Edited by: Culmen on 20/07/2011 06:26:10 You know what EVE needs. The ability to order stuff in the EVE store for aurum.
I wouldn't pay billions of isk for a monocle that exist purely online. But I would definitely pay billions of isk for a physical ship model to be delivered right to my door step. Ditto with actual real life T-shirts.
This is the definition of vanity product. A plastic ship model right next to your desk confers absolutely no benefit to your ability to play eve.
Aurum is still money, CCP is still getting paid by somebody. Why not get stuff that will actually sell?
and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I kind of agree with this - or some tie in where you buy x vanity item and also get y real item. I even like the idea of getting corp generated merchandise through the Nex store - so it acts like a broker and you can buy T's etc. (a bit hard to police perhaps).
The only thing I wonder is whether the extra isk driven purchase of Plex for AUR will drive Plex inflation.
Well worth considering though, even just to pull the eve store in to the game.

The only problem I see is that the 2b EVE multi-pen with authentic Caldari logo you order will end up costing 320 billion after postage is factored in.

I made a similar topic, the day after AUR was introduced, that topic lasted around 5 minuttes, untill someone removed it. Im happy yours seem to live longer, and i fully support it!

Didn't really think of that. But it's a great idea.
I might buy the monocle if they shipped a nice diecast version to my house as well. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I would buy stuff if I got a real replica as well, otherwise I have no use for decorative in game stuff.
Would be awesome to buy ship models and clothing for your CQ/avatar and have them shipped too, I'd even pay double in aurum for that stuff, but other than that, I like sitting in my spaceship more at the moment, since that makes me isk. :P - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

You think we should design game features in spite of botting - or around botting?

Every action can be justified as combating botting. Up to an including legalizing botting. Basically planning around botting is a waste of time.
Also, if CCP is getting real world dollars for the activity, wouldn't that help their bottom line? and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Wow, yes, that is a total high profit idea!!
Allow players to convert pixels into RL physical merchandise with a RL cost basis.
Are you like a high school drop out or do you think these companies are all charity organizations?
Ever hear the word PROFIT?

Plex => Aurum => Shirt
If done right CCP would profit because a plex would be consumed; and thus never used for gameplay time.
Whats wrong with the idea?

Here is whats wrong with it;
Botter buys shirt with AURUM. The Aurum was converted with in game ISK. The botter then buys a tee shirt. At this point the botter has 20 dollars (or whatever) of real world merchandise that he can sell. Now CCP will suffer dwindled tee shirt sales because you can buy them on Ebay and the flea market.
They have a hard enough time policing virtual items. They have no authority and simply cannot police real world items. They would lose money by offering such a deal.
And really, it doesn't even have to be a botter. It could be me or you or any player that can make enough ISK to convert. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Yea plus I would question the validity of using ingame currency --> real world product.
I don't think CCP could even do this if they wanted IMO.

What kind of weird twisted logic is this?
CCP Sold too many shirts... which means they lose business for shirts because people can get them for cheaper?
If this even made any sense, which it doesn't btw, CCP could care less because they are effectively SELLING SHIRTS. Which is what the whole purpose is; they don't give a **** where the shirts go after they're bought or that they are ending up on the "Flea Market".
Let me make it super duper simple.
1) Player wants $15 shirt. 2) Player converts Plex to Aurum (~$35 worth) 3) Plex DISAPEARS and CCP no longer must honor a 30 day time commitment 4) Player Spends $15 worth of Aurum for Shirt. 5) CCP Loses a shirt but gains $15 (from the plex that was already paid for)
Throughout this entire transaction CCP already received the money (Via the Plex) they've just been waiting for someone to choose what they bought. In fact PLEXes are nothing but "Un-purchased Items", be it game time, a RL shirt or a Monacle.
If bots wanna spam buy a bunch of shirts with Plex, CCP would care because all they're doing is getting rid of excess plex.

I think that 1 month play time is MUCH less expensive to them then a shirt, which is also shipped elsewhere. They'd profit more from just selling it straight for cash.

And how is it more profitable to sell it for straight cash exactly? The moment CCP started accepting PLEX for donation, and started allowing us to convert it to Aurum is the moment we should stop thinking of a PLEX as game time.
It's now more of a $35 prepaid gift card.
At the end of the day, CCP still got handed $35. You can get $35 worth of product from it. and further more why do i even need a sig? |
