Edited by: Barbelo Valentinian on 28/07/2011 20:52:07 If you have to do more clicks to do the same thing, that's reduced functionality in my book.
I know this has been done to death, I don't care. We all know that reasoned arguments make not a ha'porth of difference to CCP, they only react when players make an absolute stink over something - in contrast to how they were even up till 4 years ago. It's been getting worse and worse (one must presume it's an artefact of them having grown unwieldy large as a company, for their small-company management style).
So we should keep making a stink. Never compromise, never surrender.
They need to know that this was a dumb move. I don't care what the Peruvian Flake tells them when they're bigging themselves up at parties or whatever, about what a great marketing move it has been to shove the CQ in everyone's faces, and how fearlesss they are for doing it, I'm telling them it's possibly one of the stupidest things they've ever done, guaranteed to irritate and turn off any vet coming back to try out the game.
(And I say this as someone who actually likes Incarna, who absolutely will use it, and play dress up, and smuggle or whatever, when it's multiplayer and more functional, and who thinks that, although at present obviously spartan, it has great possibilities and is technically very well done (my comp has absolutely no problems with it whatsoever). The reason I'm using THE DOOR is that I have a serious lore beef with the concept of de-podding EVERY FRICKEN' TIME I DOCK AT A STATION!!! So have turned it off until a) it's multiplayer, b) it has more going on, and c) hopefully adheres to the lore better (de-podding on a landing ... please!).)
I have a fricken' spaceship, I want to SEE my spaceship and INTERACT with the fricken' thing.
Hmmm ....
OK CCP ...
How about this as a compromise then: when you dock you appear in CQ on the landing, facing your spaceship. You can r-click and double click on your spaceship, drag and drop, etc., as you used to be able to, all you can't do any more is spin it. If you have CQ off, you just get a picture of your ship, but you have the same direct interaction by clicking and draggin and dropping on the picture
I can live without the spinning - sure it was fun, but a billion times more important was the slick functionality and immersion of being able to directly interact with your spaceship, change modules, do whatever, and then undock, with minimum faffing about.
I'd be happy with that. Incarna being a hog for some, and all that, I'm sure is just technical stuff that'll be sorted out eventually. But not being able to interact with your g****mn spaceship and losing that slickness and speed that you've been used to for years, is just a royal, and totally pointless PITA. *****

There are probably a lot more then one example, but in general it's not expected that people repeat the same pattern of failure over and over expecting different results. Not being able to profit from experience is not a good thing.

A few people seem to have missed that
1) If you are using tabs like a previous poster, then you must be using the merge windows with station services option. That is your choice to flip between tabs.
2) Keep your ships window open (I keep mine in the right center bottom). Your active ship is highlighted.
3) You can double click that highlighted ship

The sad part is, even with the reduced functionality, the door version is better than (or at least the equal of) the CQ version. There's literally nothing you cannot do just as quickly with a click of a button rather than move some clunky, 2007 graphics, avatar around while watching him scratch himself.

Irritating, yes, but I've always used the Alt + C shortcut to open my cargo. Just as quick as double clicking without having to browse to any menus.

Awful lot of people making the "it's not that bad, you can still use xxxx" argument... Clearly they didn't read the previous posts. The option not to load station environment has been around for years. There was absolutely no reason to change the code of the previous static environment to the door other than to be vindictive, or to coerce people into using incarna.

What is so effing difficult about hitting ALT-C.

Granted I usually used both but it's faster to do keystrokes than doubleclicking.

Allow me to introduce you to the concept of "redundancy" - it means "many different ways of doing the same thing", as in, people have different preferences in the ways they like to control things. Had EVE been a game with only hotkeys from the beginning I'd've used the damn hotkeys, as it happens, EVE had the possibility of clicking straight on the spaceship, r-click conext menu and drag and drop right from the beginning, and generally I like doing things that way, unless (as with combat hotkeys) it's necessary for speed.
Incidentally, I find ALT combos particularly repugnant because of the windows key nowadays (at least on UK keyboards); CTRL and SHIFT combos I use a lot because they're at the edge and easy to hit.
Anyway, wise software developers will, if they have time, build in lots of redundancy so everyone can find their own little intuitive "path" of controlling things. CCP were wise developers like that at one time - it seems they've lost that little bit of common sense. *****

Grab a screwdriver and flip those ****in windows out, it's the first thing I do with every keyboard I own. Yes they are a giant pain in the arse.

Technically they did not reduce functionality as you can still open the cargo, they changed the behavior.
The fact that you had to add the word "technically" there speaks for itself.
Well just to be clear, I agree with the sentiment of the OP. My thinking is that if you are going to try and make an argument, being as accurate as possible is the best way, regardless of what Fox News has taught the masses.
It also helps not to be insulting, but people seem to be going absolutely insane over trivial things so I don't think that message will break through at all.

it wouldnt be so bad if there was something decent behind the door, last thing you want is to open a door and be faced with gallente interior design.

+1 agree with OP
I have me ships and mods set on the station panel but I use to double click the ship to open cargo or right click it to open drone bay, now I have to ****ing fumble around between ships and items tabs to move **** into cargo etc. Of coarse I could just have the ships and items icons on the left side of my screen and open them in separate windows but I DON'T LIKE DOING THAT! I like doing it the way I have been doing it for years as I find its less cluttering and easier and reduces stress |

There's a certain quality that Eve has to maintain in order to keep players. I think the sad truth is that they're far enough above that line that they can afford some degradation of their product.

Second, in the static view, you can't tell at a glance which ship you are in. "You don't remember what you docked with a moment ago?" you say? Well, say this is on my alt I haven't played for a week or two, and I need him in the right ship NOW.

The Door has to be the dumbest in-game blunder CCP made in Incarna. I say in-game because nothing can match their out of game PR fustercluck of epic proportions.
How CCP ever thought showing CQ abstainers The Door would work out ok, is beyond my reasoning.
Still, at least we got some classic comedy out of this screwup. See my sig and the other recommended videos after watching it - some very funny Door and Eve is Real parodies. Yep, I'm laughing all the way to my sub's end in 12 days... -- The Door! |

3 days for me. As for the hologram, trying to use that involves CQ. For too high a percentage of EVE players, CQ introduces a new feature, the burning smell of plastic and electronics. CQ will 'run', but you'll see the card trying to deal with the Carbon coding and get hotter and hotter.
I'd show you the effect that has on subscriptions, but we're not allowed to see that anymore.
I see the 'crowd-sourcing' vote put up today, and from what I can see, the recent issues aren't votable? Learning... |
