After reading the last DevBlog about NeX Pricing the Tier System and also by looking at the current available NeX items i realized that we have many times the same item just differing by their color. Same applies for the items you showed us in your WIP screenshot.
tl;dr: Give us the abbility to choose the color of our clothes. Differ tier items by decals not by color.
So i suggest: Give clothing an option to choose color like we can do with Hair and Makeup. Create a palette of individual colors for each Pice of Clothing so people cant just choose colors like 255/0/255 and run around in ugly lore destroying colors. So how can we still have a pricing difference by tier if not buy color? Easy! Differ them by decals. The higher tier items should look each tier step more complex. For example i wand to go through 4 samples you showed us in your DevBlog.
Sample1:
So lets go through. We have your supposed tier1 item that is very easy from its design. It has no shine on any fabric and lets say you can only choose one color for the whole piece. Next tier would be the middle piece which gets some decals. If you look at the arms you can see some shine which seems to be some higher quality fabric. Then lets add here the option to give the shoulders and the basic the option off choosing a different color for each like we can see in the tier3 item where we have red shoulder parts and an overall black clothing. Tier3 items has all the option like the tier2 items but adds some more fine decals like metal insignias at the collar and at the bags ant some gold stripes at the clothing edges. So this piece can be an excellent example for a tier system where the player can choose the item in the quality he want but isn't forced to take the red color while he likes more the plain black/grey style of the tier1 item. But lets go on:
Sample2:
This is a piece that doesn't make sense in a tier system. We could start with the same color principle i suggested in our first sample. Give tier1 just one color option and tier2 two color options. But that would be still to less to make the tier2 a medium class clothing. Some more decals like a shiny febric or something else would improve it. But the supposed tier3 items just looks like the tier1 item in a different forced color. No one will buy this pice because it has no real advantage or higher quality then the tier1 item. So here need to be some work done. Give the fabric for example some texture ad gold decals like in the items of sample1. I think your artists will come up with great ideas ^^.
Sample3:
This is a good sample of a tiers system again. With adding the option to cahnge colors to our likings we have a great set. tier1 can only have one color you can choose from. tier2 has a two different color regions and tier3 has two colors where the main color have the decal of a camouflage texture.
Sample4:
Here needs to be some work done again. While we can see a clear differenc between tier1 and tier2 (the higher quality fabric/shine) the tier3 items is the same like tier2 just in another color. For example what if i want a non shiny tier1 items but with a more yellow brown like color the tier3 item has. I wouldn't buy the tier1 items because i dislike the color but i als wouldn't buy tier1 because i dislike the shine. So also give us the ability to choose the color to our prefering and give the tier3 item more decals that makes it look much mor expensive and greater the the tier1 and tier2 items.

I hope you have understand my idea. It just not make the NeX items much more attractive for players to buy but also adds a very higher variation in clothing by keeping the same style. This will be very important when meeting other players will become available in Incarna. Not just for the NeX items but it would be also important for the freebee items we have now. You have realized that you want to have the NeX items not to be widely spread among the players too keep their exclusive attribute. So if you don't want a range of uniform clones walking around in Jita 4-4 give us the ability to choose some colors. Another advantage is that we don't have a huge list of items that a all the same with the same price in the NeX store that only differ by color. If the NeX store will grow over the next years it would be very ugly scrolling through endless pages of one and the same cloth.

if anything it would be an easy way to add the number of items there for people to choose from.

Yes, Please.
CCP, put more artist and programming time into this. This is what the costumers want.

Edited by: Jint Hikaru on 12/07/2011 08:39:56 Not that I care too much about dressing up my characters... especially not for real $$$.
However, if CCP want to make this WIS work they need to add a huge amount of clothing options into the game. For people to really embrace WIS they need to feel like their character is unique, and than means not being dressed the same as every other character out there.
EDIT: The OPs idea would go a long way to allow people to dress/look more unique. Great Idea!
Plus put racial outfits in. Lots of them, restricted by race! --- Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum I can tell you that this is one of the moments when we look at what those at CCP will do and less of what they say. |
