I have noticed so much whining, and complaining.
How can eve evolve into something new and different, when people want it to stay the way it is?
Is eve better now then it was 3 years ago? I ask because I wasn't playing the game then and I'm wondering if the expansions and patches that came then received the same level of drama.

You shouldn't have asked that question. Now you're going to get an 87 page thread of 10 guys and their alts waxing nostalgic and all sorts of short-sightedness.

rofl "monacle overlords".
I'm tempted to go try a pair in the test server.

I just want to get a sense of perspective in the history of the game. I personally don't care about the Aur and CQ. I think CCP has some big plans and they are trying to go about achieving those goals.
The majority of the people who are whining and complaining are only doing it because they are sheep.

Every major patch there is a "The Sky Is Falling" crowd. This one seems to have lets say a louder tone to it, but this too shall pass. Can anyone say warp to 0

maybe because there is no actual content in this expansion, first time in the whole eve history...

Every patch/expansion I notice the same old **** too - CCP neglects established features, releases with unresolved major known bugs from test servers, and then fails to fix all the issues caused by the last expansion release before releasing the next bloody expansion. Rinse, wash, repeat, and add in extra FluffÖ fabric softener this time around. -- The Door! |

Maybe CCP should change their development strategy; the more work they seem to put in, the less we (the players) appear to get out of it, and the only people they seem to impress with their technological achievements is themselves.
I guess at the end of the day CCP could make HAL 9000 out of elastic bands and paperclips but nobody is going to care unless the end user gets something that resembles a game.

well there is no non pew pew content either - one useless room with no new functionality (followed by removal of some old functionality) and some clunky avatars vastly inferior to already existent character creator avatars is not a new content.

At least in my time of playing EVE, I know there was a lot of *****ing and moaning on the forums around expansions, which I shall recall in numerical order...
1. Trinity, for Boot.ini. 2. Empyrean Age, for FW being not very good. Still hasn't been fixed. 3. QR, for the nano nerf, *****ing and moaning by both sides of the argument. 4. Almost no whining, actually. Except about T3 prices, but that hardly counts. 5. Domino, for all the sov ****ing around and generally being lacklustre. About the starting point of the 'decline of EVE' that made me unsub. 6. Tyrannis, *****ing about being cheap, almost useless, boring, grindy. 7. Incursion, *****ing about learning skills and insane difficulty of Sansha sites. 8. Incarnage, only thing I haven't really heard whining about are the new gun an maller models.
But, insofar as I've seen, this is the only time that ~3k players and ~6k accounts have unsubbed.

Yes, but this one is different. Long time Eve addicts are quitting their habit due to what CCP has done on this occasion.

i have no problems with the last patch
although i turned off the station stuff cause it has no use yet (waiting to see what will change there)
but the fact that there are a lot of thing that still don't work well
(POS towers never worked well) but for some reason ccp does not fix that kind of stuff
my only hope is on team BFF as what i have seen so far from them looks like they will be spending all their time fixing the old stuff
but I'm afraid only time can tell
as for the protest i think that was mainly cause there was a rumor about ccp going for gold ammo and stuff
but i think they made it clear that that is never going to happen

The "so much whining" is just the small part of the community. Those never satisfied and happy "I know it all and better" clever d*cks who dropped RL for their PC world and finally they have to deal with serious annoying issues every day like "bringing down mum's garbage".
So everything is fine. Just enjoy EVE and ignore 80% of the forums posts.

Has anyone noticed that the moment that someone posts a complaint about CCP or EVE Online there seems to be at least one or two people who will immediately try and debunk it?
I wonder if any of them actually play EVE?

I'm asking for insight into the history. My stance is rather apathetic or neutral probably because I neither gained or lost anything from this expansion. This gives me the luxury of being able to see things from other peoples perspectives and keeping an open mind about things.

I'll make a summary:
There was once this company CCP, they made a great game catering for the spaceship/sci-fi community. They took Alien, Blade Runner, Elite series (PC game) and more as the foundation for the mood of their game, which was meant to be dark, harsh and unforgiving.
Soon they realized the spaceship/sci-fi community is really really small and even less are interested in an unforgiving environment like EVE, so they started toning down the hardcoreness. They added very good income sources in secure areas, which helped pull in all those space fans who were not interested in the challanging gameplay and player rivality. Then they tried to figure out how to attract other communities, and realized they cant, so they added PLEX to the game as an extra income from EVE, which had the main intention of financing other projects. Soon there was a problem with PLEX, players accumulated too many of them, so they needed to add a PLEX sink.
As you can see (if u bother to read that paragraph) CCP needs to milk EVE to finance other projects, and they need to do this without scaring off all the long time customers or they will recieve the opposite of the intended result, which is, obviously, not going bankrupt.
Being in the industry I appreciate CCP is creating jobs all around the world, although being a CCP customer and an EVE player (who has supported them since beta) I feel ripped off and cheated. I can understand the situation, all I hope is they dont ruin EVE with non-vanity MT and this all is a phase until WoD and DUST come out.

If that were true then the forums would have double the amount of irrelevant and tiresome posts that they currently have. You have to actually understand that some of us actually like the game - we're not buttkissing CCP - some of us ACTUALLY LIKE EVE ONLINE !

If you'd like it in that case then you'd be *****ing about it like the rest of us, sometimes people complain because they liked the original product you know :)

Why is it that most people are complaining about "no new content" recently then ?

How was it three years ago? Exactly the same as right now, only with less supercaps. There was also no incarna and planetary interaction, but those don't change anything to the core gaemplay. That's what a lot of players are angry about, Eve is becoming stale due to no signifiant content being added, compared to the old expansions what would always add 8 to 12 new combat ships. like the one with Destroyers + battlecruisers, or the one with assault ships + heavy assault ships.
And there's also quite a few bugs that still aren't fixed. ------------------------------------------

In 100 little ways, EVE is much better. In a few big ways, it has gone downhill very far.
3 years ago the major fights took place on CYNOJAMMER POSes. You would form up a fleet of 150 BS and try to shoot the jammer, meanwhile the defenders would have a bunch of POS gunners and a Titan sitting inside the shields. Lag was terrible, but the battles were full of adrenaline.
3 years ago you could take your BS Solo and travel 50 jumps through 0.0 and have a 50% chance of surviving. I know because I did it in a Dominix - just went exploring... got tackled by 4 T2 frigs but they couldn't break my tank for over 40 minutes before someone else showed up and they ran away.
Dominion's moving SOV away from the POSes was a terrible decision. Sure, the logistics people hated POS spamming, but there was an obviously better solution: allow personal POSes. Allow individuals in an alliance to drop their own personal POSes and have those personal POSes contribute to the SOV for the pilot's alliance. Takes the work load off of the logistics people, allows pilots to have a real investment in the success of the alliance, allows individual pilots to stake out their own claim, and keeps SOV warfare taking place on the POSes which provide a defenders bonus in the form of DPS.
