Originally by: CCP Fallout We hope to deliver 1,000 Aurum to the wallets of all active EVE Online accounts this Friday, July 29.
I appreciate the gesture, but can I contribute my 1,000 Aurum to the CCP Bug Fixing Fund? I have a feeling the account is a bit low these days. Specifically, could you please put it towards fixing the modifier key behaviour and/or making drones actually do what they're told?
Can we expect such fixes on Friday, July 29, or will I have to wait for my donation to mature in a 5-year GIC before it can be applied to the Fund?
Sorry, but it appears the lack of communication and time between quality fixes is making me a tad bitter. I'm sure you can understand.

1000 aurum?
Tbh, I dont really pay any attention to that nex ****, but isnt that less than you can buy ANYTHING for?
Surely its not some cunning ploy whereby they give you a little bit of a currency, but not enough to actually BUY anything, hoping that will persuade people to cash in more plex?
Nah, cant be... CCP have far too much respect for the playerbase to pull an underhanded marketing ploy like that shurererly

I'm aware of both that and the future handouts adding up to enough to buy stuff. If I end up with cumulative gifts of 100,000,000 Aurum in my account, I'd like to donate 100,000,000 Aurum to the CPP Bug Fixing Fund as described above.

Do you really think you're addressing CCP on this forum? Do you really think they have someone assigned to glean these erudite and logically composed complaints to carry them forth to the powers that be? Are you imagining them in their board room cowering before such stout textual outpourings, panting and trying to cleverly disguise their moves from the likes of such disapproving posters (postees)?
In truth this sort of post, and the millions like them over the past two months equates to no more than textual bedwetting. Even a lowly dog wouldn't pee in his own bed. The forum is hardly worth looking at now since it's been overrun by digital do-gooders who can't route their complaints through the proper channels.
But, go ahead. Babble in the library. Yell "water" in the crowded theater. Feel smart, decisive and resolute when you do it. The rest of us will wait till this "community" grows up. We have no choice.
May CCP be as fair to you as you are to us.

First, employees of CCP do, in fact, read these forums. But more importantly, new and would-be members read these forums while on their trial and/or before deciding to subscribe.
The overall tone/feel of a forum gives a first-impression for a game free of marketing and hype.
So yes, numerous posts complaining about persistent and untreated bugs and a failure of CCP to communicate with their customers about known bugs very likely brings down their chances for new members and in turn their ability to fund necessary fixes and ongoing content development.
But, quite frankly, any company that fails to do well by its customers deserves to collapse like any government which fails to do well by its people. Many of us, myself included, will miss them. But this is unlikely to happen.
Perhaps someone at CCP (or any worried shareholders on the forums?) will decide that a more positive tone in the forums would be a good thing. And to get that, drastic internal improvements will have to be made.
A dog will pee in its own bed, on your couch, or wherever it feels the urge if you, the owner, stop treating it with respect. Cats, if you neglect their litter or try to toilet train them too fast.
Don't confuse peaceful protest with the likes of the Vancouver 2011 Riot.. textual bedwetting, indeed. heh

A whine would be "waaah, I want to buy nex stuff". I could afford everything in the nex store many times over but that would be dumb. Like the NEX stuff. Then again, I dont have to sell GTC to make my isk
The point I was trying to make, that seems to have soared like an eagle over your thick skull was that its a CCP marketing ploy. Duhhhhh.
Incidentally, may I say how much I admire the courage your forum alt displays with its ceaseless trolling and general douchebaggery over the last posts it vomited out.

i'm sure those monocle sales will keep pouring in
hey, if you ever get around to it. dreads are worthless, 0.0 sov sucks, ships and weapons could still use some balance/tweaking, FW is the same state you left it in 5 years ago (****ty and unfinished), supercaps are still ******ed and ppl are starting to wonder if there will be anything else t3 released before this game actually dies.
no rush or anything. its just the actual game we pay to play, i'm probably the only one that feels this way. in fact, forget i said anything *cough*sw:tor*cough*

It will buy you boots. Or you can save it until we get next 1000 AUR and then you have 2000 AUR to use which will buy one of several items.
Or just wait until we get all 4 rewards, for total 5500 AUR.

Edited by: Mr Kidd on 27/07/2011 12:51:00 Nope, 1000 aur won't buy anything. But, it effectively discounts an item that someone may be willing to pitch in a little extra cash to be able to afford.
Realistically, this is an indication that the NeX is not as successful as CCP hoped. Otherwise, no company in their right mind gives away free product that is selling like hotcakes.
It's also an indication that their current pricing strategy is too much to make the NeX the success it could have been.
Really, 1000 aur is nothing. CCP would find the NeX store much more appealing if for 1 plex people could buy a whole wardrobe albeit average quality pixels only. But, no, it takes 2 plex to purchase 1 item for most things.
If CCP did it right they wouldn't even have to design different clothing for different price points. Just have hi-resolution, medium resolution, low resolution quality renders of the same Fing cloths at different price points.
CCP should give me a job to whip their NeX into shape.

So... at current PLEX prices ~360mill/ea, they're injecting about 100 mill isk worth of their virtual items currency into the game per account.

They're not injecting isk into the game since there isn't any aur -> isk conversion. If someone bought an item with intent to sell it for isk there's still no injection of isk since it already existed.

Edited by: Ciar Meara on 27/07/2011 13:10:00 Offcourse it is a marketing ploy. It is a reward for sharing stuff on a site build by marketing to market the game on social networks.
As a reward you get something you can only use in the NeX store wich is essentially another item which needs marketing. They know from research that once you do one purchase in a store like that you are very likely to do it again so they'll keep pushing aur until you cross that treshold. That 1000 AUR doesn't buy you anything doesn't matter, the goals are:
1: make you accustomed to AUR as a currency 2: make you check out the store 3: make you buy onething "just this once" 4: profit
Its like the guy on the corner of the street that keeps selling you crack until you try it "just the once". - Hilmar getur ekki tala= vi= ¦ig n·na, hann er a= fara ß japanska Tfskuverslun.

What, you've never heard of a company giving out free samples of their goods to entice people to buy more down the line? Business 101.

Boy am I happy you don't actually work for CCP. Your idea there is very, very...dumb. CCP is smart and doesn't want to intentionally ugly up their game. ______________________

I'm sticking to the belief that CCP intentionally wanted the NEX pricing strategy to be criticized - as a distraction from the State of the actual game. Even most kids can rationalize that the best pricing strategy is to start off with cheap goods, to get people in the door, then add more expensive items to get their money.
As for this 1,000aur..... Thanks for this thread. Without being told about this, I would never have known as my account will expire in 8 days and I doubt I'll log in, even to change my final skill, before then. The real question is: will this injection of 400B ISK worth of virtual wealth, into the EVE economy, give me even the slightest desire to log in one more time? Nope.

Yes, and in every case it was because sales did not meet initial expectations or, it is done on the initial offering of a new product.
Remember, CCP isn't sending free aur to people who aren't already subscribed to entice them to partake in their MT cornucopia. I've seen no "Join now and receive 1000 aur" promotionals. They didn't offer the aur at the initial release of the NeX. They're sending free aur to established customers who are thoroughly informed of the product offering a month after the release of the product.
Had they had offerings of free aur for new accounts or free aur to existing accounts upon the initial opening of the NeX, THEN your business 101 statement would be justified. Perhaps you should take business 201.

The initial release of the really expensive items was to gauge the percentage of players that are absolute gluttons for NeX. Now they're baiting the less enthusiastic with free Aurum and in the next NeX expansion there will be cheaper items that people can buy with the Aurum they got.
It's transparent marketing strategy. --------

If you dont see all 15 items in NeX, clear cache. There used to be a bug where you only saw initial 8 items in NeX and not 7 items added a bit later. I don't know if that bug has been fixed already, but if not, clearing cache will make all items visible. (ESC > reset settings > clear all cache files)
