No! They are just going to run a simple test to see if you have a card more than 6 months old or made by anyone other than nVidia, if any are true then EVE will BSOD :P

If your GPU bruns, it either your [wrong cooling] or the manifactures error.
Even CCP can only use the features the driver of your GPU allows them.

My laptop just overheated loading the door on 1 Eve client with all settings as low as possible. (it also caused my graphics driver to crash)
Before Incarna I could run 2 clients on the exact same laptop, even in space, perfectly stable with no driver crashes.
So everyone saying this isn't CCP's fault/problem really needs to get a reality check. Great your PC runs it ok, so does my desktop, so shut up and stop pretending this is a non-issue.
The patch states that it will reduce temperatures for the CQ, which a lot of us frankly couldn't care less about, will it reduce temperatures for the door?

I wouldn't count on it and I wouldn't trust CCP anyway, toss an extra cooler in your case/add more fans etc and or add a notebook cooler or other way to bring down the high temps of poor CCP coding.
I was surprised how 'the door' raised temperatures as well but apparently the poor design of 'incarna' is universal.

Still your own fault, mate. Laptops aren't really meant to game, you know that (even though they're advertised as such). They have inherent problems, like power requirements, and, most notably, heat dissipation issues.
Incarna is not at fault here: it just pushes people's systems to a CPU/GPU load heretofore not seen all that much; thus merely revealing cooling issues people already had on their system, but which never really showed thus far.

My cpu and motherboard fried on patch day running two clients with CQ on.
While I do understand the terms and conditions and have accepted what has happened to me, for me it will always be Incarna destroyed my machine.

CPUs dont die from heat. And graphics cards is the fault of the manufators (nVidia, AMD). For making cards that cant run 100%. Unlike nVidia Tesla cards for example. --------------------------------------

For all you know, it could be dust in your computer preventing proper ventilation. Personally, I increased the fan speed and reduced the clock speed when Incarna came out, just as a precaution. And I strip off my video card's heat sink and dust it out every 6 months or so.
PC gaming comes with a great deal of personal responsibility. If you're not prepared, then by a warranty: Most manufacturer's warranties from Dell, Toshiba, Sony, etc, do cover video cards overheating.

...wow, how you manage to gather the mental agility to breathe, nevermind post is beyond me.
How is it my fault? I could run it fine before and now with absolutely no new content (in fact a loss of content as I dont have the old hangar/ship spinning)
Who says laptop's aren't meant to game? All I want to do is update orders and check contacts on it, and now suddenly I am unable to do that from my laptop. None of the core mechanics of the game have changed that I want to access, yet now I am unable to. What are you arguing for? You want pointless system requirements to force people to use their desktops to play eve so they have to interrupt their schedule just to play a game, when the game itself could easily run on a very basic system. I could believe this idiocy if I hadn't been playing this game on my laptop with ease for a long time.
How is this possibly anyone but CCP's fault, we chose to turn this new awful content (which we all paid for) off and yet we still cant use any of the old features of the game we pay for because the new client is so goddamn awful.

Good airflow, my friend; good airflow. :) Helps one breathe, post, and run Incarna, all at the same time.

You could run something fine, because 'it' wasn't taxing your machine to the max, like Incarna does -- thus not showing the inherent heat/airflow issues your machine already possessed prior to Incarna. The latter just exposed those heat issues.
You are not alone in this, though; many people have machines that cannot pass common CPU/GPU stress tests (bad airflow, dust, poor cable management, you name it). Still doesn't make Incarna to blame.

Are you seriously arguing this?!
Eve online uses standard graphics programming with standard DirectX commands, like any other game. Incarna is an extremely optimized and GPU heavy client, like almost all modern engines are.
CCP isn't doing some voodoo magic to kill computers, they're just using fairly modern implementations of the DX API.
I wonder what Metro 2033 or another more intensive game would have done to your laptop, lol.
It's almost certain we'll see some of the Incarna graphics tech in the in-space engine before too long due to the carbon initiative, keep that in mind. Eve is 7 years old and CCP keeps the engine somewhat up to date in order to stay cutting edge and draw new players in. Eve's graphics were cutting edge in '03, cutting edge again a few years ago with Trinity, and we're due for new graphics features about now.

How many folks are willing to bet the cards/mobos that "fried" was due to poorly vented machines and/or dust issues?
Read the EULA HTFU
Use this patch as an excuse to get a better rig. It was the perfect justification to move up to a GTX 590, 12 gigs of 1666 mhz ram, Raid 0 drives, top rung quad i7 processor etc.
Most folks who've been through major patches in this game have experienced graphics optimization/memory leak/buggy stuff. Its fixed in a couple of subsequent patches as they get data on the bazillions of difference machine configs we all have.
Next time, help them test this stuff out or quit complaining. We all know they are splitting their resources between Eve (makes cash) versus WoD and Dust (which make no cash but suck up cash). Time will tell if gimping development here is a smart long term strategy to their only money maker.

Edited by: Ghoest on 11/07/2011 22:50:41 CCP would have a much better legal defense if the default Incarna settings had been lower with respect to the client machines.
The deal is the game was working fine for many people then they patched the game and it destroyed their machines. If the player had had to manually turn up the setting(or even manually click a "walking in stations" button then CCP could blame it on the users much more easily.
EDIT: Also because this costs of replace are ussually under $1000 players could use local small claims court in America. Rather than send lawyers all over CCP would probablu opt to settle.

Seriously?
My computer is clean on the inside and out. I have great air flow and NEVER had a problem.
If you take the time to read the patch notes, CCP said they were fixing their code to lower CPU/GPU temps. They have admitted that their product was causing overheating of CPU/GPUs. Some peoples cards fried, mine included. CCP should replace them or give acct. time to the people that have had their cards fried. They didnt test it enough before release to find these issues. Just like all releases they throw it out with little testing and then fix the problems.

Whoa! That's a lot of hineininterpretieren, as the Germans say. All CCP basically said is that they're optimizing their product even further. Somehow you got from that that they 'have admitted that their product was causing overheating of CPU/GPUs.' You probably shouldn't consider a career in Law.

People test stuff for CCP all the time on the test servers. Do you know what CCP does? CCP ignores anything they aren't told to investigate by their bosses or that can wait to be addressed later, if ever.
If anyone upgrades to the current 'top tech' or even 'upper middle' tech I'd suggest playing the new games and NOT just upgrading to play EVE.
Take a break, nothing new or really cool is happening in space for quite a while. If you aren't prepaid for months in advance take that time to play the new games that come out, are out, or of late you didn't play over EVE.
Use this as an excuse to walk away from EVE and do something else, another game, or real life ****. Here's some motivation, think about how much time you've spent playing EVE, months, years, etc, and how do you feel looking back on that time spent? Now imagine spending that same amount of time, years/months continuing playing EVE, how will you feel that far in the future looking back on EVE? Will you still be proud/happy/satisfied you spent that long playing EVE? Your answers suggest your course of action if you had any doubt.

I run an automotive repair facility, and these a-holes remind me of the people that complain that i won't warranty thier tires because they rotate their tires every 15,000miles.
It is called owner responsibility.
Before Incarna EVE was a pretty mild game on the resources. Now it is becoming more like a modern game.
Yes my laptop can't run CQ barely at all either. It is a Dell XPS M1730 gaming laptop from 2 years ago. Am I complaining? Nope.
I might get the dual vid card option for it but its $600 for a refurbished one... that is the inherant risk of buying a laptop for gaming. Difficulty and expense in upgrading. I upgraded my entire desktop for as much as the vid card for my laptop runs for the same price.
