The Siege Warfare skills description says: "Basic proficiency at coordinating a fleet's defenses. Grants a 2% bonus to fleet members' shield capacity per skill level. Note: The fleet bonus only works if you are the assigned fleet booster."
From this I am assuming that Level 5 of this skill gives a 10% boost in fleet member's shield strength. Does that sound reasonable?
The Siege Warfare Specialist skill description says: Advanced proficiency at siege warfare. Multiplies the effectiveness of siege warfare link modules by 100% per skill level after level 2 is trained.
From this I assume that Level 5 of this skill will boost the effect of the link module by 400%?
The Siege Warfare Link I am interested in is "Siege Warefare Link - Shield Harmonizing". The description doesn't really say much about boost. :
"Boosts all shield resistances for the fleet's ships.
Warfare links are dedicated fleet command systems designed for use on battlecruisers and advanced command class ships. While only one of these units can normally be operated at any given time, certain advanced units allow the use of multiple systems.
Note: The Fleet bonus only works if you are the assigned fleet booster."
In the Attributes for the module the only thing it says that seems to be possibly be related to shields is "Command Bonus: -2%"
I have no idea what it all means.
I'm an Orca pilot and want to give a reasonable shield boost to my miners. How do I find out how much boost I would be giving them with Siege Warfare V, Siege Warfare Specialist III and the "Siege Warefare Link - Shield Harmonizing"? |

Edited by: Kastsumi Kobayariel on 09/07/2011 17:44:35 The wording on that stuff is indeed confusingas hell. Best way to find that out is to go through EFT, in my experience.
With your skills and using the Shield Harmonizing ganglink, you will give your pilots a 9% shield resistances across the board as well as 10% shield HP.
edit: if you had Siege Warfare Specialist V, the bonus would be 15% to resistances and 10% to shield HP, with the Siege Warfare Mindlink also plugged in it would be 22.5% and 15% respectively. |

TYVM. I didn't even think about a mindlink. I've got the mining Foreman Mindlink in now. Hopefully that one goes in a different slot.
I did try to see what it would do using EFT, but either I was interpreting the results wrong, or it was telling me that the module didn't do anything. (Because I haven't started Siege Warfare Specialist yet?) How would I see the results of this setup using EFT? |

What I did was load an empty Orca with a single Ganglink, load up the All V character and modify the specific skill to lvl3 via the Character Editor window. Then set the Orca and character as Squad Commander, toggle the ganglink on and off. Add the mindlink (all mindlinks go into slot 10, btw) and modify the skill further to check different results.
The reason for an unfitted Orca, except for the ganglink, was so it would have a base 0% resist on EM, so the new EM resist is the bonus the ganglink gives. If you fit it with invulns and other shield hardeners you have to show info on the ganglink, the percetages should be in the attributes tab. |

One last thing to consider, though it might make a bigger difference on a dedicated gang booster like the Vulture or Damnation, is that the resistance ganglink is stacking penalized with local hardeners. This means that, using shields for example, if someone had two invulns and you had the shield harmonizing link it'd be like them fitting a third invuln - it wouldn't be very effective. This means that when you are certain to have links in your fleet you are generally better off using a single eanm/invuln and specific hardeners for a stronger and more even resist profile. |
