Edited by: Shander Maxum on 13/07/2011 20:05:00 I don't know about a developer but here is what I just said in a good-bye to corp mates:
Hey guys,
I didn't know the core NoX guys too well but spent a good part of 2 years with the 5th guys so wanted to wave on the way out.
The CCP moves and statements make it clear to me that game design issues are going to be decided around maximizing MTs... its not really the Pay2Win issue to me... I don't have a problem with people buying ISK and the stuff isk can buy in a game designed around players earning isk with game play.
The thing is they're making game play design choices like how many fittings you can store, and maybe ship balance, and supply of faction quality modules , and what sort of CPU use you're forced into in station etc. based around how much extra MT. they can sell. They've also stated they have limited development resources they chose to devote back into improving EVE vs other of their games and they'll be using a fair portion of those limited resources working on those things.
On top of that, I think the CaptainÆs Quarters sucks. I hate the way the characters move.. I don't like their design choices...i'd by far prefer a far lower resolution and the ability to dance around doing silly things to taunt people or just clown around... and don't have a clue what the purpose of an Avatar is if I can go around shooting things like i could 17 years ago playing wolfenstein (the doom precursor ) in 1994. Dumbing down Agent standings, and removing the social interest of seeing those for other players is another personal peeve.
So, I'm not going to stand by and be a part of supporting a company making those kinds of choices, even by playing it much for free and adding to the buzz around the game, .
I've got over 100 billion isk and, hell I might come back to the game at some point. I do like an awful lot about what they(CCP) founded and they might re-grasp their core ideals
or.... there might ust not be anything better to play. I'm going to try Pertpetuum for a few months. I'm in a corp with XXXXX guys ...using the name Sundance22 .. They've hooked up with some more experienced players... mature guys (but a bit inclined to monty python jokes)... but they still have some swagger and of course XXX does.
I'll keep logging in , updating skill cues, farming data cores, and maybe spending a few hours trading here and there to make a few billion more a month if its fun to do so... if you got some special ideas or game needs that catch my fancy I could see parting with some billions here and there if it was interesting or funny or you just caught my ear.
...but if i'm inactive, its probably best to drop corp to keep the emo complaints about "100 guys in corp and we can't turn out 15 for a fleet) from happening.
See you guys in the future back in EVE or in other games... (I'm going to mostly be using Sundance22 as a game moniker these days but I can see using Shander places too),
Cheers

I'm sorry you work for CCP...
I know if I did my faith would be shattered in my own company and Iceland is NOT a good place to be stuck as a game developer without a job - or a developer working on something he doesn't care about or enjoy. There are few professions in this world that you can actually be proud of what you do and really enjoy it - social services is one obvious field, but entertainment is another - and games build communities that last far longer than any LotR movie club.

I'd tell them that its unlikely their pay will go up when Dust and WOD launches, since its apparently part of corporate culture to under pay staff.
There is always going to be an excuse to pay you less than you are worth, and when there are proper processes to do things and the lions share of the load has been carried by you, you will be less needed, not your contributions valued more.
See the people that get the good pay, the WOW phantom cats, etc?
Theyll keep getting them.
Not you!
Its not a problem of cash flow, or revenue, but corporate culture! But really, what I want to say is that "No non vanity MT's" is the only line worth defending. |

Never said they were useless, I was refering to the rest of the rail lineup. How good would Amarr be without Scorch.
How does saying Drakes are useless have anything to do with Rails? Or are you just making poorly written statements.
Amarr would be worse off without Scorch so your quick implication that it in itself is as good as all Minmatar ships is short-sighted and ill-fitting. If they nerf scorch they had better do something to look at the ships as a whole.

I didn't say Drakes are useless I said not a Drake as in Caldari Ships that are not a Drake. Though it is a generalized Statement as ECM, Tengu's Hookbills and so forth are good much of the non Drake Caldari Line Up falls short. Will Not Drake and Gallente ever be as good as Winmatar/Scorch? I don't get where you would think I said Drakes were bad? Especially since it is clear I said not Drake as a way of refering to the Caladri Line up like how I used Scorch to refer to the Amarr Line Up.

Yes Amarr would be worse off without Scorch, my point is that Ammo pretty much runs the whole Amarr race. Minmatar can survive without Barrage or the other T2 Ammo fine but Amarr is a T2 Ammo to compete race.

To a native English speaker "Will Not Drake and Gallente ever be as good as Winmatar/Scorch?" reads "Won't the Drake and Gallente ever be as good as Winmatar/Scorch?" and not "Will non-Drake Caldari ships and Gallente ever be as good as Winmatar/Scorch?"
And if you're ready to admit that Scorch ammo is the only thing keeping Amarr from being underpowered, why would you group them in with the Minmattar?
Here's a question for a dev. Will Amarr ships ever be tweaked such they they don't have to waste one of their ship bonuses to make their racial weapon system viable?

I am not complaining about Scorch, it helps Amarr keep up with Minmatar just fine. I just got T2 Medium Pulses and am about to Train for a Zealot. In comparison to Hybrids it is overpowered. I would like to see a fix that puts all 4 in some kind of Harmony that is inclusive to the current role of combat in EVE.

Minmatar can survive without Barrage because they have ludicrous falloff on their standard ammo plus they are the one race that best controls range. You say that Amarr are hopeless without Scorch but in your original statement believe Scorch needs a nerf, alongside the entirety of the Minmatar ships, implying a nerf to scorch would fix Amarr. This makes no sense.

Although I see this thread is largely trolled, I'll try and be serious here.
I would tell the dev to stop buffing 0.0 at the expense of high-sec. I would explain to him the fallacy of "Not enough peeps in low/null sec? Nerf high-sec and buff low/null sec." I would, for example, try and explain that moving all ice mining to 0.0 is a bad idea; that it only serves to make the superwealthy 0.0 Alliances even wealthier, and that the little man will never see an extra penny of it.
I would try and explain that the way to get people to 0.0 is not take something away from high-sec people, but to make it easier for them to go there (a change in the implant system, for example; or making it so you can clone-jump twice a day).
I would urge him to deal with the Russian botters and the supercaps they buy with their illegally begotten ISK to effectively rule 0.0 space.
All on this would fall on deaf ears, of course, as usual. But dammit, I would say it!

I'd say, "What kind of name is Dev, anyway? Seems there's a lot of people here named Dev. Is it short for something? Maybe 'Devoid' or something?"

YOU'RE FIRED!
Also, if you are willing to then work for me and make EVE a better game without resorting to lazy MT schemes then you are hired back.

What I would say:
If you're going to add new content, make it worthwhile. CQ is pretty and all, but it does nothing.
If you're going to release an expansion, wait until it's out of the beta-stage before putting it on Tranquility.
You made turrets pretty, now it's time to make missiles pretty.
If you ever want to integrate Eve and Dust, you're going to need to make defending PI worthwhile.
Presently, in PvP, there are some ways in which smaller ships are occasionally better than bigger ones. Why then is it true that a larger blob is always, unfailingly, absolutely better than a smaller one? Why does blob warfare not suffer from diminishing returns, as everything else does?
Why do pants cost more than faction battleships?

"Hi! Nice to meet you.
One thing bothers me: Do you also have the feeling there's too many of you and some lacking true dedication? Does it sometimes come to your mind as well that the game might get developed too fast and without enough second thought?"

Always met them in situations were banter was all go, so alot of fun things were said, and often teasing at them (and back!)

I'd ask why they started developing DUST and vampier online at the same time. Then I'd ask if it was true they were in econical problems. Then I'd ask if there were a link between money problems and the DUST vampier combo. Then I'd ask if that is why they developed NeX. Then I'd ask why they couldent do this instead. Then I'd say they handeled the riot very professional. Then I'd ask if they aint afraid people would give CCP a bad rep. Then I'd say bye. My solution to micro-transactions/noble exchange and CCPs money problem! |

Edited by: Xorth Adimus on 14/07/2011 09:22:16 I'd tell them to HTFU and start improving gameplay and quit releasing gameplay that doesn't work and is full of bugs.
Most of all I'd advise them to take some courses in game design /concept design and actually have a plan or a clue what they are doing rather then floundering from one poor design concept to another.
If I worked like they do I wouldn't get to work in concept design, maybe I'd get a job in HR or IT support.
I'd also tell them whoever originally designed the basic game concepts was a genius and to listen to him/ bring him back.

I met a dev just a couple of weeks ago.
Here's what I said to him: "John Turbefield, thank you for understanding what Eve is all about and for standing up for the interests of the players."
