I am gathering intel on the likely Supercap nerf in order to evaluate whether or not I should set them into my long-term training plan.
So I have moderate capital skills and I am considering training into a supercap. But there is one big problem: Not that I disagree, but I hear that supercaps will be nerfed this fall.
Given that I do not know the specifics on how they will be nerfed, it seems impossible at this time to commit to long term supercap training plans.
While I do have key skills like fighters to 5, the investment of time into preparing for supercap training requires me to gather as much information about the change as soon as possible.
So I ask you, what do we know about CCPs thoughts and plans regarding supercaps? What CCP responses are on record for any of the supercap nerf proposals? What timelines have been established or could be expected for receiving key announcements regarding their plans for supercaps? What times of the year does CCP typically roll out major changes to the game? Additionally and specifically, can anyone confirm that the nerf will happen in the Fall of 2011 by providing a link to a CCP post on the expected date?
Please provide links to whatever posts relate to these questions. Thank you very much in advance. Funny that no one considers themselves evil, even while caught in the thick of it. |

How do we know that you aren't here to perform counter-espionage on those persons who have successfully infiltrated the ~nerfmachine~ already?
I am skeptical of your proposal, spai!

Well i for one know a few facts that should be said:
1) CCP have been asking for peoples ideas on more capital ships. So they may be introducing new caps sooner or later. Maybe combat ships, maybe support, maybe logistical ships... who knows.
2) CCP have said they want to 'reballance SCs'. They said there will be no massive changes (akin to a titans DD from AoE to targeted), just changes in numbers. Considering they are the second biggest ship in the game, the number changes may not be big
3) SCs have virtually the same skills required as normal carriers. So similar in fact it's like training up from a procurer to a retriever. Check the skills out. Just about every skill needed for a carrier would be very useful on a SC, bar the triage mod ofc. So fighters 5 is a good skill to have for both, and allows you to start training for FBs. Cap skills, always important, as are armour/shield resist skills. Capital ships skill should be training to 5, racial carrier the same. Decent drone skills etc.

If everything goes according to plan super carriers will have their drone bays removed and replaced with a rainbow generator and a sound system that plays the greatest hits of The Village People and Cher.

While being fair, this step alone won't discourage masses to long for them. This crap is to be of very limited use to be actually balanced. So limiting its application field is the way to go. ---

since there are only 4 combat cabable caps, and have the following prices: 700m, 1.5b, 18b, 60b... i think there is alot of room for more combat caps to even things out without having to 'deus ex machina' a sub cap to do the job of causing serious doubt

First off, I'm going to assume you're referring to training to be a *good* super pilot rather than a carrier IV, JDC IV, fighters IV(lol) super pilot. If this is not the case I apologize.
Carrier V=super useful. Fighters V=super useful. Jump calibration V=super useful. Electronic Warfare V= not useful at all, but it's a quick ~one week skill.
So...what's wasted, maybe a week of training tops?
How often do you use your carrier that carrier V/fighters V wouldn't be useful if you don't end up getting a super? If carrier V/Fighters V wouldn't be all that beneficial to you now why are you considering trapping that character in a supercarrier anyways?

Jump calib V is kinda hard to call very useful if you use a normal carrier. It is only useful if you use it for logistics and if training it to V means you can do with one jump less. But besides that a carrier can jump further than a super or a dread anyway, and it isnt often that only carriers are used on OPs.

U seem to be very emotionally attatched... Must be a SC pilot ^^ ... N the thought of CCP changing ur precious SC must make u very mad
On another note... I dont believe CCP is nerfing SC's... For once it looks like CCP is actually going to rebalance SC properly ^^ ... We shall all wait and see ^^ ... .

My bet is dreads are made into main dps of cap fleet and supercaps the support and anti structure.
would be logical atleast. seems weird gun boat is vs structure and support is also the dps(and rr, immune, tank, gangboost, ECM)

I agree with this n 2bh dps of fb needs to be lowered so that it is not.more than a dread....

My bet is that SC will lose their drones other than Fights and Fighter bombers. That will or could be a good start to the nerf bat without changing too much in the coding.
But my long term bet is dreads will be boosted so that is what I am training my chars for lvl 5 cap skills in gunnery and siege mod.
But I have them trained up in two races and not much else to train so I hope that this will be ahead of the curve.

super-caps are going to be like super-tanks, both in WOT and more so in reality, I could have trained these last year and did a pass on it as they are super-expensive, super-slow, super lacking in versitilty and super-silly in this game most of the time...
I think EVE was better when the BS was the largest thing out there, Frigates and Cruisers are def more fun to play with, and the game certainly lacks in that area, for a long time.
I seriously hope that the nerf is a broad one for all super/capitals and put the null fleets back to BS and smaller, the main fleets should be of these and the "support" fleets should be of 1-2 caps in it like a RL navy task group, not a huge fleet of caps with some sub-caps tagging along.
Fleets are seriously in need of some rework...
would be nice to see 1 cap in a fleet, with a all sub fleet around it like the flagship it is suposed to be for an corp or an alliance.
CCP should really consider what sizes are realistic for the grid and then scale fleet composition accordingly, alterntively they could simply trade bumping for collisions and then watch the mega-crashes with amusement. I DON'T CARE IF THAT "DOOR" EVER GOES ANYWHERE - and raise prices on NeX, bleed the foppish idiots dry!

You are right. I could fly a Nyx right now if I wanted, and my skills are high enough, but I would probably want to get several skills from 4 to 5 before I did, and that could take a few months. Ironically, I have already taken Fighters to 5. I just haven't done anything with the Fighter bombers skill book (haven't even bought it).
One interesting SC nerf might be that the SC can fit one FB module in the highs for each level of FB and each FB module enables 3 fighter bombers; so that with no FB module, no FBs can be deployed. Or the drone control unit could double as the FB module but only enable one FB per module on carriers. ôThe world is a dangerous place. Was going to get one and had the isk ready when the nerf-campaign started. Too much risk of CCP competely devaluing them outside of 100+ blobs, so I decided to go for a Titan instead (Mittens doesn't seem to hate them as much).

The sollution wouldnt seem all that hard to me.
Dreadnoughts should be given some sort of bonus vs SC (maybe vs carriers and stations too?) so there is a better weapon against them, and they become more interesting to fly anyway.

Just need a capital infini point, with a better way to hold the super carrier, they will take care of themselves.
