Pretty clear that this represents a huge step backwards, in terms of gameplay and most importantly, CCP's bottom line. Server populations are way down from this time last year, and the prompt removal of QEN (which trumpeted these kinds of statistics in the past) is pretty clear evidence of this.
Its clear that the combination of a pointless product, indestructibility, and idiotic pricing, that the NeX has very limited appeal, and that appeal will shrink over time. (After all, only so many monocle-trollers out there, and they have made their purchases already.)
So, any bets on CCP's next move? If past history is any guide, they will just abandon the NeX store, like FW, like T3/subsystems, supercarriers, and so many other half-baked efforts.
But as this is a crass money grab, I imagine they will respond like a petulant child. Our intransigence will cause them to "double down on stupid". P2W items MUST appear. Maybe not 'gold ammo' but, apparel that affects the game somehow, similar to hardwires. Indestructible implants, yay.
Anyone else notice that Faction Tower production has been removed from the game? Guess where they are going to appear? Yep. NeX.

Nex move will be to add some more expensive stuff to the NeX store and some medium priced. Low price will come by winter, along with some really expensive Christmess specials. --------

You can bet your bottom AURUM it will be things like learning speed boosts and faction standing scrying. At least players will find those useful and buy them - new players the former, older players the latter.
Still wont' be "gold ammo", strictly speaking. Still to early for that, and the current playerbase's arses are still too raw - that will probably come a year or so down the line, after the present hullabaloo has been forgotten, and players (especially new ones who have come in since Incarna) are used to the above mentioned items (and no doubt other similar things that can be removed from the game and then re-sold to us).
Also, of course, they will step up the ADVERTISING.
Moar ADS ftw!!!!
(Oh, almost forgot - of course, eventually the Jovians will be a playable P2W faction, for mucho AUR. You can absolutely guarantee it.) *****

Edited by: Nehmen Geld on 31/07/2011 15:42:29 The game is simply too complicated to entertain the masses. And while we're far from being a bunch of brain surgeons I don't think that dressing up, walking around, emoting, and so on is going to be entirely attractive to the current players. So, next step is to dumb down the game so that more people will join. If the game is less about mastery of mechanics then the new emerging player base will accept MT.
Dumbing down is good because most people are stupid. For example, the iPhone wasn't the first smart phone. There were plenty of smart phones around before the iPhone, even going back to the late 90s. The iPhone worked because:
a) it could be operated with one finger (note: no opposable thumb required) b) it made farting noises c) people like it when inanimate objects make farting noises
So my guess is that the game will be made "more accessible".
Edit: I just made a 23 jump journey to drop off a BC at my corp office. Then I headed back 23 jumps to pick up another one... only to realise I did the 23 jumps back in the original BC... FML! That would NEVER have happened if I could SEE MY ****ING SHIP instead of my BACK!!! :) |

The problem is if CCP dumb EvE down for the MT/F2P/P2W crowd they put themselves knee deep into more competition than they have now. Do you think the instant gratification crowd will play EvE or games like this for example, and there are even more games on the way.
The way things are going I have to wonder if an outside consultancy group has been engaged to advise CCP on how they should move forward into the future. One thing I've learned from dealing with business consultants, is you have to be very wary of believing their "we'll turn everything into gold" hype.

If this is going to be NeX online with advertisements fed from all the available sources, I would like to...
- Get that information sooner rather than later. - Gain possibility for us subscription payers to opt out from all NeX content. - Forward all subsciption fee profits to add free EvE online; "spaceships are serious business"-game and zero real life iskies to cloth designers. - Send Mr Hilmar and NeX marketing team to explore the galaxy (1 way ticket to Mars).
Now... I just fixed EvE.
--- This is one of the moments where we look at what CCP does and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change |

Marketing "experts" and their clueless nonsens is what for decades have brought EA closer and closer to the well deserved abyss. These people utterly ruined Spore and Dragon Age 2 by targeting a market of idiots that is not at all as big as they claim. Will be funny to see if SW:TOR really is a WoW-clone with SF skins. The garish colors seem to imply it.

What I dont understand is why the Nex Store Isn't featured in WoD? Surely the Nex shop (in its current format) lends itself to dress up Vampires etc? ...EG oooh look at this Vampire he must be hard because he has a Bat Monocle!
IMO It would make more sense. The fact that I can buy some nonsense pixels in the form of clothing or apparel (for me) breaks the immersion of my internet spaceship game. All I can see that it has done is become divisive....
Aurum: ..You can shove that where the sun don't shine tbh! Unless, It is the primary currency for DUST ...in which case we can talk. and YOU can tell me all about how it's going to work.

Define success.
If CCP is trying to make money and/or significantly reduce PLEX stockpiles via NeX, then MT is a failure.
If CCP is developing the tools and infrastructure to build MT items and is also trying to gain some experience in implementing an MT store, then the NeX store could be considered successful.
IMHO, NeX isn't for Eve players.
Look at the focus of NeX items. It's a limited selection of clothing items to support WiS with nothing for FiS (flying in space) players.
CCP had the desire to sell custom ship paint jobs via MTs, which is a feature that many FiS players were interested in. However, once CCP ran into technical issues with implementing ship paint jobs, instead of assigning enough resources to finish a feature that most FiS players would love and would pay MT for, they put ship paint jobs on hold in favor of more clothing items.
Conclusion: NeX isn't for Eve. NeX is for DUST and WoD (and WiS.) NeX isn't for the FiS players. FiS MT items won't happen because a) gold items were objected to by the players, b) Eve is sub based, and c) CCP is focused on implementing WiS and DUST and WoD over FiS.
The Eve players are just being used to alpha test the build out of an MT store and to get feedback on running an MT store.
There's no point in taking the NeX store so seriously until WiS is released, or if CCP suddenly decides to start selling FiS related items. The former might happen in the Winter expansion, and the latter is probably a couple of years away (barring gold ammo.)

Pretty much everything you just said mimics what was said after PLEX was introduced; limited appeal, indestructible (yes, they were for little over 6 months), etc.
How did that 'failure' work out?

Honestly, I won't judge the success or failure of NeX till "Walking in Stations" is complete (or got the multiplayer aspect at least). Right now there's almost no incentitive to buy NeX stuff simply because noone will notice you. You might see a part of the shirt or the monocle, but other items are essentially "invisible". And let's be honest. Such cosmetic stuff won't work without the bragging rights associated with owning it (see the "look i've got a monocle!" threads). __________ Looking for more thoughts? Can it be? I think we just found an intelligent poster.
They're launching a large variety of new systems that will affect EVE, both Incarna and DUST. It will take time to get all of it out, balanced, and working smoothly. I'd rather have some rough patches in a game that will last for twenty or thirty years, than a game that ends because I didn't keep advancing with the times.
We have to see what they do with it.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a total failure. I mean it is filtering out the obnoxious whiners and that alone to me is win.

Yes....but at the expense of those who helped CCP get to where they are today?
There is only one game that has allowed CCP to do that. EvE. Think about what drew you to to this game in the first place...how much awe were you in?
Now?...shock and aweful.

It allows me more customization for my avatar? That's about it. But that's not the main purpose for the NeX store. The Main purpose it a sort of a beta test for games like Dust and WOD. The fact that it might actually get some extra revenue in the process, doesn't hurt either. There's no deeper meaning to it than that.

So there is NO enhancement to the game that you subscribe to??
There is no deeper meaning to me than paying for a game that is now an Alpha/Beta test for something I have no interest in.

Bingo! We've got a winner!
Well of course there will be ship skins as paints too, but that will come later. Other than that, I highly doubt it will get any further than that. At least not in EVE Online.
