Hey, I've been low-sec/null-sec roaming for about two weeks now in a Rifter by myself. I've been trough over a hundred solar systems trying to find a fight.
What I've encountered so far; Nothing, absolutely nothing except gatecamps, gatecamps and more gatecamps. About 90% of them I survive and everything is fine. But, as recently tonight, I jumped trough a stargate ending up in a gatecamp with mobile warp scramblers all over the place and about 40 BC and BS guarding the gate, dead in an instant.
I'm often a quite positive person with a great patience. So lets find the great stuff, shall we? Yeah! Okay, there was this ONE time.. It all began on a dark night, when I sat infront of my PC and played some eve. Then suddenly a Taranis jumped trough the gate, I followed him to the next gate and guess what.. I managed to web him and warp scramble him. After about a minute fight or so I killed him and locked his pod, wich unfortunetly jumped trough the next gate and I lost him. But hey, I got his ship and about 5Mil from the wreck!
Untill a few days ago, I've been "wandering" aimlessly trying to find someone to fight. But recently, I found a gate camp and I was tired of being alone and so on. So what I did was simple; I wrote in the Local asking what it would take for me to join up with them or any other PvP gang. One of them, with a really nice attitude replyed with an evemail saying I should get me some SP(fair enough) and get myself a Dramiel or something like that. I tought, hey I might found some nice guys I could tag along with. So I started looking up what skills I should train, how much the ship costs and such things. Then I realized.. What would they need me for? They don't know me or anything, so they just want me to get an expensive ship, and fly right into their trap and kill me, right?
So there I was, once again hopelessly flying around in my neath looking Rifter...
So I wonder, what does it take to find a couple of nice people and do some null-sec roaming with? Or is this path just stupid for a newbie like me? Should I just un-subscribe and find another game?
Please, don't get me wrong, I do understand that people don't want a complete newbie joining up and just doing.. well nothing really. But still, I want to PvP some. I know all the basic(I think) about D-scan, tackling, watching local and all those stuff.. I just don't know where to start!
Sorry if my english is bad and so, but please understand, I just want to find some nice guys to tag along with. Even if It's only for a night, my Rifter can't mess up the whole fleet, right? It is and it isn't, that's how it is.. But still not?!

Join Faction Warfare and start roaming around low-sec systems between the respective factions. In FW:
- No one really cares what ship you fly (so long as your fits are "okay") - Lots of targets to pick from, "soloing" is indeed viable in some areas - You have an environment that is concentrated with relaxed, yet bloodthirsty, people like yourself - There is always a fleet that's up and active... you just have to find it and/or know the right people to get you in
Make some friends in FW and you will go places. _______________________

Wolf being a fairly low skilled pilot myself, I can understand how you feel. Tackle frigs are a vital part of pvp. When I first got to null sec I had 3 mil sp. The only option I really had was to fly tackle frigs. I quickly learned how vital they are as I was able to aid in many kills using mine. Even in large fleet battles they are useful. So just because you cant fly a tech 2 cruiser or a battleship does not mean you would not be welcomed into a corp.
The big thing is you must be willing to learn and willing to listen. I would also suggest maybe joining a newbie corp that can help you with learning the game more. The nice thing as well is that you will have other players to fly with. While you can pvp solo, its more fun to pvp with a small group.
As you get more experience you can then look into a null sec corp to join. There are a ton out there and while some may have a high sp requirement you may find one that will take a new player into the fold. Most corps like fresh newbies as they can help mold you for the type of fleets they like to run.
Dont give up just remember that this game is best played with friends or other players. If you have any questions you can message me in game on this char. I will try and answer them the best I can.

Thanks alot for all answers, both in-game and on the forum. I just got a little question, what is FW? Is it when you join the militia in a station?
Thanks again, sorry if I sounded desperate(wich I kinda am) or so I just needed some advice where to start. It feels as I got the most basic stuff covered and I'm ready to climb the ladder. Thanks a bunch! It is and it isn't, that's how it is.. But still not?!

Yes, FW is what you join when enlist to the militia in a station. You need 0.5 standing with the faction you want to join. In FW, all players from opposing factions are at war with each other, which means that you can engage without sentry guns intervention. This enables frigates and other small vessels to be viable at gates as they are not single-shotted by gateguns.

Originally by: Wol*** @Crimson Jade I have no problem at all with listening and learning, that's exactly what I want. It just feels like everyone wants you to have atleast a couple of billion skillpoints to be allowed to join them. I want to join a small gang to learn more by experienced players.
I really don't know what you're looking for in this game, but my sole piece of advice would be - don't let one experience cloud your judgement.
There are many corps out there with a low, or non existent SP requirement; they recruit based on (their perception of) player skill and attitude. Because, of course, a ****** with 20mil SP is always going to be a ******. A smart guy with 900k SP and a Rifter is going somewhere.
Check out the recruitment section of the forums, see what the 'lie of the land' is. If you don't find what you're looking for, post an ad. I don't want to make this a recruitment thread, but there are contact details on the left of many avatars here. ---------------

Sounds like the OP might be one of the people who'd benefit from the Agony PvP classes.
They're not for everyone but I can say that I learned something new on each class - and on the roams, both as a student and alumnus.
When I stopped learning something new/relevant I stopped going. Worked for me and a fair few others
Classes range from PvP-Basic to Covops. All of the classes/roams take place in low/null-sec.
The knowledge in your head is more important than the skills on your character. A lot of low-sec corps don't understand that though as their playstyle (camping gates) requires a certain level of SP.

Wolf there are pleanty of corps that have low sp/no sp requirements. There are a few pilots in my alliance with 3 mil sp. So if you keep looking you will find a corp that fits what you are looking for.

First, don't roam null-sec solo and expect to NOT run into a massive gate-camp with bubbles, battlecruisers and battleships. To expect to be able to roam nullsec solo and find a decent fight is not a smart idea. I don't mean to sound condescendng here, just saying.
Secondly, this. It was Brendan Drain's articles that inspired me to look at EVE Online, by the way
Thirdly, the linky link to "The Punisher Plan" that was provided before me is an excelent link with some quality reading and advice on how to solo pvp.

This, and after a while when you can fly bigger/more expensive ships effectively, you'll hop into an assault frigate, stealth bomber or even T1 frigate and realize that being the small guy is the most fun you can have with your pants on.

And maybe, just maybe, you will grease your hair, hop in a Ares, burn in a line 200 clicks and provide warp in for a fleet of battleships and then say "I was there". _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Oh, alot of nice and helping answers.
I want to thank EVERYONE who replied to this thread. I haven't gotten any kills in pvp, but i've managed to survive a couple of fights against Drakes, canes and all those pesky small battlecruisers(comes from the frigate :P). Well, I just wanted to thanks ALOT for all the helps and advices.
I joined a corps public channel and been having some good chat with them, and ->maybe<- I will be able to join them and do some pvp.
Thanks again! It is and it isn't, that's how it is.. But still not?!

I suggest you join the chat channel R-V-B and join either Red Federation or the Blue Republic. Two corps endlessly at war. The two corps are not bitter enemies, they just enjoy no-nonsense pvp and are always at war with each other. Most engagements don't go higher than t1 frigs and cruisers so it is new-pilot friendly. Opportunity to learn alot and shoot some autocannons at plenty of pilots without having to spend hours roaming null only to hit a gatecamp.
Just my two cents.

I will give you the usual suggestions that people who ask about PVP at an early age in eve get because they are all good suggestions. Some have already been mentioned but I will put them in a list for you with some advice on each:
1. Red vs Blue - a very good choice for a brand new player. It is pvp all the time within a limited zone of high sec. They do not pod kill other players. T1 frigs and cruisers are the usual weapons. It is friendly enough and they take everyone who applies. It is not the hard core pvp experience that you may wish for later but it isnt a bad starting point.
2. Faction warfare - you can join the militia in station or you can find one of the faction warfare corporations - these are player corps that have joined the war and are more active and often more skilled than the regular militia is. It does not require you to build up standings first to join them. Whether they will take new members is up to the individual corps. I am sure that some will.
3. PVP training corps like Agony Empire - if you want to go to null sec for that hard core pvp all the time experience this is where to start. Possibly. I have never been in one but have fought against them many times. I am sure that you can learn a ton from them. There are probably more than just Agony empire but they do come to mind.
4. Eve University - for a more general how to play eve type in game school. They do teach some pvp as well. I believe they have opened up to roaming low sec and null sec in recent months so I would imagine you will get a great deal more pvp training now from them.

While I don't have a desire to advertise the corp Im in; Eve University also hosts pvp classes and often do lowsec anti-pirate roams.

I recently joined RVB and have had some fun PVPing. I'm not sure what she has against it, but I don't look at it as an "end-all, be-all" of PVP, but rather a place to start and get a few basics down. If PVP keeps my interest, I may start investigating other things, but I'm not about to listen to someone who only puts something down without adding anything productive to a conversation. |

Well folks, I found what I was looking for. My Rifter? Gone. My pod? Gone. Haha it was horrible because I could've avoided it. Ran into a gatecamp, jumped, instead of jumping again right away......I waited to see what 'they' (there were 3 of them) would do. Man I can't wait to get back out there, but, I think i'll take it easy for a bit. o7 Fly dangerous

Make up your own mind.
The reason is that you are a hypocrite. You were one of the worst offenders when it came to ganking newbs in OP ships. Of course that was apparently the only thing you could manage considering the number of shinnies you granted as kill mails.
I still remember the day you joined you couldn't be arsed to get a T1 ship and insisted on flying an interceptor because I guess you couldn't open the ****ing market tab and buy a punisher.
Your opinion is just that of a bitter loser who couldn't hack it. You also never got it. I look at your loss board and I don't see a single T1 frig loss in the time you were with us. This tells me you weren't participating in the bulk of our activities since there is no way you could have participated in most of our fights and not have lost a few at least, It's just not possible not if you were doing anything other than sticking to cheap ganks.
To the OP RVB is a great place to learn the basics of PVP we've got some of the most creative and best frig pilots in the game (I don't pretend to be one of them).
I do say it's not exceptionally newbie friendly for one reason , cost. You will lose ships you will lose a lot of ships if you aren't a station camping pansy like Lady G.
So it's not a great place if you don't have some sort of income stream, though we have recently adjusted our rules to make it easier for people to mission with out leaving corp by limiting our high sec combat zones to 4 constellations.
We've also moved to a new location that's close to good low and null sec hunting grounds and a lot of our guys like going in there and playing with the local pirates.
What I tell people about RVB is this. You will get as much out of it as you put in. If you sit in station all the time waiting for someone else to make things happen you won't have much fun. If you are the kind of person who can't take losing a ship you won't have much fun.
If however you are willing to undock and look for trouble you will find it, often from people who will happily chat with you and give you advice on what you did wrong after they blow your ship up.
RVB is a great place if you have the right attitude, if you can laugh at your own stupidity and not get all butthurt when someone ganks you then you'll do well.
There are plenty of folks who roam around solo hunting each other plenty who fleet up. We do actually make efforts to make the fights fun and not all one sided ganks (they still happen but that's usually do to bad intel or incorrect assumptions)
Since you have an alternative source of income you'd probably fit in well, it sounds like you do have the right attitude.
Check our our forums for more info.

You should really find people to fly with for now and as it was mentioned earlier in the thread, work yourself on up. One of my fleet commanders is a prolific solo PvPer, he spends his time dividing up gangs and taking off stragglers.
There are some things you just learn over time, but flying with a group of friendly, good guys makes for an awesome evening. Even if there's tedium, you can still chat and shoot the breeze. -------------------------------------------------- Welcome to my Trials and Tribulations. |
