Edited by: Moot Sokarad on 13/07/2011 13:44:05 1.Birth: A new mmo is released to the public gaining media attention and players 2.Community: The devs are heavily dependent on the community and asks for their on what they want or what could be fixed. 3. Expansion: Game releases first expansion. Not much to explain. 3.Company Grows: Due to success of their game. The company grows and becomes more focused on releasing their product without asking the communities opinion on it. 4. Second Expansion: Second expansion release. Feels incomplete and rushed into stores (or download) 5. Corporate: Company is now no longer about community and making money on subscriptions and micro transactions } YOU ARE HERE CCP 6. Decline: Players are now leaving and devs don't understand and try to earn players/communities respect again} YOU ARE HERE CCP 7. Death: The company enters bankruptcy and immediately defuncts. 8. Possible Rebirth: A company might buy said game and the cycle begins again.
What im saying is that CCP you should really stop thinking about money and cater to the players needs. This game is about the players and is for the players. It was once a great game but now with these "protests" and the micro-transaction thing your showing that you only want money and only cater to those who pay extra.

Aw, there was me hoping for a wonderful history of the MMO covering the very first to what we have today and all I get is this tripe.
I think my first exposure to virtual worlds was Discworld MUD, a fab text based world, whilst a student many years back now. Still going too. http://discworld.atuin.net/lpc/
This thread is now a tribute to that.

I think you missed a few steps, Eve has had 15 expansions so far and still going stronger than ever.

Actually most MMO's go downhill because the Devs listen to the players too much. It is the nature of many forum goers to ask for something to make their life easier in game. Each time their wishes are granted, something about the struggle and rewards of the game is lost. Not every request follows this, but many do.
Not to mention - How many times do the players all want the same thing? Honestly?
When someone says "The devs aren't listening to the community", what they normally mean is "The devs aren't giving me my win button".
MT did not come from listening to the community, but business is business. CQ came from listening. Incarna came from listening. Vanity-only came from listening. When they tried to slip an Aurum-only ship in, it was removed because of listening.
Your analysis is flawed.

In EVE I haven`t noticed too much of "I want I win button" style of requests. Nothing compared to many other games in any case. Most of the big blunders have been their own making.

i dont care about NEX but i definitely not paing for wallpaper of door. While i am docket it looks like some web game. i looking forward to see in EVE more quests like in other mmo games. And also do not understand why there isn't any pvp arenas where you can be sure that 10 *******s will not hotdrop you. And also why the f**** CCP not doing anything against boting alts ? There is much more to work on, but as its looks like CCP play ping pong all day, and when is needed to show some work they add some stupid shades in nex store.

Well the first part was good and accurate.
Then you showed your personal opinion on the rest. Incarna and everything about it is CCP's brain child, they implanted that bug long long ago, not the players. New content tends to come from the developer.
But you are right a good 90 % of the changes to the existing content has been requested by the players. As this is what the players live a breathe this is where the most damage can be done. If you look back at the threads, the vast majority of the threads that brought normal players,(ones that don't read the forums cause they are playing), to the forums to complain, were changes to the existing content.
Flat out forum readers are the MINORITY not the majority of players.
300,000 subs 1% is 3,000 players at 20 responses per page.... 150 pages of a thread to represent 1%. So even accounting for alts and everything else. A thread that has less 100 pages isn't even remotely 1 % of the player base let alone the 5,000 pages you would need to become the MAJORITY.

The company still has to offer something of value in order for people to give their money to the company.
Incarna... doesn't seem to be following that model.

OP needs to seek treatment for entitlement syndrome.
Entitlement syndrome is when minors expect their parents to provide a lifestyle that totally centers around them. When children receive too much money, time or attention, three natural processes occur: ò Children become self-centered and begin to expect the world to revolves around them. ò They develop a skewed sense of reality that is not reflective of the real world. ò They are most likely doing too much and do not have enough down time for the ôkid essentialsö like studying, cleaning their room, or interacting with family, especially their parents.
Children with Entitlement syndrome either develop narcissistic tendenciesùôeverything revolves around meöùor they become discouraged because secretly they feel inferior unless everything is provided to them. They, like so many adults, crave a lifestyle that is not realistic. At 15, they are planning spring breaks to other states or in some cases other countries. They are inundated with mailers soliciting them as potential credit card holders. They experience adult-like situations at an age when developmentally they donÆt have the internal mechanisms to say no and they donÆt know how to handle situations appropriately.
