Hi guys, Any ideas on what sort of Amarr ship (or ships)/fits needed to take on a Rook or a Falcon? I came across them a few days ago in low sec and I didn't really know much about them. I tried Google for some background, but there wasn't a lot there. Or are they best to be avoided at all costs?

Edited by: Drykor on 03/08/2011 15:23:14 A drone ship will do, just make sure you released the drones before he aggroes you. Or some sniper beyond his optimal jamming range, with high alpha to kill him/force him off the field. Also, he won't always hit the jams, especially if you fit ECCM.
Some Amarr BS have plenty of drones, otherwise you'll be looking at a Curse or Pilgrim which can cap the falcon out pretty much instantly too IF they get a lock at some point. The issue would then be to get in point range so you can actually kill it in time. --- Drykor - AHARM |

I tend to use damps if I'm looking to counter ECM ships.
I don't think there are any Amarr ships with a bonus to damps.
There are other ways of doing it but basically you either need to damp/jam them before they get the jams on you. ECCM may be of use if you are fitting specifically to counter those ships but it'll leave you a bit gimped if you need to fight non-ECM ships.

Sacrilege or Damnation and FoF missiles. But, if you're looking at a 1v1, you better pack a ton of ECCM or you'll never keep them tackled. If its a fleet, then overwhelming firepower is the only answer (i.e. popping them before they can warp off).

Edited by: Cthulhu F''taghn on 03/08/2011 16:52:25 I use my own falcon alt with a low slot eccm + hg talon implants (low chance of getting jammed) along with a sensor strength gang link on my loki booster alt.
Tbh the only thing to do solo is not engage someone with ewar.

Or lock them faster, damp them and see if they want to play ECM games well within medium autocannon range
Not really a solo option I know but if you're going to counter a Falcon then you'll both have crap DPS so you're relying on stupidity to win. Yes I know there's a lot of it about.
If you fit to counter a dedicated ECM ship solo then neither of you are going to die quickly.

Curse High native sensor strength. Drones. Neutralizers will have the Falcon/Rook capless in 1-2 cycles.

Sentry drones and damps are awesome. A couple of my corpies fly Ishtars, and in one fight a Falcon appeared and started getting jams, and the sentry drones absolutely murdered it.
By the way, props for asking for advice on this rather than just posting a whine thread like everyone else does.
Also confirming neuts work rather well, but are harder to apply than damps and drones.

A well piloted curse will kill a rook/falcon every single time. Just alpha his capacitor and then plink away with your drones. A cap boosted falcon/rook could potentially counter this, but I've yet to encounter one fitted as such. If you're specifically hunting a falcon/rook, drop your TD for an ECCM. This will make you exceedingly difficult to ECM. A bit of insurance in case they lock first or have a cap booster.

Amarr: Neuts (Curse, Pilgrim, Ashimmu)
Minmatar: ECCM and ECM drones, hope your drones get a jam off, kill him with your weaps.
Caldari: FOF missiles, ECCM and ECM drones
Gallente: Drones, ECCM, guns or ECM drones, ECCM and guns. Damps are, frankly, pointless. No matter how low you damp him you can't get in tackle range without him getting a lock on you. Innate lock range on falcon/rook is just too long. Arazu could tackle and damp a falcon/rook from outside their damped range but that's about it.
Thing to remember is falcon/rook are slow. Run up on them, get ECM drones on them and wait til they're jammed while you hammer @ them.
Of course there's always the: Counter a falcon with another falcon.

In my experience, anything that alpha's hard at 60 km's will get a falcon off field pretty quickly.
An abbadon or Apoc (add eccm for profit) will typically make them turn tails and run after their first missed jam. Note, its not foolproof, and a really good falcon pilot that TAMS a lot is a realy PITA to get rid of. In my experience, most falcon pilots are overconfident and die to an eccm drake.

Your objective is not to tackle the Falcon/Rook, it is to prevent it from applying its ECM to your gang.

Amarr ship... Curse is the first thing that comes to mind. It can cap out a Falcon or Rook instantly if it get a lock within range. Drones will then force it off field.
Alpha Abaddon (Hellcat) can make quick work of ECM ships.
In general, drones and ECCM are the counters I have the most trouble with when flying anything other than a Scorpion. Then its the Hellcats with that absurd alpha.

Back when falcons ruled the I had a lot of luck killing them with a dual ECCM fit vaga (>65 LADAR strength, overloaded). Let the falcon get one jam off to make him think you are a normal vaga than overload both (gives you about 2 minutes). In that time you can keep him pointed and kill him. Haven't flown that fit for a long time. Best keep out of scram range if he is a bait falcon, and load emp :)

Ishtar.
Drop sentries in range, set to aggressive and hope you get a lock, if you dont then hopefully your sentries will choose the Falcon to shoot at (Drone AI these days isnt brilliant though) - they should if the Falcon agresses you. Fingers crossed....
