basically my idea is a mining carrier can not be used in hig sec with bonus only to mining drones. a mining mode that enchances mining yeld from lasers perhaps and for mining drones abonus that is added to fleet or just the carrier when solo mining. this mode would meke the carrier unable to move for the duration and runs on fuel. would ofc be a Ore miing capital ship so new skillbooks and so on. also add new type of mining drone for the carrier and a special module fitted in high on the carrier where you put mining crystals or scripts into it that will be used up but enhances the miing yield for that particular type of ore for the drones. bonuses from skill would be maximum mining drones controled and max speed of the drones. the idea is to give the miners somethign new to trian for and since it owuld only be useable in low and 0 sec it wouldnt be used to much by boters. cruiscial that it either has same yield or better then a hulk to make it worth it to have.

Lots of us have already talked about a industrial carrier.
Problem that is always suggested is that ccp and the game iself don't want of need a mining vessel better than the hulk. The introduction of a better mining vessel solo or fleeted would kill the ore markets. The fact that it's a carrier and can't go into high sec makes no difference. Matter of fact, it probably makes it worse.
It would strongly reduce the prices of rare ores and would ruin low, null, and wormhole ore prices.
Atleast, that's the majority of what people have said in a nut shell

considering it would be a major target for any roaming gang as it has to be in the belt and not hiding at the pos like the other industrial caps. somehw it would balance itself out in a way im not saying it should outmine the hulk by a factor of 2 or 3 here maybe 1.5 or so but also provding hulks with and added boost to their mining drones possably a hulks mining drones 50% more effective then just with normal boosts. basically a mining boosting ship that will be in the belt and mine with the rest of the mining fleet.
most of the numbers im pulling out of the air there to give an idea of what i mean

True... it may be a nice juicy target... provided that people have the numbers to take it down in the first place. Capital ships have, on average, about 1 million EHP to chew through. If you only have 2 or 3 guys attacking you, the capital can just log off and disappear in about 15 minutes. More than that, capitals tend to have massive capacitors and access to capital reps and remote reps which bring back huge chunks of HP. No... if you idea came to fruition you would probably see "pantheon" mining fleets (I must admit, that WOULD be a sight to behold)... each mining capital equipped with a capital remote rep or two... 1500-3000hp repaired every 5 seconds per capital... if attacked they would continue mining and shrug off all but the largest of attacks. |

well making a dedicated mining carrier then it would be for mining only as such giving it reduced amount of slots for forinstnae reping you would want it to mine maximum at all times as a hulk has 3 high slots u dont make a hulk wiht 2 strips and a remote repper same way you make the mining carrier not able to fit remote reppers or make it cap unstable or for that matter make it have way less hp then a normal carrier giving that up for more cargo room al hte issues u bring up there is easily addressed with stats balancing on the mining carrier |

Edited by: Narisa Bithon on 26/07/2011 19:36:50 i always thought the orca was a dedicated mining carrier for high sec and the rorqual does it for low and null sec.
both carry mining ships.... both have drone bays.... what more do ya need?
now a t3 mining barge i'd like

But then would it be a capital ship at all? Or would it just be a really beefy sub-capital "capital" the way Freighters are?
The five things that make a capital ship a genuine capital ship (in my mind at least) are thus:
1. Cannot enter high-sec (0.5 and above) 2. Cannot use stargates 3. Uses a Jump-drive to get around 4. Uses capital mods 5. Has a fair bit of "staying power" (i.e. has a lot of EHP, capacitor, and point defense and needs more than a few people to bring it down)
I think the real question here is "why?"...
- why would you need a capital ship that can only mine just as much as a Hulk? - why would you need a new gang-boosting ship when we already have the Rorqual, Command Ships, and T3s? - why do you need a new ship that can "do it all" (i.e. mine, defend, haul, and give bonuses)? - why would this not obsolete the use of certain ships (mineing barges) in a number of situations (0.0 and wormhole mining)? _______________________
