so as CCP bring out Dust514 FPS mmo on Playstation Sony bring out Planetside 2 FPS mmo on PC
Just find it amusing that even the PS3's creators know that the best format for this genre is the PC :)

Looks like CCP should have just asked sony to add content to planetside already made for playstation, and dust would be done.

Welcome to the world of conglomerates. It's not really "the PS3's creators" that are creating the gameà ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

Hmmm - do you think maybe Sony is happy to have one both genres this way?

Who knows, maybe Sony convinced CCP that they should work together covering different customers instead of competing?

Planetside 2 will likely be amazing, Dust I'm not so sure, but as its console only I guess I don't even have to worry, sure I want it to succeed so CCP has some money to spend on Eve again, not exactly sure how thats gunna happen but I can hope..
Which makes more money is a different story but anyone who judges the quality of a game by the money it makes its pretty fail when often the opposite is true.
WoW vs early SWG CoD vs Battlefield EVE vs CEVE etc..

My best guess is Sony is loving the idea of another exclusive title on their console, so they are probably going to give CCP some special treatment to make sure the game runs well on their system. Exclusive engineer support directly from Sony, better documentation on the hardware, all that kind of stuff.
Planetside is its own beast, yeah they could do it on the PS3, but the hardware would limit the scale of the battles that they want to go for. Planetside is meant to be like Battlefield: The MMO, so its going to have much higher requirements for the hardware unless the developer / publisher wants to make it look like MAG. Not that MAG was a bad game, but it certainly took a hit on the visual stuff to fit in the size of the world they wanted to fit. Based on the way things have been said, it sounds like the Dust maps are going got be more "battlefield" sized, where engagements are limited to a combat area and its easier to make sure people don't get lost in the wilderness or something.
Yes we all want Dust on the PC, but at this point its not going to happen until CCP decides to expand their market back to the PC side. This could be a good learning experience for them.

Close. CCP is attempting to tear down the wall that segregates MMOs from each other and is also attempting cross-platform interaction. This could represent a Huge New Paradigm/Model in the MMO business.
DUST interacting with EVE is a New Idea(tm) and given how many MMOs that Sony/SOE has, Sony probably sees DUST as a potentially very profitable experiment, or a learning experience at a minimum. SOE is probably providing a relatively minor amount of resources to support DUST, whereas CCP is taking on most of the risk, which makes the DUST/EVE experiment even better from SOE's perspective.
----- Request for Eve Development Roadmap. Let CSM know that we want one.

Im some of the articles the devs when asked hinted that it might also be released for PS3 as well.
Apparently DUST will cost 10-20 at launch. Which then gets you 10-20 worth of in game monies as well.
I'm guessing PS2 will be 60...and hinted at quasi sub based... Although im guessing they'll go the MT route as well. So if I own a PS3 and a PC why do I want to play DUST over PS2? FPS are better on PC afterall.

I somewhat disagree. It depends on what your going for.
For competition for example, I play CoD:Black Ops on the console, and the console is the most balanced way to FPS, since everyone is running the exact same hardware.
With that being said though, the PC can deliver more sexy graphics. BF3 is going to look awesome on the PC, while mediocre on the console.

Running the different hardware (minus a few select cases such as the jumping in COD5) doesnt really give you all that much of an advantage.. If your system is running slow then turn down the graphics.
All that nonsense about uber network cards is bogus, and can save you all of 5ms off your ping. Furthermore if youre going to argue the Mouse and keyboard thing...well you can use those on consoles as well so... and someone using a M/Kb on a console is way way more of an advantage than some guy who spent 100 on a mouse im playing against in tf2 or BFBC2.

Did CCP sign a platform-based, non-compete agreement with SOE?
Jebus, the FPS market will be nicely saturated next year.

There are a lot of great looking FPS games out/coming out that I would expect DUST to at least be on par with. Of course a computer could look better, but I wouldn't mind sacrificing that to make it a generally no excuse FPS where people just scream lag every time they die. I think having it on PS3 only is a good idea because it brings in a new audience and enormous player base that could really help CCP with $$$. Also, the fact that anyone can make FPS for a console or PC, but bridging a console and a PC game together is a very welcome change amongst the gaming world. I for one am glad CCP took the step further. Hopefully it will inspire others to start pushing gaming to the next level.

eh thats not really a conglomerate, its a vertical monopoly. a conglomerate would be like if sony, an electronics company, bought burger king and started making cars and fast food. a vertical monopoly is when a company owns all steps of manufacturing of a product, such as sony creating blu-rays and cell processors to make a ps3, and owning development studios to make games
