I'm looking to buy a character. I really don't feel like waiting 3+ years for a decent character, so I figured I'd look to spend 5 bil or so for a decent character.
Right now, I am sitting at 700 million.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the isk in maybe a month or so?

Turn GTC into Plex
Sell plex on open market and receive isk.
Oh and btw, if you don't know **** about the game, no number of SP will save you. Just sayin'. Signature removed for not being EVE related. Zymurgist |

A) Buy GTC and sell the plex on the market. #1 fastest way to buy a high SP character.
B) Scam some isks. #2 fastest way to buy a high SP character. Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

A few thing to consider.
- many vets, intentionaly or not will hold it againt you if they find out you purchassed your highest SP char (and we will find out), Its veiwed similar to skiping your rite of passage.
- you may have trouble finding a decent high sp char for around 5 bil, many that are priced cheap have bad reputations, poor standing, or many other things.
- experiance maters just as much as sp, and its very obvious when n old char is being used by a new player.
- half the fun is making your own char and the exitment that comes from. Unlocking new ships and equip.

If you can get the isk then buying a toon is fine imo.
Dont listen to stuffed shirts talking about rites of passage and all that guff.
Just dont get in a supercarrier or faction fit T3 straight away then cry when you lose it all lol.
You still have to learn to fly the ships.
PvP in gangs really isnt that hard once you learn the basics though. lets be honest, theres not so many solo pvpers around these days (those that still do I doff my cap to )
I would advise you to buy a toon with maxed trade for a few bil which should then provide all the isk you'll need. theres plenty of guides out there that will help if you've got the accumen

1) If you're a veteran player who wants another character to perform tasks that you understand - and you know what they need to be able to do to perform those tasks - then just buying a character may well be worth while. You already know how to play the game - you're just taking a short cut by not training up a new character to do what you want.
2) If you are a new player, buying a character is usually a mistake. Yes, the guys got a lot of skill points - but if you're going to go out and use those skill points - the tools to use them (i.e. big expensive ships) are going to require you to spend a lot of RL money on Plex to fund them. Then - because you don't know what the **** you're doing - you're going to go out and lose it - and then have to spend a bunch more RL money on Plex to buy another one. All those skill points don't mean a damn thing if you don't know how to use them.
3) As said above - if you're a new player on a retread character - everyone who works with you is going to know it - and no one is going to respect you. That means - they won't want to fly with you - will laugh when you get blown up - and may even do it themselves.
4) Some of us stuffed shirts do take a lot of satisfaction in doing things for ourselves. That is what's fun. There is no destination. You don't "win" EVE. You play the game and it is the playing of the game that is fun. If it isn't - then having a store bought character you don't know how to use - isn't going to change that.
*shrug*

Granted not everyone veiws it this way, but still be prepared to run into quite a few that do. Its your money, you should just weigh all the benefits / downfalls first.

You don't need to play 3 years to have a "decent character". In EVE it's not about the size of your ship or wallet, it's about WHAT you know and WHO you know and that just takes time, you can't cheat that.
A smart and experienced pilot on a character with just 2 mil SP can be a VERY valuable asset and make or break a large PVP operation consisting of 100s of players, regardless of the fact that they might have 30 times his SP. An idiot, or an inexperienced player, will mostly just be a liability, and actually the more expensive ship he flies the more of a liability he becomes.
Personally I don't like buying characters, I've done it but (this is the RPG player in me) it just feels weird and somehow wrong, so I mostly end up selling them again. There's no attachment because there was no effort or achievement. Doesn't mean I'm all against people buying characters though but what has been stated earlier is kinda true; people do look down on characters bought by people who don't have the matching experience, not because of a "class difference" but mostly because it tends to end in tears.
Having said that, what you CAN do just fine is get yourself a starter character; have the basic/boring skills done like drones, fitting, electronics, engineering. Stuff like that. You're really looking at some 10-15 mil sp char, and 15 is already pushing it. That way it won't have a background or history yet (most of those chars start out at perfectly trained alts who never actually do anything but are for "later use") so they'll be clean.
In the end it's up to you, about making isk you're best to read Akita's thread on that. Running lvl 4 missions is a reliable way to make cash, especially if you combine that with some trading on an alt. You can't "cheat" your way into EVE, it'll just spit you out and laugh at you.

Guide
Everything there is to know about isk in eve :p
But people are right. I have 2 chars atm, both around 12 mil sp, and doing fine. Its not just about how much sp you have. You can be perfectly fine with a low sp character. Focus on the fun, not on the numbers.
