get that Gallente Battleship skill fast to level V to get the mighty POTATO SMASHER. Then she figures it out and opens market and buys those ridiculously overpriced Gallente Battleship skill skillpoints from Player 1.
So in nutshell, players could sell skillpoints, that they have already trained, to other players for ISK.
That way it would be just like Character Bazaar, but without the hassling and possible illegal russian character scammers.
Win win situation and you could just start new character, and buy the skillpoints that you need for it, instead of buying badly named, poorly trained character. You would get the character of your dreams, and someone would get the overpimped solowtfpwnmobile that they always dreamed off. |

The game doesn't need another ISK faucet.
IF you want the perfect character train it yourself.
The reason why you can't buy the perfect character is because that person was playing the game. They had to make choices along the way, use this today and put off this till later on.
If you find somebody who does have the perfect character it means they didn't play them they just created it to sell.
Object is to develop the character not generate it off an assembly line. |

Yes, but PLEX = ISK.
Also, implementation of the OP's idea would be hellish (and ripe for exploitation), due to the variables involved... do you sell the SP directly, or just one skill level? Can you package skill levels together? Would it be a virtual item, or a physical one that has to be picked up? How do you apply it?
Lots of problems, and I can think of MANY balance issues it would cause right off the bat, especially in light of how easy it is to convert GTC into PLEX, and PLEX into ISK. |

Then you'd lose the ability to judge what a player might be capable of flying by the characters age....an important part of pvp intel. It would pretty much break null-sec worse than it is due to the huge influx of more cap capable characters as well. (we need less supercap blobs not more).
Could theoretically mean a one day old alt character able to fly a titan or supercap if the owner had the funds for it - ridiculous.

Today we have Alliance - today we are flying Amarr T2 fitted BS's One month later, okay Now we fly Minmatar fitted BS's
Nothing incredible there you train accordingly for each ship and the alliances know it takes time to complete.
ISK for SP. Alliance rule - All players will be max trained on the current Alliance ships and fits, purchase SP's if you have to there will be no excuses. Anyone who doesn't meet the requirements will be kicked.
I know some will say that no alliance would do that. Actually I can think of several Large alliances that could and would to the point of purchasing the SP's for their players.
SO now, not only can large alliances purchase all the ships they want, now they can instantly train all there members. And for those that can't afford it , well........
There is no up side to ISK for SP

So, like, I buy a character for ISK, it turns out I can make more money off selling the SP on the overinflated market, so I sell ALL of this 6 year old character's SP?
I like the thought process behind it and you deserve kudos, but it's FAR to open to exploitation since you'd have characters learning a skill over and over and over again just to plough it into the market, which would only devalue SP in a far worse way than PLEX for SP.
Sadly compared to this PLEX for SP would have less of an effect on the game. It's like allowing us to sell research points. |

Ignore all the trolling, mate. Of all the SP for ISK proposals, this is actually the only one acceptable, as there's no SP printing press involved. Someone needs ISK, the other person needs SP.
Make it a formal propasal, and you'll have my vote. |

The training system is one of the things that makes attaining something in this game so worthwhile and valued. I like anyone else have made bad training decisions, you live with them and move on. If your after instant gratification (which this would lead to) rather than hard won goals then I suggest you find an FPS server as you don't need to wait for anything there. |

Edited by: Cassiopeia Andromedae on 08/07/2011 15:01:00 In OP post there is the TIME SINK.
Someone has to train those skill points first, in my example there was Gallente Battleship skill, wich is RANK 8.
So in order to sell skill points, you would have to TRAIN THEM first.
Same applies in character bazaar nowadays.
Plain and simple.
A trains skill points
A sells trained skill points
B buys skill points that A is selling and has trained.

or CCP can double their profit by making players A and B sub to the game for x months
this is a horrible idea, so CCP should lose a year of subs for player B while player makes a pot of isk selling SP to player B.
this benefits nobody but the lazy clod buying the sp, the player selling it won't even realize a decent return on his investment. and CCP loses money

what a genius! So where goes the subs of B? Swallowed by you?
To OP, this idea is good for players but it won't happen because it will not benefit CCP at all. They need more subs with less online time, and this idea will cause players plays online more without paying extra, that means more cost on server resource without return.
However, a 'convert rate' less than 100% may make this more feasible if at all. Sth like I can extract 10K SPs from my brain and you can only get 5K when inject it. This will help to control the total amount of SP. The convert rate should be quite low and should be affected by the skill catagory and the attributes of the buyer--only by this can we make attribute points remain meaningful. And this means you can only trade specific skills but not SPs. |

The only difference between that and now is that one could name their own toon instead of buying it, and they could buy more titan pilots than are already on the market.
As far as purchasing a single pilot/ship, it changes nothing but the name. |

Except for the fact that there's a limited amount of supercap capable pilots in the game currently due to the time it takes to train them. (yes this is increasing, but it's not a massive flood as this idea would bring).
When you have people training up alts just for skillpoint farming as Akita T says, it will mean many more characters able to fly them.
If you think this wouldn't affect 0.0 warfare drastically then you're not seeing the bigger picture. Those 0.0 alliances with the moongoo will be able to buy the sp's for it's pilots to max out their fleets - the smaller alliances trying to get a foothold would get put at an even bigger disadvantage than they are already.

You say that as if it's a minor difference.
Hint IT'S NOT.
In one case someone had to spend 2-3 years training up a well skilled super-cap pilot in order to sell it, in the other said pilot just spawns out of the ether.
This is not a minor difference this is a game breaking difference. |
