Edited by: Ghost Hunter on 21/07/2011 20:16:04 An idea occurred to me while contemplating recent events.
A large portion of EVE's history is passed through word of mouth or archives somewhere, be it wiki, forums or what not. In-game representation of some of its history is very sparse: two examples being the old space wedding ceremonial site and the monument outside the Jita 4-4.
What would be everyone's / CCP's thoughts on the idea of editing in-game asset descriptions to keep small snippets of its history? The Sansha planetary invasions, for instance. A new player would not at a glance know that the temperate planet in Leran was completely abducted uplifted by the Nation. They would know this eventually if they bothered to research, but as an off hand "oh that's cool", it's not there. Reschard V is another thing that would be cool to note down, "This planet got wrecked", or some such.
Retrospective implementation would be hellish to do, I think, so I'm not certain on that particular feasibility.
Edit; that initiative CCP is looking into doing with the PF may cover this topic, although I'm not particularly certain. ______

Fantastic idea! would be incredible to just right click show info and see:
-The Elarel beacon for the former Quafe station that got blown up, with a link to an evelopedia article. -The Malkalen station, with a link to the news items. -Descriptions on the prime worlds (Pator, Luminaire, Caldari Prime, New Caldari, Mishi, Lirsautton, Amarr, Mannar, Intaki, etc) with a link to the racial descriptions on evelopedia.
Some of the existing landmarks that depict abandoned stations could also be more interesting when talking about "past events" and how those husks came to be.

There is an effort to do this, sort of... This devblog refers to a project to make evelopedia full of history on all sorts of things.
Granted, it wouldn't be as cool as there actually being monuments in space, but it's something.

This is absolutely a great idea. It seems like CCP has been hinting at wanting to go this way with the lore (at least as far as having it more organic, more in the game than it is now), so hopefully something along these lines is a part of that effort. ~Gnosis~ |

Edited by: Boma Airaken on 22/07/2011 12:02:43 This is always something I thought would be a great idea to let Mercury volunteers do. Sure some goon ****head is going to like 4chan to a planet at some point, but that is easily handled. Give the people with passion some power and this could be handled in a week.
With the new IGB functionality a team of people who know their **** and are willing to volunteer could easily add links to descriptions of celestials in no time.

As I understand it this project is also ment to impact eve ingame. Exactly how though remains to be seen. - Hilmar getur ekki tala= vi= ¦ig n·na, hann er a= fara ß japanska Tfskuverslun.

Speaking as someone who spent a lot of time chasing ghosts over many jumps, I think more in space markers, even if there is no graphic, is a great idea and would vote for it with many points in crowdsourcing.
As I've said (maybe too often) to CCPers on Twitter, the lack of these for those who read the PF is frustrating and misses a great opportunity to add depth.
PS There is no ruined station at Roua 10-2 and no graveyard at Atioth either...
