a new recycle function that is connected to the whole salvaging business. This means new salvaging skillbooks. Those with higher skill level are able to salvage from other peoples trash more efficiently. And i'm also thinking that one has to go from station to station to pick up the stuff people 'trash'

Ok, well, we can't allow it to work for noob ships or the modules that come on them for obvious reasons.
So what else do people trash that would make this actually worth it? --Vel

surely this problem can be solved by setting a maximum of how many newbie ships can be trashed or given out per day.
question is how much profit people can make out of the recycling bin in every station, and and what kind of % bonuses the salvaging skillbooks should have in order to make the Salvaging Business a reliable source of income and a career that is worth pursuing

Is the salvage business not a viable profession? There's millions of ISK to be made every hour scanning down people's missions at various mission hubs and ninja salvaging their wrecks. You just have to be able to scan too.

No, no it can't. Anytime you talk a bout creating something (salvage/minerals) from nothing (noob ships) you open a Pandora's box of potential exploitation that will damage (to a great or lesser extent) the Eve player driven economy.
Even with a cap all you're doing is minimizing the damage, rather than preventing it. Other items you get from thin air would likewise need to be excluded (I'm thinking of the scan probe launcher that magically appears every time you assemble a Zephyr - or did CCP change that) --Vel

Actually...
1) The only thing anyone should be "trashing" is rookie items. Because everything else can be Reprocessed for minerals, or sold on market/contracts. So what you're talking about is being able to Reprocess the free rookie items and nothing else. This would create minerals from nothing, because you can always get more ships.
2) Shuttles used to be an NPC seeded item. They reprocessed into a handful of Trit. This lead to a guaranteed price for Trit on the market. If you couldn't get a certain amount of Trit for a certain price, you could just buy some shuttles and get that much Trit from them. After a while, CCP changed that, and now Trit and Shuttle values fluctuate like anything else.
So...
If CCP did away with a "buy this, get that" avenue, they're certainly not going to give you a "get this for free, and then get that". |

?????
What is this trash you are talking about? Everything except noob stuff is re-processable to minerals. So that is your recycling right there.
I sometimes do trash stuff I can't be bothered to go get, but that is few and far between.

Edited by: Nezumiiro Noneko on 31/07/2011 23:34:40 If you need a skillbook to make salvage viable....doing something wrong. Even the "crap" salvage can be used in high priced rigs to turn profits. If lazy, or dumb enough, to sell to the crap buy orders rig makers put out....that's not a game mechanics issues, its a player issue.
Vanilla t1 loot....mins. Mins for sale or to roll your own ammo. rolling own ammo sooner you start, sooner your saving some good isk and lots of time. Blueprints for fave ammo in a station you call home...melt loot and in no time flat your got even a small order of 5000 rounds. Cheaper over time and if an isk per efficiency nut....you have 0 travel time. Put order in while taking a new mission and the ammo could ready for pickup when you get back if a small order like 5000 rounds.

Yup you're absolutely right about the 'building your own stuff' with the vanilly t1 loot that you get from missioning. Unfortunately most missioners don't build, and they never will. So the selling mission loot for isk market has to keep growing, a missioner needs to make a decent living. So instead of increasing a missioners loot amount, I say lets create and develop the salvaging business, since it is so close related to missioning anyway and it will fix the low income of a missioner.
Basically instead of reprocessing the 'vanilla loot' such as cap boosters, ammo and other stuff that doesnt sell for high price on market. One can choose to 'recycle' it into salvage materials.
Salvaging has a lot of potential. I am even thinking that in the future even ships could be built together with salvage materials, because building a ship out of minerals is less realistic.

You can already harvest noob ships for value... self destruct, then salvage = 1 unit of metal scraps. Not a very efficient way to make isk, but possible.
