Can somebody please give me a brief explanation of the reason everyone uses the meta 4 rolled tungsten 1600mm plate instead of the T2 version?
Also, if the rolled tungsten is obviously better than the T2, why don't they just switch the stats so that the T2 is the most sought after plate?
Thanks!

Because rolled tungsten gives exactly the same ammount of armor than the T2 version, but it has lower cpu and pg needs and adds less mass to the ship.
T2 plates just are broken.

The same goes for T2 electronic warfare modules. They use more CPU and consume more capacitor for the exact same effectiveness as meta 4. If they were actually "advanced" and had a higher effectiveness that would be one thing. As is, the prices for meta 4 are much higher due to the uselessness of T2.

This question has brought up before and would be better posted in the ships and modules section.
Basically tech2 is designed to be a reasonably cheap source of high performance gear, but with some down sides. 1) High skill requirements 2) Higher fitting requirement 3) beaten by the best faction/officer/deadspace gear.
But you get better availability and lower cost for slightly worse performance then the best gear. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

Usually t2 mods and "best named" has the same effect but "best named" will have lower fitting reqs and lower skill req. But since t2 tend to be cheaper people use t2 anyways since they usually have the skill. The two big ones that break this trend is armor plates and microwarpdrives. T2 MWD actually have slightly lower cap penalty then "best named" however it uses so much more cap upon activation that 9/10 players will use a "best named" instead since their cap will last longer. T2 armor plates has a higher speed penalty then rolled tungsten.
