Empty slots serve as a sort of heat sink when one overheats their highs/mids. It would be great if players had access to a dedicated module that did a better job of this. Think liquid cooling and the like.
On the other side of the equation there could be the advent of heat based e-war. Ships could fit modules that cause enemy ship modules to overheat. Discuss.

I like the idea of a module for each slot type that adds cooling. I could see that being especially useful for ships with utility slots in the highs (Hurricane, I'm looking at you.)
Heat based ewar could also be useful as well. --Vel

The first idea makes sense, there was a suggestion a while ago to have a range of cooling modules that used coolant as a charge with each use absorbing X amount of heat damage.
The second idea of remote heat damage does not make any sense.
Why is the heat based weapon any difference that thermal damage which ships can already do and can already handle?
Also it would make training the skills related to overheating mandatory for any PVP player and to carry nanite repair paste even if they have no intent to overload their modules.
This is idea that is almost as old as overheating. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

The overheating skills are already very important for PvP players. If you've foregone them you are missing the boat. And the 'ice' modules would come as a ready made counter.
