I'd go for that!
+1
I'd like to see them allow you to change your employment history once as well.
You can do it in real life! Identity change... why not in game too?

CCP discussed this at one o their fanfests.
Because of the way their database works it makes it impossible/extremely difficult to change names.
Also, this has the whole issue of being able to hide after corp theft or scams or whatever, not something alot of people want you to be able to do. Oh, and I might add, this is my signature.

China eve has the same server software as TQ, minus the overpowered servers.

And so it begins.
CCP wouldn't try it on TQ yet based on the statements around the Space Shopping Network.
So it looks like it will be our Chinese friends who will get to test all of these new MTs for us.
The fact that it's being done so soon after the outrage over the last few weeks shows how short of cash CCP must be with the long development of DUST 514 and WoD and the risk to the balance sheet.
People who believed and defended CCP on the basis that they weren't considering game changing MTs - well you are looking at one that was obviously being planned for a while and is now being implemented.
Forget golden ammo, you will be able to change your entire identity. Tell me that ain't a game changer.

The character names on said account should not impact banning. CCP bans the ACCOUNT not the character, plus they would have the record of the name change anyway.
Now that is said, I support this idea +1

"being able to hide after corp theft or scams or whatever"
Whats the difference between using alts for scams or changing name?. I dont know but this is not such a bad idea. If you can change name for example for 35k AUR/ 10plex /3,5B isk, i think its better use of MT than buying non vanity ships.

I doubt they'd be using player names as the primary key in a relational database. More likely it works something like this:
PLAYER TABLE PlayerId = 353465446 PlayerName = "Oyuki Sada"
The PlayerId would be used as a reference in other tables, so you could change the PlayerName without messing stuff up (apart from the game's sandbox of course)

name change is great idea, as long as there would be change history and frequency cooldown. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

This is EVE china, things are always different in China and thus are operated differently. That statement began with "Due to high player request, EVE(China) will now officially open the Name Change Platform for use." Notice how it's different?
By the way if your still worried about how this would impact you here are some details by EVE china: You will need 10,000 CDC in your account to be used as payment for this service. Don't have CDC? Then no pudding for you. You may only use this service on an account that has not either not used this service or only used it once. In other words, you may only have two opportunities to change name per account. Your account must be active, name cannot contain vulgarity, yaddity yadda...
By the way the statement closes with "please help spread news of this service, in order that more communities may take advantage of it" I see we have done that already.

Yup. Your character ID is 90648945. Just click on your char pic to the left and check the "cid" field in the URL.
Edit @ topic: Yeah I don't see how name change would hurt the game as long as the allowed frequency isn't too high. Something like once per year should do it.

I see no problem with it as long as your emploeyment doesn't change, date of creation, etc. You can still track down the guys, just requires a bit more effort.

That is a plain lie, btw. No database schema makes changing a name even remotely hard, unless they've been that stupid during development.

When a character is tainted, you sell it and get another one. There are no consequences in Eve that actually matter.

Yes, as long as there is a tab listing your previous name (kinda like Employment history) i dont see any harm in doing it, only positive effects.
CCP earns some money Players that purchased characters but dont like the name can change it. Players that named their char with a stupid name but have now reached the age of 21-23 can finally realize the error of their ways and change that.
Nothing wrong with that, i doubt any notorious or otherwise well known players will change their names, and even so - they dont just disappear since you have the name change history public for everyone to see.

People can legally & even illegally change their names in real life. There is no RP or gaming reason as to why it shouldn't be an option.
As for technical reasons, regarding data bases and so on, I find that hard to believe because CCP already changes people names that are found to be offensive.
