So given the choice between a Hookbill or a Caldari assault frig for PVP which would you choose? I'll be solo for the most part, I have a Thrasher for support but he's mission fit and I will be flying in low sec. If you could post you're preference and why along with some fits (I can fit t2, all my missile and engineering skills are at 5) I would be unduly grateful.
Thanks, Holly

Hookbill for sure. Although, I've never tried a hawk so I can't comment on it.
I have however done every variation of harpy that I could think of and I'd take a hookbill over the harpy for almost any situation.

You can go pure ab duel web hookbill, too expensive? Armor tank duel web hawk. Its not as fast but is 1/3 the price and suprises the **** out of people.
Hookbill however is better over all imo

Well it sounds like I definitely want the hookbill, so far I'm definitely gonna run with a lot of tackle and an ab, any suggestions on an effective tank?

This is pretty much what you are looking at in regards to the dual-web Hookbill mentioned by other posters. Variations on this theme include switching out a shield rig for a small ACR to have the grid to fit tech 2 AB, MSE, and with a CPU implant the nano can be replaced with a DC if you like. As this fit relies on range dictation through dual webs to mitigate enemy effectiveness the nano is a nice mod to have IMO.
I haven't flown this yet but I plan to in the near future

Hookbill hands down. The hawk is a fine ship, it offers better resists and can fit a similar role as the hookbill, but the hookbill has that extra web slot which makes all the difference in the world.

Hookbill is a great and very fast solo Frigate. The Hawk is a very solid tank but very hard to fit like all Caldari ships.
I would go Hookbill but here are fits I have used with great success for both ships.

Hawk- The Hawk here is way to expensive but can be T2 fitted with the same mods. http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/51765-PvP-Hawk.html

Agreed, I didn't think it was possible when I engaged a Helios in a dual prop Taranis but it was a big surprise. It was extremely close and he managed to disengage.

While I respect the heck out of the Battle-Helios and the fine pilots that can make it work, I would still take the Hookbill over it, if only because of the better range control vs small blaster boats. Hold that orbit at 7km while you double web and your rockets are still fully effective while blasters are terribly suffering and small ACs are suffering greatly...
Battle Helios has more pinache though :)
