It won't be long now before the two communities of Dust and EVE meet in a great inauguration, and do Dust players have a huge surprise waiting for them!
Massive parties are planned New Eden-wide where such fabulous gifts as Dust Bins, Dust Mops and Dust Covers will be on hand to distribute to the newcomers. The Dust Covers are said to be fashioned after the Hyper-Berka sported by the Women Of The Afghan Taliban! However, rather than a screen-covered peephole, they'll be provided with a sporty monocle to peep through.
Many games are planned as well with a memorial Flip My Can Recreational Hour slated for noon each day during the duration of the festivities. Seminars on What That Contract REALLY Means will be held by volunteers of the EVE Yaaarrr Society, along with Decorating Tips for the Groovy Domicile (a do-it-yourself clinic), provided by Carebears Intergalactical.
Many in the gaming world are asking just how these new members of New Eden will be greeted as they swoop in riding on their consoles. According to one capsuleer, "Our welcome will certainly show these newcomers just how welcoming the EVE Community can be. We'll be putting our best foot forward."
Though it's always hard to divine the future, there is no doubt when the Dust players arrive, they'll be safe in the hands of the always sympathetic EVE Community whose true appreciation of them will certainly be shown.
Pictures at eleven.

What's funny about this is, their rabidly awaiting customers aren't sure...is this THE buy-in fee and a bonus of in-game credits, OR is this an add-on TO the buy-in fee, essentially doubling what they were originally told the game would "cost"?
What's funnier is, this confusion is obvious in the copious responses to the news, and NO CCP clarification or reassurances are in sight. One CCP rep who will remain nameless used the ink to slaver over how understanding Sony is and how...they (CCP) are using the console thing as accoutrement...a convenient inconvenience, so to speak.
It doesn't take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

Yes, nice article on the Escapist, lots of even "better" press for DUST, as well as on various other media websites.

Dust is going to fail so hard it will make your head spin.
EVE will be left with a bunch of functionality dead ends that make FW seem like a dream.
All of this "de-coupling" fallback plan will die in a fire of groupthink.
The few exclusive planet items that make it into the EVE universe are going to be the new T2 BPO's.

My prediction is DUST players will be EVE players who sank $600 into a PS3 and a HD TV just so their alliance wouldn't lose its planets.
Alliance Leader: Okay, we all spent $19 on a mic from Wal-Mart this isn't any different. I see you on EVE and not on DUST and YOU.ARE.OUT!

To welcome them properly I need to have the power to nuke the site from orbit. It was promised that would be possible, but the same company said it would not do microtransactions so they went macrotransactions.
Thus I'm not holding my breath.

In preparation for Dust, all ships need to refrain from emptying their "facilities" prior to release. Then these ships need to converge around the planets with the greatest number of Dust-bunnies, drop into low orbit and "empty the bilges".
We may not be able to nuke them from orbit, but we can still hit them with a ton of Icy BMs.

I surely do hope that the above quote, taken form a SW comic, will apply to the orbital bombardments we will be able to perform.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of dust. And I don't expect anything less than the whole eve universe working against my little dust bunny. Even if it fails big time, at least it unites the eve players for a few days/weeks. At least it does unite the forum trolls, and we all know that's all that matters. If it, in fact, turn out to be a good shooter for consoles, I'm ok with that. And knowing the typical teenager audience of said shooters, I highly doubt that more than a handfull of those brats will stay with dust, leaving a hopefully more mature audience behind, and maybe even a few good matches can be fought over resources nobody cares about anyway, hehe. And if I can get one shot back at the endless numbers of ships bombarding me from orbit, I'll be one happy bunny, that's for sure. If it fails, I'll just hop back into the slimy ooze of my capsule and continue to look at "the door". I'm willing to give it a chance.

Who knows why people want dust to fail, its a new idea thats never been done before. Everyone just likes to ***** about everything. If it works and CCP does a good job, the game could be amazing and both games combined could bring in a more immerse experience. It would be great if eventually dust members and eve members will be able to walk next to each other and interact, it just expands the game to the next level. Who wouldn't want that to be a huge success? I applaud CCP for having big balls. This has the potential to be Epic.

Any news on how the economics of the Dust are going to work?
Like - pod pilots hiring dusties?
I assumed that was how it was going to play out, with an up front charge for the game and then ingame currency being decided on by how good your dual-analogue skills are.
Better skills = more ISK More ISK = better 'gear' better 'gear' = more options (like using tanks/aircraft/night vision) More options = more potential contracts More contracts = higher reputation
I always felt with this model, the game addictiveness formula would work - without it, hard to understand why this game would be addictive.
The basic formula as I understand is something like this:
(skill/expectation) X (time/exponential reward) = addictive

I can't wait for the beta coming from MAG(FPS) that's how I heard about EVE and Dust. The concept CCP have for Dust is hot MAG had the same concept except the Developer for MAG couldn't afford to push the original vision they had.
The most important thing CCP have to make sure is THE GUNS HAVE TO SHOOT RIGHT. Also those orbital strikes can not be OP'd. If the game plays smooth and the guns shoot right they will have a hit. If not use MAg as an example of what not to do. Horrible servers and the guns still don't work right killed that game went from 20,000 people on daily to now around 3,000 to 5,000 people on

I couldn't see how CCP would let this game just fail. It would be horrid to have it fail, the impact on EVE would turn to crap and it would make CCP look really stupid. Not to mention the waste of time and money would be enormous. I couldn't see how people wouldn't be attracted to this game. A lot of people will at least try it being that its not a $60 game, so people will say "Eh 20$, **** it, lets see how it goes". CCP is entering a market where FPS is all over the place but this FPSMMO will be entirely different. Even now MAG stands as its own, maybe not the best in the world anymore, but its still pretty much considered a different playstyle, so deciding on playing MAG or CoD wouldn't be, what game has the coolest graphics and guns, its totally playstyle. Dust will be an Epic MAG created by developers that have clearly made an already epic game, plus linking those 2 together? Own?

Good Stuff Colonel I have a question who is the target Audience CCP wants to play dust??? Is it the Wii COD crowd, or are they looking for the intellectual FPS players who like team based games with objectives. This is the one thing that has me concerned who are they targeting???
My son age (11) hates EVE and loves COD he doesn't want to think just shoot and kill so who is the audience for Dust????
