Silly Peasant!
How dare you defy the god given order and tricking someone into teaching you how to read. At least said person was sane enough to refuse to teach you how to write and/or to formulate a coherent thought.
Now, after amusing us with your lowly intellect, how about you tend to what you are destined for, plowing fields.
Besides, its not your fault that you're a lesser human being, its genetics.

I find all of the responses to the OP to be disillusioned.
Everyone posting in this thread, including myself, is a peasant or worker. No logic argument is needed, no poignant references.
Unless you are a law maker or ccp dev, welcome to the proud lower class. Now, instead of bickering and resorting to ad hominem attacks to falsely attempt to raise your own class or status...
Unite. Up the union.
Cheers.

Insulting it may be but, in RL you are a peasant. Our form of civilization hasn't really changed so much from medieval times if you consider Government to be the Kingdom and Corporations as Fiefdoms and employees as peasants. Sure, the details and mechanisms have changed. But, ultimately, the overall structure is still there. Nobility is still mostly inherited. Or to put it another way, the highest levels of government and the highest levels of corporate achievement are still held by people with the same opportunities to attend the best schools and associate with their social class peers. Although there is the chance that one can actually transgress the boundaries of class, it is rather slim, fraught with pitfalls.

All the words and phrases used today and you are going to pick out peasant, to get offended over ?
Sorry but as you pointed out, the word means nothing in modern context so there is no reason to get offended over it, or better yet even to use it unless you are talking about a historical matter.
So how it could be construed as an insult is beyond me.
So sorry, but calling someone names and getting offended over it is a game for when you are 10. At some point you learn that calling someone a bad name just shows your own stupidity. And being baited by such foolishness lowers yourself down to their level.

As "a citizen of the United States", you should know better than to challenge the civil court system's ability to take every penny you make for the rest of your life, as well as your house, your dog, your car, and the lint in your pockets (as well as your pockets) should you ever actually throw that punch.
Quit being a damned tool. You're making the rest of us Americans look bad. --Vel

As a citizen of the united states I find this thread pointless. -_- people find too many things offensive, and try to do too much about it. Face it folks: Life isn't fair nor is it comfortable, and that isn't going to change.
People's words are just that: words. Stop taking offense over something which was clearly said in jest, and don't feed the trolls (regardless of how much fun it can be sometimes). Also, I know you can't use Role-Playing as an excuse to break the rules...but even still, our monocled overlords have purchased this status symbol to flaunt their riches, their choice to waste those resources instead of using them on something useful...and yes, I don't have enough in-game resources to get a monocle...honestly op, are you sure your character is Caldari...seems to be acting too much like a highly liberal Gallente...(and now the flames shall rise)
As far as the idea of discussing the ideas of the original post: You could try to make the case for it being against the EULA/TOS; of course this is a highly nit-picky legalistic and restricting view of the TOS, and the case would be difficult to make...and saying that anyone using it is "obviously a self-bloated fop..." insult could also be considered against the TOS/EULA under the same rules you just applied to the word "peasant"...so you broke the rule trying to claim they broke the rule...

Originally by: Valentina Valentia I would like to say this to anyone using this term...
1. A peasant is an agricultural worker who generally works land owned or rented by/from a noble, the peasant was bound to the land and couldn't move or change their occupation unless they became a yeoman (free person) which generally happened by buying their freedom, the peasant also generally had to give most of their crops to the noble. The word is derived from 15th century French pansant meaning one from the pays, or countryside, ultimately from the Latin pagus, or outlying administrative district (when the Roman Empire became Christian, these outlying districts were the last to Christianise, and this gave rise to "pagan" as a religious term).
[1] The term peasant today is sometimes used in a pejorative sense for impoverished farmers.
2. Are pejorative terms allowed by the EULA/TOS in EVE forums?
3. Should such be allowed?
P.S. As an Citizen of the United States I personally find this term offensive, and fighting words under the legal sense of it, should someone use this in RL to insult me I believe they would take some calcium supliments in the form or swallowing their teeth with the help of a fist.

As someone who is not a citizen of the United States in any way other than name due to an accident of birth (Gods be thanked!), I find your cliche'd American mix of entitlement- and victim-mentalities, plus the equally cliche'd assumption that you can dictate your shallow sensibilities to everyone else, offensive.
Yes, it's tiring, and the people who (over-)use the term "peasant" are bloody grating, but that still doesn't change the fact that you Yanks need to get a sense of humour.
It's "buffoon," by the way...

"Peasant" is a term used by the nouveau-riche who are struggling to fit in but who unfailingly manage to stick out like a sore thumb through their weak grasp of the proper language, style, and mannerisms, and in particular through their uncouth behaviour.
The proper term, of course, is grasping lower order, to which, try as they might to avoid it, these upstarts still belongà
Oh, and ultimately, this. Very much, this.

Sigh....
It seems that I have to spend at least half my time these days apologizing for the entitled, self centered, bull-**** that comes out of other Americans mouths...
So once again, on behalf of the two or three of us left who realize that the world does not revolve around the United States, I apologize to society for the ones that do. I am working on a solution to this problem, but I keep getting caught up on the whole "war crimes" thing. Hopefully we can resolve this situation soon though.
