Starting from -5.88, it will take over 400 battleship rat kills for me to reach -2.0, if my calculation is correct. This seems ridiculously boring, and I'm not interested in the bounties or salvage.
Do you think we could bribe CONCORD with AUR? The military style of the clothing available for purchase would suit them, I bet. - gallenteprime.com |

I picked up something interesting about this from EVE University. Let me see if I can get it right. Security status increases are rewarded for the highest rated rat you shot in one system within ten minutes. That means if you spend ten minutes shooting a hundred rats, only the one with the highest bounty will count to your security status increase.
Their suggestion is to find five systems easy to daisy chain, so you can hit all five within ten minutes. Warp to an asteroid belt and shoot one rat. Warp to the next system, belt - shoot rat...then the next, trying to shoot a rat in each system within ten minutes.
That will raise your security status pretty fast...relatively speaking. Certainly faster than browsing the asteroid belt set in one system for thirty minutes.
edit Of course the lower the sec of the system, or higher the bounties, the higher the sec status bump.
I trust this has been adequately confusing. My karma ran over my dogma. |

I had to rat back up from -7 once. Never again. I don't think it took 400 battleship kills though, even with low Fast Talk skills.

The fact that you reached -5.88 in sec status obviously points out that you did naughty things in high-sec or low-sec to get that low. I got one piece of advice for you if you want to build up your status:
1. More grinding and less "yarring".

Besides your math being a little bit fail...
Go lowsec or nullsec and rat. Stick to at least 3.0 or lower to ensure more BC and BS rats, use a HAC or BC...a regular cruiser can kill the BS rats, but it isn't exactly a speedy process.
Now then, oh lost and math-depraved pilot, use your map - it has many useful statistics. Use traffic to see what systems have low traffic. Because a BC can kill rats pretty fast (and a HAC faster), your only REAL concern is gate camps. You'll jump belts too fast for anyone to really get a hold of you generally. Presuming you actually EARNED that security status, not just got it for ****s and giggles, you'll already know how to handle yourself in low/null.
It will take several hours, but such is the price you pay for being naughty. Should you enjoy piracy and want to continue it, either get an alternate for when you feel like carebearing or l2pirate and start making isk at your chosen career. (One is significantly easier than the other of course)
