5,500 per active account. ~230,000 active accounts.
So thats 1,265,000,000 Aurum.
PLEX = 3500 Aurum @ $15 USD. Aurum/USD = 234 Aurum/dollar
$5,405,982.91 About $23.50 per customer.
I think this is the largest internet giveaway of all time.

Edited by: Nex apparatu5 on 27/07/2011 21:36:48 I was about to post how CCP was giving away nothing, because Aurum is essentially worthless.
Then I realized it was a Tom Gerard thread.
Well played, sir.

I can give you a notepad-file with an arbitrary number. How much do you think that is worth?
Aurum isn't manufactured, no cost involved.

Except it isnt a troll, think of it like this
RL cash = Plex = AUR
Therefore because CCP are giving AUR to everyone they are really giving away RL cash, just proves that CCP doesnt care about giving away money.

The NeX dev blog had some pictures of the new cloths they are going to be adding, which i think looked pretty cool. I have no idea when they are going to release the new items, but i think i'll just save the give away aurum and use them when there are more items to choose between.

No we paid for them to make all the content with our subs they want more money to let us have parts of that content now and to push people to try the NEX store and thus spend more money there they are offering a taste. Data shows that people are more likely to use the store after they have tried it and people are more likely to use it if you let them do so for 'free'. Except it isn't free we paid for it and some people are paying for it yet again with their work to do the marketing for EVEisreal.
Drug dealers give away drugs to get people hooked or turned on to using and then they charge. Difference is drug dealers actually give away something that has value, CCP isn't giving anything that has real value they are giving away magicked AURUM not made from PLEX but from thin air, open dev terminal enter item to be distributed and amount and poof there it is. Even if they did use PLEX it is their PLEX, so they'd pay themselves to make PLEX then make aurum the cost $0. It would actually be worse if they used PLEX in game because it would mean they magicked up lots of ISK w/o any work/effort/etc to then take PLEX out of the market to reduce their liability to provide a real service 30days of gametime.

We pay them for access to their servers and the accounts we use, besides items from the NeX store can be traded on the market just like plex and payed for with isk, you are not forced to spend any real money if you don't want to.

We pay them to make the expansions, they aren't free, we also volunteer to test those expansions and additional content for free. We also are testing WOD content which we pay to develop AND have EVE suffer while it is worked on. Some of us even pay to promote EVE and make the game bearable and easier to deal with through sites/services/applications which all contibute to player enjoyment and retention which equals money for CCP.
Items from the NEX can only be traded after CCP gets paid on top of a subscription fee to provide access to the NEX through Aurum or in this case magicks up some Aurum to tempt players into using the NEX store hoping they'll do it again and next time pay CCP themselves.
We are forced to support the whole NEX system if we use, trade, sell or buy NEX items since they can only exist after another player PAYS for the priveledge OR CCP hands out free AURUM gold to lure players into supporting the system at no cost to themselves.
The whole point of having the items resellable is to lessen the sting of the pure pay for content aspect so we all don't HAVE to pay CCP ourselves just someone else can do it for us.

The software license you agreed to, clearly states you are not entitled to receive any expansions or updates, but CCP may choose to provide them. We pay them for access to a service they provide, and the right to use their software.

You mean a company with programming expertise that has been giving things to all accounts for years hasn't yet figured out how to automate that. Do tell.

This.. Your subscription fee, monthly payments or individual payments are not entitling you to new content, you don't even own your account, you rent your account and access to the servers to play the game. CCP owns everything, they even have the right to stop all development fullstop and just run the servers as they are and spend all our sub money down the pub.
It really bugs me that people go on and on about being entitled to this and entitled to that when they're entitled to absolutely nothing, it's amazing how many people there are that even though they're in high paid jobs or have lots of qualifications have absolutely no clue about the reality's of life and how it works.

If you think EVE is worth the sub as it was when released with no development or it is now with no new development or if you think that the game is worth the sub JUST to access something you don't own, but rent, you are a fool. It clearly ISN'T a polished product now or when it was released, and it will likely NEVER be a polished 'finished' product worthy of the kind of payments we make now for it. The continued payments on a broken, unfinished product are to support, maintain, and improve on it otherwise it wouldn't be worth paying for.
If EVE was sold as it is with no new development it would die off, knowing it won't be improved on, or have anything new added, etc the cash would stop flowing. CCP knows that and that is why they have promised to build new stuff or go back someday to fix this or that with what you'd call 'free expansions'. Otherwise they'd do as you say and just provide access to the servers and maintain them as people like you claim as the only thing our sub get us.
There is your reality of life and how it works.

That's why CCP choose to continue development on eve, but that still does not change the fact that they are not forced to do so. CCP choose to develop eve in a fashion that keeps their product profitable, which most of the time is keeping the consumer happy. Other times they care less about what the consumer likes, and adds content that makes the marketing department happy.
In the end it's CCP that decide if they want to make expansions or updates, and the amount of money they receive in monthly subscriptions is probably the determining factor, but that does not mean that your monthly subscription fee entitles you to anything else then right to log on the eve servers.
