Forewarning: this only covers doomsdays, and not the superfluous amount of EHP titans have.
When 50 titans drop on a bunch of subcaps (let's pretend the titans didn't have any supercarriers with them for the purpose of this exercise) they spin up the doomsdays and 30 seconds later BAM there goes a huge chunk of the fleet. If you're in a bubble there's really nothing you can do. Combine those 50 titans with a subcap fleet and supercarriers and basically whatever you come across is ****ed.
Take, for example, a battle that happened about a month and a half ago between Goons and PL with about 200 subcaps on each side. PL (all they do is win win win since they can no longer spin spin spin their ships) was in the midst of losing the subcap fight, badly. An unusual occurrence for them, but they had a backup plan to win. Someone then lit a cyno and 30 PL-associated titans jumped in and doomsdayed anyone stuck in a bubble or too slow to warp off. That was a nice example of when titans should NOT have been able to do what the subcaps could not against other subcaps. Look, a HIC's got that titan pointed! Oh...it just got doomsdayed and the titan escaped. False alarm people, return to your sanctums.
Now, to say that doomsdays should be removed is a bad idea. For (and this is by no means a definitive price, just a rough estimate) a 50 billion ISK ship you should get something nice. But change the doomsday so it's signature radius dependent. Titans should not be able to one-shot interceptors.
Disclaimer: I am not associated with goons or PL.
Also, CCP, I just want to let you know that I'm willing to sell you guys a clue for $68 or something of equivalent value, such as a monocle.

In retrospect that would seem like a "Well duh, that's every shiptype in the game right there" kind of thing but what I mean by that is this: If the group gets into a fight with supers, the friendly supers if outnumbered can log off and sacrifice the subcaps to buy time and possibly even kill an enemy ship or two. If the group gets into a fight with subcaps, the titans nuke a good portion of the enemy fleet as they engage. If the group gets into a fight against enemy subcaps AND supercaps, it turns into a slugfest and the node dies.

Ok. So. Let me get this straight...you're mad because 50 titans destroyed 50 sub-caps (seeing as the doomsday isn't exactly rapid-fire...). You somehow think that if those 50 sub-caps had survived, you would have won the battle?
Can't tell if trolling...or just stupid.
You don't seem to realize that when super-caps are involved, it becomes a numbers game. He with the most super-caps wins. Period (unless you're really, really bad). It's a big problem, as most people will accept.
But the titan's doomsday being able to blow up sub-caps is a non-issue. Keep in mind they used to do area of effect damage.

Titans dont make a goon alpha fleets run, its the supercarriers which dump all of those flies that project enough firepower to make a dread pilot cry and have none of the drawbacks.

30 titans come onto a field where about 40/200 goon ships have already been blown up, and maybe 65/200 PL ships.
Goon ships start running. Most can't for a bit because they're bubbled.
30 seconds passes and 30 titan doomsdays activate. Goon logistics and other expensive ships that remained on field are mostly vaporized. Everything else is cleaned up by the subcap fleet. That's not theoretical. That's what happened.
Titan targeting priority goes something like this: 1. Enemy fleet commander, if he's not already dead 2. Super-expensive ships 3. Logistics. 4. Logistics. 5. Next-most expensive and/or important ship to the enemy's fleet composition. 6. Whatever's left.
And please, stop saying that supercarriers are ******edly overpowered. We know that. This is about titan doomsdays, and how they need to be considerably less effective against subcapitals.

As was mentioned in the previous Alliance Tournament, the number one problem with titans is that they almost never die.
Get enough Titans together and it's the same as an "I Win EVE" button.

They have a rather large cooldown on the DD and dont have that great defences vs subcaps. Its the supers that arrive with the titans which cause the problems.

Frankly the problem with Titans is twofold, 1) there are too many of them and 2) DD should not be able to hit a moving subcap. It has become virtually impossible to not get routinely doomsdayed on a weekly basis whilst just out roaming with a handful of guys. And before any bright spark suggest to set a trap and gank them, go and drown in one of the supercap threads.

There will never be balance in blobs.
Virtually the only people that use Titans are people who have blob-support. Ergo, no balance ever. Too bad. You want to be in a blob, then deal with the cons.

But 30 Scarrier can kill you 10 Titans in 15 minutes. FB are not affected by lag. Turrets are so better get those FB and Scarriers finally fixed before crying for a Titan change. Oh and the 3mil hp deathray was a change that came after everyone was crying about the 50k damage aoe DD.

I always though the implementation of tracking and weapon signature in EVE was kind of dumb.
A 400m slug from a blaster should be able to hit or sear a small ship for all of its damage. If it can't track it that's one thing, but we're talking about ridiculous number conversions that make it so they can't track in the first place.
If anything, I think a doomsday should destroy everything in the beam and persist to a certain distance. If a ship contacts the beam, it gets lit up.

PL, I'm looking at you.
The real problem is not that it cannot be countered, the problem is that if someone DOES bring the counter (more titans and more supercarriers than you have), you still only risk minimal losses due to logoff mechanics.
Supercaps should stay in space for as long as they are being shot or are bubbled if the pilot is logged off.
Suddenly bringing ridiculous supercap blobs could actually mean losing them all in the unlikely event that someone does bring a proper counterblob.

I'm unclear as to the OP's point. Is he saying that Goondom and pets can't match the Supercap fleet that was arrayed against them? Were they were unaware of that strategy? Or the numbers they would bring? Did goons think that some type of e-honour prevented them from hotdropping? Hadn't goons and friends bloated their numbers in anticipation of the DRF/Friends visit? Did they forget to bring in SC pilots when they brought the numbers up?
This is very confusing...glad it's not my problem...

It would seem a Doomsday Device, by its nature and the laws of physics would also Doomsday the user. It should be a suicide device. Use it, you're gone too. Liken it to a nuclear grenade. Throw it then run just to make yourself feel better.
If the tech for DD makes it a standard, fire-able weapon, seems the tech wouldn't remain applicable solely to a particular weapon. Seems it would find its way to all weapons making others obsolete, ipso facto.
Just another example of the "I'm still playing in Daddy's garage" mentality of the thinkers in CCP's stable.

As it was before the Doomsday nerfs, the problem isn't the Doomsday, nor is it the Titans. The real problem is the blob. You need to somehow prevent Titans from blobbing together.
One Titan, or even just two, is not that bad... it's when you have a whole lot of them together that they become a problem because they completely marginalize the roles of everyone not in a super. ----------

DD targets are as follows
1) Command ships - Why?- Removal of fleet boosters to instantly drop the efhp of the enemy fleet, as well as remove all tackle bonuses they may have.
2) Logistics -Why?- If you need this explained you may not exactly be ready for fleet combat
3) Targets of Opportunity -Why?- The DD can actually miss, I know this is shocking to you but there are ways to dodge it so you want to make sure your target is properly tackled because its TEN MINUTES (somebody said 15, which is very very wrong) before you can try it again.

I dont know if the price argument was against me but my statment was that the price of oblitarting a single target is significant, not that a titan pilot would care cuz at that point you have lulz money anyway. If 50 titans drop on the field a nuke 50 other players one side just fielded like 4t worth of ships and fired nearly 1 billion isk worth of stuff.
If anything for that kind of cost the damage should really be upped.

Personally i don't think it's the DD that is the problem, it's the amount of titans that is the issue.
For example an Aeon Vs an avatar 1 v 1 would be very close if the titan didn't have it's DD. I remember back in Test, we attacked a POS in IT space, 900 friendlies Vs 600 IT people. They had 6 or so titans that were slowly picking all the BSs off over the course of about 7 hours while we were banging away at a POS, and alpha'ing a carrier once in a while.
Instead, if we turned and attached the titans straight away, we would have thoroughly beaten them.
I guess it comes down to 'isk condensation'.

Once SC get rebalanced those supercap alts move to titans. This is already happening because many of them ran out of useful trains for carrier and are "moving on". And yes titans will be used em masse against subcaps until there is a nerf on them too.
Introducing these ships was a huge blunder on CCPs part.

Not really, though not revisiting logoff timers when they buffed their EHP into the stratosphere was a grave oversight.
You could argue that EHP boost was overdone as well, but thats on another page.
The issue right now is the imbalance of huge production capabilities in game and the rather small amount of ships actually dying. Ideally the problem is addressed from both sides, slow down production of new units and at the same time ensure old units dying easier (yes, that means nerf EHP or change logoff mechanics as well as offer more incentive to actually fight over space).

No doubt here.
I wonder whether anyone within CCP is interested in WW2 history. They really should learn more about Dora and how 'useful' it actually was.
Dora is exactly what superscarriers and titans are to be - that is extremely cumbersome, extremely expensive, slow-firing, very imprecise, utterly vulnerable vessels. That means no portal, very limited jump range, 1 shot per hour which can actually hit a thing only when its angular velocity equalls null, EHP of a freighter and surely no EW-invulnerability, including tackling. Also it is to be impossible to fit cloaks and moreover - each titan's location is clearly displayed at the starmap.

It's a "Titan" you see one like a small ship sees a Aircraft Carrier you go "Oh s h i t!!" Don't you understand the word "doomsday" at all? It should be able to pretty much obliterate any ship size that is under it.

Edited by: Estephania on 13/07/2011 09:31:11 The game is already supercaps online if we are talking about sov and alliances. I doubt anyone at CCP thought that one day there will be 100 man fleets of supers and titans. Look at supers - immunity to EW, immunity to lag (fighter bombers don't feel any lag), craploads of HP. This makes subcaps obsolete. How can you counter those blobs? Yes, bring even more supers. That's why DRF BFF's are stomping on everything, there's no real way to counter a blob of 50+ supercaps.

Pretty much this. Titans are a part of the problem, no doubt, but only really because of the numbers involved. I think the DD cool-down kind of balances them on an individual basis, perhaps it could do with some tweaking though. But anyway, as things stand all you have right now are a group of alienated sup-cap pilots, like me. I prefer not to fly a ship that I have to sacrifice one of my characters to, but the drawback of course is that its essentially pointless for me to live in 0.0. Which is a shame because before all these super-shenanigans started I actually quite enjoyed being out there.
What this situation really needs imo is the cap equivalent of a battleship. A ship that isn't as expensive as a titan or supercarrier, and that you don't loose your character to, but that IS effective (perhaps in small groups) at killing supercaps. I honestly thought it made sense to give the dreadnought this role, but right now they essentially as pointless as subcaps, and still there is talk of MOAR caps being added to the game. Oh and somehow all this needs to be balanced so that subcaps are actually useful again too. I miss my nullsec roaming gang days

Edited by: Lu''Marat on 13/07/2011 10:24:52 1) Change logoff mechanics. If a pilot logs off, the ship stays indefinitely if it is shot at within five minutes or has been shot at in the past hour. If it is not shot at, usual logoff timers apply. Add something that allows non-dockable ships to be boarded only by authorized personell (unless broken into by DUST-troops, maybe?) so people can still log out without having their big ship float around as a free takeaway.
2) Change the DD so it can only fire at stationary or quasi-stationary objects, e.g. Titans, Supercaps, POSes, Outposts.
3) Change Titans and Supercaps so only one can be present in a 300km radius (i.e. beyond the 250km max target range) at full efficiency, each additional titan or supercap drops offensive abilities (damage, sensor strength, ...) at a sharp rate. They're huge ships, jamming together two or more at close range IS a bad idea.
Probably more. Never been a cap pilot myself. This just seems fairly obvious to me, particularly 1) and 2).

as far as sc goes. Once we get timedialation: any number of sc will be countered by 10-12 pilots fielding a total of ~4-500m worth of ships.
