Howdy, was wondering how long if ever is the 50 stored fittings going to be increased? I was told in a petition that it was going to be fixed about a week after it was reduced to 50, that was over 3 months ago :(
After reading that leaked CCP internal communication am i to expect that i will have to pay more money to get this fixed or will this company actually do what it communicates in petitions?
Thanks to the existing system that was introduced, i have around 200 fits for myself and corp mates for a multitude of different fitting skills that in time have become completly jumbled up.
Realising that nobody from CCP actually plays Eve anymore heres some info on the amount of ships in game:-
36 t1 frigates 28 t2 frigates 13 faction frigates 16 t1 cruisers 24 t2 cruisers 11 faction cruisers 4 t3 cruisers 4 t1 destroyers 4 t2 destroyers 8 t1 battlecruiser 8 t2 battlecruisers 12 t1 battleships 8 t2 battleships 10 faction battleships 19 capital ships 26 industrials and mining barges
Thats 243+ ships ingame, even using 1 fit per ship as the folks over in jov space seem to use thats 243 fits.
Can you see the issue now?

I'd love to sympathize with the problem, but it's just never been a problem for me. I've never heard of anyone that actually uses all 243 ships frequently enough to need fittings saved for them, and considering how quickly a fitting goes old in eve there's really no need to save ancient fittings. And it just doesn't get better by you suggesting that you really need to have a fitting for each supercap at hand and ready either.
If you want to have them for the nostalgic reasons, just save the xmls, if you need it shared, share the xmls. Maybe it's a good thing that you have to actually sort your fitting and remove all the crap. Kill your darlings.
No, I see the issue less now than I did before your thread. All that I can see is alot of bitterness and anger over well... details. |

WoW! You got no idea how it's like to have over 200 saved fittings, every fit for different occasion. You got no idea how it's like for a FC to need a certain fit ( fit saved with FC's name for example ) for a certain ship and another FC to call for a different fit the the same ship.
Here's a small example:
3 fittings for Maelstrom ( different fleet setups, thus different fittins and not to mention PVE setups - missions+incursions ) 3 for Mega ( 3 for Domi 3 for Abaddon 3 for Apoc ( smartbombs, PVE setup, gang pvp setup, fleet pvp setup ) 3 for Machariel ( armor fleet, shield fleet, pve setup, incursion setup ) 3 for Zealot 3 for Ishtar 3 for Drake 3 for Tengu 3 for Proteus 3 for Loki 3 for Rapier 3x3 for covert ops bombers
48 setups so far. But what if you need more than 4 setups per ship ? For a lot of ships ? |

I can answer this question.
If you still didn't see the reason behind making the stored fitting server side, I will show you.
They will add an extension in the item shop, so that you can have more.

I use EFT. I have the standard fittings for the 10 or so ships I fly regularly memorized. I've played the game long enough that I only have to spend a little time with EFT to find a fitting for a ship I don't regularly use.
I die on average about 3 times a week. I don't particularly need fittings saved because that doesn't save me that much time.
The biggest thing I use the stored fittings for is linking fits to people who don't know how to fit their ships.
The 50 fitting limit isn't that big a deal. Still its stupid that CCP decided to remove that functuality. I think they intended to sell it back to us before the Infinite Rage Machine made them put those ideas away. |

You're quite right, I have no idea. None. I've never had an issue with the amount of allowed saved setups being limited, on any char at any point of time.
What I've neither ever experienced is anyone actually having actual NEED for that number of setups saved in that interface. Maybe I just don't see the need for saving each individual setup where you swap your random harderner or swapping that meta 4 tracking disruptor into a t2 one.
Another great question is something like apoc and machariel pve setups. Why would you at all need them saved? How often do you need to rebuild one? I'm not saying it's wrong or that you shouldn't, I just don't see the reason to. |

I regularly run into the 50 fitting limit and have to delete some, it's a stupidly small limit for what amounts to storing a few bytes of text.
I run some incursion gangs and have to recommend fittings for just about every possible ship people might bring even if I don't fly them, so I need them all saved.

Any serious PvP pilot will require hundreds of fits. As an example I already have at least 6 fits for the Rifter. I am just a 5 month old starting PvP er who can't even fly anything T2 I can imagine veteran pilots with bigger ships having numerous fittings for each. Removing this feature from client side and thus introducing this ridiculously low number is a brain dead move. It makes absolutely no sense and hence gives more credence to those who claim that this is a ploy to earn more money.

I am happy having 100s of fits in EFT (thanks Gripen). I don't need all of em in game, simply because i don't fit regularly more than 2-3 ships. And "autofitting" experimental setups is not something i care about.
I've been a EFT-warrioring wiz in most of my corps, I think i fly a wider variety of pvp ships than most pvp-ers, and i could fill 100 spots easily... I can see the difference between needing something, and using something available to me tho...
Yes, the space for storing 100 or 200 setups is less than the billions of bookmarks, contacts and assets scattered by each toon around EVE uni...i would say a joke in comparison, but plz, don't make such a drama-thread around it...lulz...

This issue more than any other was what ****ed me off about the "Fearless" mag to find out that not only were the developers fully aware of the problems created when they forced us to move fittings to server side with a stupidly low limit. But that they were planning on selling those fittings back.
Selling additional capabilities was bad enough but here was a case where functionality was removed in order to create and opportunity to sell it back to us.
This should also be about as easy a fix as has ever existed. I doubt it would require much more than changing a single integer in the code from 50 to 1500 which should keep there from ever being a problem.
Honestly they should never have jacked with it in the first place another example of "fixing" something that wasn't broken while ignoring a thousand things that are.

Since I played the game for I dont know how many years before it was even possible to save fittings in game, I guess I just dont see this as a huge issue. And since I can actually fly most of the 240+ ships in the game, id probably be more likely to have a problem than you. Just install EFT + notepad and your problem is solved. Or maybe just learn how to fit a ship properly using your brain rather than fits you found on the internet, and you wont have to worry about remembering them all... you can change on the fly like ive done the last 8+ years. |

I dont know, I dont have 4x racial carriers + dreads as well as mining and industrial ships trained on any of my accounts.
Besides there are only a handful of ships you tend to lose all the time so you'd need saved fittings for.
50 is plenty for me.

When they moved fittings server-side I couldn't even access my fittings at all until a couple of patches later. When I did deselecting over 300 fits wasn't an enjoyable experience.
I think for most ships there are easily 3-5 fittings that are worth storing at a time. when you fly even about a dozen different hulls you can start to hit the new limit.
Of course there was a time when this feature didn't even exist in game but telling people to shut up about it and learn to import/export and use EFT, while a valid point, isn't exactly addressing the issue that CCP made this senseless move in the first place.
Speculation regarding the comment made in Fearless about charging for more slots is a whole other issue.
There is no logical reason not to let us maintain an unrestricted client side selection of ship loadouts like we used to.

The point of the fitting tool wasn't simply to store fits. EFT can indeed be used to for that duh, the point of the in game fitting tool is that you don't have to go digging through your ****ing hangers looking for every individual module when you are fitting a ship you select the version you want hit fit and viola done.
Which brings up an additional irritation that came with the change. Not only did they needlessly limit us to an unreasonably low number of saved fittings they also removed the ability for the tool to fit rigs.
This is extremely handy if you are needing a fast turn around (something I need a lot in RVB) you get one frig shot out from under you run back assemble ship open fitting tool fit to ship, group guns add ammo and right back out for more destruction.
Once again CCP needs to fix this **** already. If nothing else just revert back to the old stored on our PC system that worked perfectly fine and didn't need fixing in the first frigging place.

EFT has nothing to do what so ever with storing or saving fits. You may use it to alter, browse or create fittings, but in the end it's nothing more than xml-files. Notepad does the same thing - with arguably more features and better compatability. Parrots, commence!

EFT should've been bought from it's creator and incorporated in eve as an in game tool a long long time ago. It's what Wow did with the wardrobe 3rd party thingie.

Sadly, that'd be a terrible idea. If ccp had the resources to maintain it, they would've already. Having an active community is way way stronger. If anything they should aid gripen in his efforts, ie make him earn perks for his efforts and any and all help he could need.
But that's more of a dream and less of a short term incomesource. Parrots, commence!

What resources? It's my understanding ccp employs 200 + people.
1 person keeps the program current every few months as a hobby, you tell me from 200 people working full time and getting paid for it they can't spare 1 programmer the few hours per major update to tinker with eft?
"CCP doesn't have the resources" - that's the weirdest thing I've heard all day long and I often think of 7 impossible things before breakfast.
Eve has the worst UI I've seen. Like for instance - all normal games use enter as the start / stop typing in chat . Eve uses space bar - WTF.
To mark a target for killing you go through 2 drop down menus WTF? In the middle of the fight you should be able to hold down 1, click on target and it should get the 1 tag, not right click scroll down to numbers , scroll down to 1...
And don't even get me started on the inability to drag a selection over several items, I feel like eve to games is like dos to windows.
Holy Capone - shape the hell up CCP.

Because storing them locally is no longer an option.
If it were a choice no one would be complaining. If there had always been a 50 fit limit you still would have far less complaint. The problem is they went from a tool that could store unlimited fits locally on your PC to a Tool that would only store them on the server and only store up to 50. Oh and to add insult to injury it's not like you can even see what the fits you are thinking about keeping out of all your fits before you pick it.
And of course STILL NO ****ING RESPONSE TO THIS FROM CCP on any of the myriad of posts that have been related to this issue.
