Engine development is time consuming and complex, and is done according to gameplay design. Maybe not at CCP, but you don't build an engine before you know what the nuts and bolts will be. You don't change core gameplay with a completed engine unless it's components facilitate those changes, or you feel like rewriting core rendering, which is dumb. Now it seems like you're the one who's out of arguments. Enough fallacy games. You are incorrigible.

"If you think one needs to have a job in a game studio to know how a development team (or several) work, then you're more naive then you look. "
If you truly believe this, nothing anyone says, even a tenured prof, will convince you. You obviously know better than everyone else at everything. Definition of naive, to believe you know everything with 0 experience.

As I posted already, only gamers opinions matter in games. Your development opinion matters in development.
That's not true at all! Developers beta test too, and nothing is ever written in stone, even at beta stages. Changes are happening all the time, and we ARE gamers. That's like saying car designers don't need to know how to drive!
No, its like saying what I said; you don't develop EvE so STFU about the development of EvE. If you wanna talk about the game experience go for it. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

I WAS talking about the game experience when the know it all decided to try and tell me he knows game development better than someone who actually does it. Read up if you must

You talked about finishing mechanics, not changing core gameplay, those are two entirely different animals. You don't need to wait for a team that's working on the engine in order to finish and polish mechanics that are already in place.
Mechanics tat aren't finished aren't finished because the teams working on them didn't manage to finish them. It's that simple- For sure not because they were scratching their belly in order to wait for the carbon team to finish it.
Oh by the way, saying that immersion isn't determined by game design is utterly laughable. There are SEVERAL elements of game design that are conducive to immersion. Guess what, between them there's the ability to identify with a custom character.
Oh, and as an aside, you talk about priorities, but you didn't even notice that bringing the engine up to date is a hell of a priority for a game developer offering a game that is eight years old.
You CANNOT avoid some of your old players leaving. Some will inevitably grow bored, some will want to try other newer games. Renewing the engine means grabbing new players, that are needed in order to replace the old ones that inevitably leave.
Unless you want to play by yourself, of course. -- Abriael

Ignorance is your bliss. Arguing anything with fanboys who can't listen to anything but their own voices is pointless. It's like being rational with fundamental christians, beating your head against a solid wall of ignorance and denial. You'd argue the earth was flat if I said it was round- your loss

Just wanted to correct the guy who keeps saying "Eve was always meant to be a Sci-Fi simulator..."
Wrong.
The whole "sci-fi simulator" didn't come out until 2005 or 2006 - devs said that, in so many words. Eve was never expected to get so big, they never had a "plan for the future".
Just had to say that.
Continue. Wormholes: The *NEW* end game of Eve - Online: No Local. No Lag. No Blues (No Intell Channesl). No Blobs. |

I would also like to congratulate CCP on a job well done. I am glad they have finished all the unfinished features like WH's, PI, sov, POS, missions, gun balancing, ship balancing, cap ships, super cap ships and all the useless ships, mods and items in the game that are hardly ever used.
Well done CCP, keep up the good work, maybe in 18 months or so we will see something, right? Oh wait, polishing unfinished content doesn't draw in crowds but lying about micro transactions then implementing it does. Damage control also works, when thousands of people cancel their subscriptions and you need to run to apply plasters everywhere because you have no idea what you're doing.
Excellent job, don't ever stop.

Originally by: Spumantii Note the entire development cycle for most FPS games is fully HALF the time it took to release a graphics engine that melts brand new cards, probably because of inefficient rendering and lighting, in order to run an unfinished environment the extent of which is about 25 feet wide, which has zero impact on gameplay, which 99% of players have disabled. Meanwhile, game mechanics remain in various unfinished states. Epic waste of effort, how you can be impressed is beyond me tbh.
I have no problems running both accounts with station environment at a smooth FPS on my $120 graphics card.. People with thousand dollar systems that can't run the game makes me lol.

Good for you, not all PCs run the same way. Enough people have had issues with it that there's a sticky dedicated to the issues. Just browse for 2 minutes, you'll find plenty of people with problems.
